I disagree, why is it significantly better? Viking has more health, it is more stable, looks better (=P), why is Hunter better while they have almost the same characteristics? I can't see why people would prefer speed over health or weight over maneuverability.

 

I hope that you don't misunderstand this as an argument, I am just trying to help and to tell my point of view :)

Look at M3, Hunter and Viking have almost the same life, but the speed is more on Hunter. I agree with GoldRock, Hunter is better for Smoky. That's why they give you this tank at the start... And in my opinion Hunter looks very good at M3, better than Viking.

But if you want, play with Viking, nobody is stopping you. If you like it, use it.

Viking is currently my favourite hull right now in the game. I use it all the time with Shaft, and it works very well with Viking. With Viking's good stability, good heath, and reasonably good speed ( Shaft doesn't need speed any ways ) allows Shaft to do what it does best. And because of this I get good D/L ratio in most games. Highest being 53 / 0, if you don't believe me, I've got a screenshot of the scoreboard saying that I got 53 kills and no deaths.

 

Some have even said they are SCARED of me! Haha :D

The only 9 so far in the series was Railgun-Hornet, so it'd take a seriously good combination to equal that. And, personally, Viking just isn't a good enough hull to reach that level.

I have come to enjoy the Viking Ricochet combination. It is my go to choice in polygon DM. I have found that using the Viking Isida combo is difficult due to lack of speed and does require nitro when used with the Viking. I may have to try the Hunter based upon this article, but I have found that the Hunter's minor advantage in speed does not make up for its lack in armor. Also, the hunter is not as stable when traversing over level changes.  Overall I think it is the choice in micro upgrades and paints that can help compensate for a hulls disadvantages and I have been focusing on the Viking Ricochet combo. I also have found that the Viking Ricochet combo can hold its own when others are drugging in a DM.

Not entirely true. Smoky has a massive cooldown at longer range, making it a small range weapon.

From my view you're right about Viking, I play as defender most of the time when using this combination.

 

Viking is more focused on health as you mentioned in the Thunder paragraph.

Smoky needs a direct hit in order to deal damage, it has high fire rate and knockback; so ideal for open ground.

 

Viking lacks the maneuverability and speed that Hunter has; but from defending position, Viking couldn't be a better choice for me when using Smoky. I don't really need to be agile or fast; not for my kind of gamestyle... and you're in the open ground anyway, hence why I understand you've stated heavy hulls as great choices too... they definitely are.  :P

 

Sure Smoky has a short range so a bit of extra speed is always welcome, playing with Smoky/Wasp is extremely fun.

although I get much better scores on the defending position. I rely on the knockback so a stable (strong) platform is required

Also, you haven't unlocked the M2 Medium Kit yet. There is no way you can have it.

Well it is only 1 MPS, so there is not much difference when it comes to keeping up with the Hornets. :D

 

I often find myself in close combat situations without support and, whether against close range turrets or otherwise, I find that I need the speed, (and the smoky impact) to dodge, outrun, and slip past the fire of enemies. (you should see me outmaneuvering m3 isida/hornets that don't turn their turrets fast enough ^_^ :ph34r:)

I have out maneuvered many turrets and hulls combinations with Viking, I can tell you that it is as fast and maneuverable as Hunter, a slight 1 MPS isn't that much of a difference at M4, but 30 health points can make a huge difference when battling or trying to escape with your life :D

 

Take a look at the hp differences at m3 between Viking and Hunter, 7 hp means absolutely nothing the way I fight, but 1 mps certainly does. :D

I can probably think of more when pressed, but for now this is why I think hunter is the best choice with smoky.

As I said, you can't compare an M3 with another M3, if you look at the M4 you will see that 30 HP can make a huge difference, 1 MPS wont make you dodge an M4 Thunder's shot, you will die if you had 69 HP, but if you had Viking M4 at that moment you would have 99 HP, in that case your 1 MPS wont be so handy :D

 

But look, Gold is the one that wrote his article and his opinion is the key here since he is the article writer, I think we should stop discussing before he comes here xD

Nice i will buy viking m1 so I want to ask a question - Is viking m1 smoky m1 a good combo? I have seen Lordmostafa use it But his Equipment is m2.. I will be using it with Forester.As for now I use smoky Wasp And i find it to be a very good Combination 

P.S i need a defending hull so am buying viking i know i can attack as well When i am playing against higher ranks.So is smoky m1 or firebird m1 With viking a good all-rounder?

Hunter M1 is better than Viking M1, but unlocks three ranks later.

 

Viking M1 is solid: only real drawback is speed, which however gets compensated quite decently

IMO by the fast firing Smoky M1.

This combo is a good allrounder at defense and midfield, it 's decent at supporting attacks but it 's certainly no

flagcaper.

 

Besides that, you got the perfect combo if you want to evolve to the most natural next one: Viking M1/Thunder M1.

 

Forester is still a very good paint at your rank. No need to change, only if you have plenty of crystals

I would advice Corrosion at WO3, otherwise MU your Forester and it will serve you well!

 

In my view don 't put Firebird on anything else slower than a Hunter: so no don 't go for the Viking M1/Firebird M1

Only 7.5 rating for Ricochet and Viking?! No way, it's one of the best combos. I use them and I find it is a great combo, good for all battle modes, very versatile. You can attack and defend with it and it's still fast enough to capture flags.

I'd say its good with everything not so much freez cuz U need speed with it but  is by far my fav hull in the game.
