Map names and identities.

Recommended Posts

I would like to suggest that future Map development incorporate and show a greater similarity of apparent geography and architecture to its name.  Many of our cities have very distinctive geography, character and often posses highly acclaimed street furniture, buildings, statues and so on.  So if a Map was called Liverpool or Glasgow their might be some small resemblance to that city.  Liverpool having its world acclaimed Waterfront with its 3 Graces, Liver Birds and other impressive neoclassical buildings and such.  Other cities might have equally distinctive and identifiable features.  Most cities have unique features.

I accept that developing maps is probably not an easy task and maybe the available software might be lacking.  Maps are usually small but something that gives a flavor of the name would be useful.  Making maps live up to the name might be a better and richer experience.   So, instead of just giving a name to a map of any old grid shape and street plan try to make the map more identifiable.  Is it possible to have curved streets and water features?

hmmm need more of an explanation than just a paragraph, i think

but hey i might be wrong

Basically what I am saying is that is would be a good thing if a map bore the name of a City then their would be some recognisable features and perhaps an inner city road plan that might have some resemblance to the city of that name.

An example Liverpool might have the 3 Graces the Liverbirds, Cunard Buildings and so on.  Moscow might have red Square and the Kremlin and other features.  Many Cities have very identifiable features and Town Center road plans.  It would make for some realism and players might enjoy the experience better.
