Let's discuss "Interviews with History"

Recommended Posts

Hello Issho,

I really appreciate you comming up with something like this!
I would like to give out a suggestion.

As you post every monday , giving  a ---VERY---- long gap to each interview, i wish the interview to be a lot bigger with more good questions such as their experiences before working in tanki. so roughly the questions should count about 10

I guess you are getting quite a lot of time to go on with interviews. When you get answers from the interview candidates, maybe you could edit them and lengthen them(7 days gap should be enough to edit it). making them looking like really an interview to go through at!

P.S : ignore my bad english

Interviews are ready to be posted, I started organizing and gathering them all during July, so no major changes to the standard format. I will try to give more accurated proofreadings, but so far that will be the only improvement :)

I am sorry but is it just me or do i really get bugged by that bad title...History?!?!?!? Is this a joke? This is interview's with staff members. If you are doing this go interview someone, go to someone's prime minister or obama ok

History can refer to anything. Tanki Online has its own "history", aswell as Tanki Online Staff does.

Completely pointless, why was this topic made?

It was done to be able to keep track of all opinions, feedbacks and criticisms that could be usefull for future references. The main topic was not good for this purpose since in there I will post new interviews every week.

Also, in this topic, players' questions about Tanki Online are welcomed and the best ones will be answered, thing that would not be suitable in the main topic since it would not have been related to it.

I think it was just fine how it was. People could see what everyone thought right under the topic. And at least post a link to this discussion in the main topic thank you!

Hey. Nice idea with the interviews. Couple of minor words of feedback.

________

1.. "Interviews with History" doesn't seem like a great title, to be honest. It's not as if History can be Interviewed. I get your point but it doesn't really work in my opinion. What would be slightly more attractive may be "Interviews: Exploring the Past" or "Interviews with Tanki's Veterans" or even "Looking back on the Old Times - Interviews" (or of course something similar to that, which has a bit more of a ring and interest to it.)

2. I personally think singling this out for Staff Members seems a little bit rich. It would be reaaaallly nice if the players could get interviewed too (of course, old-timers too.) I'm sure it would be slightly more interesting too, for viewers. Make sure you do, of course, get all the people to be interviewed from at least before 2012. I don't know if others find this sometimes but it seems like sometimes the staff only seems to relate to the staff on the Forum. It would be really a nice feeling to get the players involved, because it sometimes does appear that the staff always stay in their own little bubble, relating to the players in a slightly unnatural way on the Forum.

3. I understand that the DIscussion Topic is still under maintenance, but it would be nice if you could at least point a link from here towards the topic for the viewers to read. Not a big deal though.

4. I personally am of the opinion that posting an interview with questions that are not exactly answered in a constructive way is slightly flawed. You said in your reply to Sel's original post below:

Also, replies are little due to lack of time to create long and detalied answers, all the Staff members which took part in this project spent time in answering and preparing many things which will be shown in other episodes aswell, so replies are really not meant to be long, but simple and informative where needed.

Personally, I reckon that if an interview is to be published, and to be interesting, there has to be a level which the interview reaches - otherwise it will be uninteresting. I totally appreciate the effort being put in here, but the key thing to do is to be able to put something in which is interesting for the viewer to read. I unfortunately didn't find Shar0n's interview particularly interesting, even though the answers and questions were asked and answered in a fair manner - I personally reckon this was because the interview was not structured in a great way and some of the less-well-answered questions were still included. It also was slightly unoriginal, but that's a matter of opinion. And so, I suggest, that interviewing should include about 15 questions. Out of these questions, approximately 7-12 will be picked appropriately which have been answered in the best manner, and which will be most interesting and constructive to the audience. That will help make things more interesting, and also ensure that there is a level of variety in each of the interviews.

5. Finally, as a suggestion of questions, what would be great is if the questions are more probing, For example, not just a question like "What is your favourite combination" but something like "Which combinations are your favourite, and why? What sort of gameplay do you normally get involved in, and what do you normally look for when you join a battle?" Also, OF COURSE, asking personal questions are brilliant for people to get an insight into people's lives. Personally, the interview with Shar0n didn't help me learn a bit about how he managed to balance his work in Tanki with his work outside. What does he do for a living? And then it gets interesting.

And I find the title deceptive considering the first interview. Interview with History, whilst none of the questions actually are really delving into History? Doesn't work for me. Asking the memories of the players would be brilliant. What do you remember about before the rebalance? What are their sharpest memories? Any old friends from Tanki who they miss? Any things that really changed that they miss / enjoy now? Do they find the game as interesting as they did before, now they are moderators? And even asking them about their in-game tips would be interesting. Of course, I agree with many others above that the "Goals" Question was slightly "Get Out of Jail Free". I think that it would have been good to ask him more directly about things rather than being vague. When being vague, it's not always easy to delve into things as a person being interviewed.

________

Hopefully, at least a couple of my words might have been understandable and been taken into account. Hope this goes well, and it's great to see you starting this "Interviews" thing to go, sort of, alongside the Interviews in the Newspaper, except weekly. Good work.

There wasn't a need for this topic, as it looks like just because the first post of the topic was critical, and there was some debate about it afterwards, a need was "felt" for a discussion topic/posts to be moved to Off-Topic Discussion. Why Off-Topic Discussion? The main post was in General, and so should the discussion one - why not?

Thanks Issho!!

Edit: Was done, finally :D.

This project is aimed purposedly on the Staff - focused on the oldest and still active Staff members (two years/three years+). For interviews with players, made a similar and great project which can be used as a reference :)

5. Finally, as a suggestion of questions, what would be great is if the questions are more probing, For example, not just a question like "What is your favourite combination" but something like "Which combinations are your favourite, and why? The questions I asked were not so "simple and linear", I changed them while posting them to suit everyone's reply to them, but the original questions were more than those and more detailed.

This is a project which will only last for some weeks, while the Newspaper is.. Forever? :D Anyways, I'll try to make more accurated proofreadings and changes :)

Thanks Issho!!

:) I'd like to hold out my hand to you, since I think we can, so far, find a deal. I explained myself and what I meant with my previous comments, and I also already said that I saw why your remarks were needed.

What I'd just like to ask you is to avoid trying to push so hard on what comes from us. We are doing this project in our little, spare time, and we came up with the best we could to give some infos about us. I'm sorry if this was not so "huge and formal" as it was probably wanted, but this is what I was able to organize and provide, hope you will enjoy the next episodes :)

Well, you actually said you don't see anything good and valuable coming from me, but anyway...

I do not see how I am pushing hard, I simply gave my opinion and that's it.

Seems like this will be interesting. If you need any help, though I doubt you would, I'm always reachable ^_^

Awkward how I've worked along so many of these wonderful dedicated people and yet I can't say that I know them well. Most discussions regard work and that really limits the extent of how much we understand each other I guess?

So...this will be helpful not only for players but also as staff to be able to find more conversation starters hopefully? That'll definitely be cool.

Wow, I thought moderators from any group were supposed to be "nice" to each other eh hogree?! Issho, it's a great topic, nothing to worry about. You can always add detail if you think it's necessary but we all can see that you're working on the main body (getting round to interviewing other players briefly) Good work. :)

he's just giving feedback, nothing wrong with that.

Holy smokes you guys... I just read the three pages of back and forth arguing that is going on here.  has made a valid point in the minor errors that appeared, and it would have been nice to see a bit more on the members being interviewed. Adversely, @Issho_Fujitora is absolutely right here! There was no need at all for these interviews to take place. This was something that he took his own personal time to do. This exceeds what he is required to do and provides the average player with a lucky chance to get some insight as to who these staff members are. Here is a simple analogy for this scenario to make it simple: If a total stranger were to walk up to you and offer you ten bucks, for nothing in trade, would you say, "Yes"? Or would you say, "No, give me 20 dollars!" That simple analogy shows how silly this whole argument is. So as a final remark, I would like to thank Issho for his time and work on this, along with those who were interviewed. :)

Thanks,
