Future Tanki Ideas ( Weather, Timings, etc. )

Recommended Posts

I wrote a similar Idea for this in on the feedback site, although I think they deleted my ideas. Some of them were weather effects others seismic events and even both at once.

These included things like

Rain storms: Heavy fast pace river torrents would form that could wash a players tank off the map

Snow storms: the map would switch to winter scenery and select areas of the map would freeze over creating non passable regions passable, as well as creating black ice, all tanks would have a very weak freezed effect regardless of paint, and visibility would be reduced greatly

Hail storms: a snow storm but with less fallout and more in chuncks, every so often larger chuncks of ice would damage tanks that they crash on, this storm would have a greater chance of occurrence if a snow storm is active.

Lighting storms: Lighting that would strike down randomly in areas of the map, this would be insta kill, also it would be raining heavy on the map, Also if lighting strikes on a grassy area or tree maybe even a small house a fire would start and burn around that area damaging tanks that pass buy, eventually it the fires would burn out or be extinguished by a freeze or rain falling.

Meteor Shower: Areas of the map would be showered in meteors some bigger than other that would insta kill tanks. This shower would leave impact craters from the larger meteors and have the map shake violently as some of the larger meteors impact the ground. This storm would increase the chance of a earthquake happening.

Earthquake: The ground shakes violently tearring down walls, cliffs, bridges, and creating sinkholes. Parts of the map would gain new passages as well as blocking others. This event would increase the chances of a volcanic eruption.

Volcanic Eruption: Starts off as a earthquake but then grow ever more intense. The ground would split and some lava would spill out burning down small buildings and trees. This lava would be impassable and kill tanks within 3 seconds. Also showers of ash and bolders from with the ground shoot out of the ground landing on other parts of the map, further changing it. If you were to be on top or underneath one of these boulders its a insta kill. As for the Ash it would reduce your visibility more than a snow storm.

All of these would be ment to last around 5 minutes, with occurrences increasing the longer a battle goes on for. Also with the rain creating raging torrents, it comes to me that Tanki should add water to maps. If you go into deep water you'll self-destruct and if you stay under wanter too long you'll slowly lose health.

LOL imagine you are waiting for the gold box with low health hoping you will catch it but then hail falls on u and kills u while the gold box dropped and is sitting there on the ground waiting to be taken.  :P

Good idea, but just like fog, it might reduce FPS.

Correction: it WILL reduce FPS.

All of these ideas are nice and would bring something interesting to the game, but I think the more advanced things here would require a lot of programming and development resources, and would be too intensive for most computers to handle. This would especially apply to those ideas that would affect the players as well as being visual effects - and I highly they would be implemented, unless the bennefit from doing so would be super high.

The basic ones, such as rain, are things I think could be added when Tanki moves over to Unity along with the graphics overhaul that would follow. However, this would certainly be an extra graphics feature like fog, and it will reduce FPS.

When coming up with ideas, you should not only consider which ones would sound cool, but also whether it would be viable to implement them. Would it be worth the time, money and effort for the development to implement? Would the players' computers be able to handle it (this is what infamously brought the ol' Tanki 2.0 project crashing to a halt)? The development loves ideas which would bring the maximum advantages with minimal resources needed, after all! This is why I think such an idea would only be an extra visual effect like the fog feature at most, at least for the foreseeable future. Maybe there will be a time when Tanki will be advanced enough to support really complex and time consuming features, but this is not true just yet!

I love where you are going with this, it sounds absolutely fantastic!!!

Actually, with the Unity version of Tanki Online, options to do things such as this will become available. Of course, if it were to happen, it would be far off even after the release of the Unity version, as the developers would most likely still be trying to work out bugs.

Please read what I said carefully. There is always the 'option' to implement such complex ideas that are both visual effects and interact with players, whether with Flash or Unity, but it would not be worth the time, effort and resources it would take to do so. I agree that visual effects would be easier to implement with Unity - hence why we could see features such as a night-mode or rain - but something that physically affects players, such as rain making the ground more slippery, will be time-consuming to program whether in Flash or in Unity.

To reiterate, the development do not decide to implement ideas depending on whether they are 'achievable' or not - rather, they factor in whether it would be worth the time, effort and resources to do so. In the case of the more advanced ideas here which involve player interaction, it wouldn't, at least not for the foreseeable future.

what if there was an option to have weather in a battle u r creating.  for summer there could be rain.  winter has snow.  there will be a notification when the weather start.  it wwouldn't rain the whol battl unless that's what u want.  people can use weather as a strategical time to charge because the weather would limit vision.  there could even be fog.  snipers would know if a battle has weather.  that way they wont get annoyed if there vision worsens. every one who joins a weather battle will know becuz it will say on the battl page next to the map's name. what do you think about this?

Hello Everybody, I am Shibecaisu. I am here to share with you my first idea and suggestion.

It is called 'Noon and Midnight' also known as 'NM'

Noon is always the normal battle, where the map is bright { Noon }

Since there is noon, then why no midnight?

I suggest that the midnight can be like the HALLOWEEN map, where the map is in total darkness.

I wish this helped, Thankyou... :D
