[Issue 27] Kirby's Garage Analysis - Part 1

 Share

Recommended Posts

It has been quite a while since a Garage Analysis has been posted in the newspaper. For those who are new to the concept, it is supposed to simply be me yabbering on about what I've bought so far, and my impressions and ratings on them.

But, I am going to stray from the typical listing and ratings. I won't bore you with that. Instead, I'll bore you with pretty much an account of my entire Tanki career.

For those high-rankers out there, you may not find this particularly useful, but I hope you still find it vaguely entertaining! And, of course, your opinions (agreement or disagreement) are generously welcomed!

As for future purchases, I will keep this post updated!

Although I created kirby2008 a long time ago, I only really got into the game in October 2013, when I saw my friend trolling others by pushing them off the maps. I tried it, and I have to admit it was slightly fun, but then I slowly began to appreciate that Tanki is indeed an awesome game. And so, I began to play regularly.

At first I was extremely offput by the high prices of gear. How was I ever going to earn hundreds of thousands of crystals? So, I was and always have been very conservative with my crystals spending them sparingly and wisely, or so I think. My very first M1 purchase was Mammoth M1, simply because it was the cheapest M1 out there! But, it's immense health really came in useful, especially for DM and TDM, where I could enjoy a significant health advantage over most of my enemies. I definitely don't regret this purchase.

My next purchase was on the 13% Isida sale during Halloween. I upgraded it to M1, unaware that 13% is actually not a stunning deal. But, hey. At least I learned from then on! Isida was a really great weapon, its versatility enabling me to take both aggressive posts as well as supporting the heavy armour in the team. It was a perfect combination with a faster hull like Hornet. But eventually, it did begin to bore me, and it has been collecting dust in my garage since. . ., a long time ago. Maybe in the future I might revive it with an upgrade to M3.

I got really sick of being one-hit by the Railguns and Shafts that loved to shoot at my very fragile Hornet M0. And so, at Warrant Officer 2, I bought Hornet m1 during a 50% sale. I noticed the improvement immediately. No longer was I being shot down as soon as I spawned, and my scores and income increased rapidly.

At the very next rank, I invested in Railgun M1, the very turret that had caused me so much grief before. I ranked up just in time to make the 50% sale and it was amazing, making my efforts well worthwhile. Being able to one-hit those poorly upgraded tanks as well as the better ones with a double power made gameplay extremely fun. The nature of the weapon also improved my shooting and dodging skills which really helped me in the long term. Hornet-Railgun quickly became my favourite combo.

A 50% paint sale came round, and here I thought I'd better invest in a paint. I had quite a few paints available to me, but in the end I chose Alien. I felt like it was a very cost effective paint, offering protections against 3 common turrets. Alien served me well all the way till Lieutenant Colonel.

At Warrant Officer 4, I invested in Thunder on a 50% sale. It was quite nice, offering me a different style of gameplay to Railgun. I could also use it with my Mammoth in DM, which seemed to work very well. I also bought Smoky M1, as I had found it slightly annoying. Turned out that I barely used it.

Christmas came round and so did the New Year's Sale where I invested all of my crystal bounty I had worked hard to earn. I splashed out on my first M2, Freeze M2, as well as Shaft M1. Freeze M2 was insane, although I had to adapt to its fast turning speed. Using this turret honed my skills at battling enemies at short range, and complemented my Hornet M1 perfectly. Shaft on the other hand? I used it about three times and died of boredom.

Once I reached Second Lieutenant, I bought Hornet M2 on the first 50% sale that wheeled round. This was great for my garage, suiting Freeze, Thunder and my Railgun. I think this was one of the best purchases I made. At First Lieutenant, I was desperate to get that purple Railgun, and ranked up just in time to make the dual Shaft-Railgun 50% sale. I began to play in larger and larger maps like Stadium and Kungur, where Railgun really unleashed its full power.

After this purchase, I used Hornet-Railgun M2 exclusively until Lieutenant Colonel. It was a great combination, and during this time I had plenty of time to collect crystals and earn from battle funds. Once I reached Lieutenant Colonel, I invested in the Heavy kit M2, which contained RIco and Mammy at M2, along with Inferno, Urban and Spark. This was just after the rebalance, where Rico had become very powerful. I found Mammy a bit slow for as dynamic a weapon as Rico, so I also bought Viking M2 on Tanki's Birthday Sale.

So, Rico-Viking became my main combination, and what a magnificent combo it was. I found Viking perfect for Rico, and combined with my paints, I felt like I had the best equipment on the field in every game I joined. Inferno offered great short range protection, protection which I don't think is rivalled until the likes of Zeus, and Urban and Spark gave me some versatility against other Rico users or Twins druggers.

Again, I stopped buying items for a while, saving up my crystals until Major General. Here, I bought Emerald during a 50% paint sale as well as Firebird straight to M2 on the 70% one hour sale. I thought Emerald was a must, considering the amount of TDM I played, with Thunder and Twins users common, and Firebird. What else can I say apart from it is absolutely beastly. I wasn't intending on buying it considering I had Freeze at M2 already, but at under 30k crystals, how could I resist? Drugging with Viking was extremely fun, allowing me to dominate many of the battles I joined.

I was a little put off at the Light M3 kit since I had Hornet and Rail already at M2, along with Spark, but the Heavy M3 kit seemed perfect. My Twins were still at M0, my Mammoth only at M2. I bought it as soon as I managed to save 450k, and it has been immense. Drugging is an almighty force in all game modes, even CTF where you would expect Mammoth's poor speed to let it down.

On Tanker's Day, I invested in Smoky m2, and it is absolutely amazing. Yes, it's absolutely amazing. It's extremely fun to play, and extremely powerful, and I now use it more than my Twins M3. Definitely worth the money, and I cannot wait to get Smoky M3 after trying it on the test server.

What do I plan for the future? I hope to get Viking M3 for my Twins and Smoky, and of course the awesome Hornet/Rail to M3. Straight after, it's off to Smoky M3, and then MU time!

Hope you enjoyed my slightly off-norm take on a Garage Analysis. All your thoughts are appreciated!

Yeah I really hate it when people automatically assume I buy when they see me using heavy kit or whatever :p not that theres anything wrong with buying, but I just find it slightly insulting!

Nice Garage Analysis. I like the "story" form in which you wrote it! B)

Very, very familiair: "Shaft on the other hand? I used it about three times and died of boredom."  :D

Being close to Colonel I 'm having a high anticipation towards the Smoky M2 (though I believe a Thunder M3 with MU 's is stronger)

so your own enthusiasm about the little "precious"  ;)  is more than welcome:

"I invested in Smoky m2, and it is absolutely amazing. Yes, it's absolutely amazing. It's extremely fun to play, and extremely powerful, and I now use it more than my Twins M3. Definitely worth the money, and I cannot wait to get Smoky M3 after trying it on the test server."

"I hope to get Viking M3 for my Twins and Smoky": fair enough, but if you happen to have some spare money: try Thunder M3! -_-

Nice Kirby!! If you want some advice from a player who has been longer in the game, read my garage analysis (I'm not saying your's is bad because it's not, it's great. If you just want some helpful advice coming from experience, check it out ;)) It doesn't speak much about sales etc but it really gets to depth from the gameplay point of view. By the way, I have equipped at the moment, Rail Hornet Needle (I'm an XP fan!) :)
