A few suggestions about self destructing

Recommended Posts

The current self destruct penalty in my opinion is pretty unfair. It punishes self destructing, yes. But for the player who spent a good amount of time knocking down his enemy's health, he gets NOTHING for the damage he has dealt. A while ago I've been playing War Thunder (it's a MMO air/tank combat game similar to WoT, btw), and I noticed the self destruct mechanism in War Thunder is very fair to both of the players. Instead of focusing on punishing the player who self destructed, in War Thunder the kill is awarded to the player who damaged that self destructed player.

So say if a thunder is badly damaged by a freeze and kills both himself and the freeze, both of them would get a kill. As for cases where the thunder is damaged by multiple tanks, the kill would go to the players who dealt the greatest amount of damage or divided up between the attackers. It's a win-win situation, the system not only deters players from SDing but also rewards players for their efforts made to deal damage.

Also, it would be nice to have the ability to cancel SD once activated. I find it very annoying when I try to be a good Samaritan and help a teammate get back on his tracks and he SDs.

I already told something like that in this forum. I play with thunder and I find the new penalities of SD really unfair!

The self district penalty is very fair.  The only other way would have been to award a far longer time penalty before regeneration could take place, something like 5 minutes or longer.  Players used self destruct to make an advantage for them selves, which is unfair to the opposing team.

Formally self destruct favored the defending team when they are under the most pressure, allowing a fresh fully charged player to continue the defence or the attacking team when they just want to get back to base very quickly especially on large maps.

That may explain why they didn't decide to go with this strategy, being too similar to another tank game. That is the only reason I could think of.

A lot of MMO games uses this kill mechanism, so I don't see anything wrong with borrowing and implementing it in tanki.

The current system focuses too much on punishing the player who self destructs. For the player who spent time and effort reducing that player's health, it's very unfair because he still gets absolutely nothing for that kill he should have gotten. It's quite unfair to the self destructing player as well, because the system does not discriminate between accidental SDs and intentional SDs. Maybe only self destructing by weapons such as thunder and Rico should be penalized, as players do flip and fall off cliffs a lot.

I was going to suggest something like this, but not related to SD.

Good idea.

Oh wait! I don't agree with being able to cancel SD.

Why not? It seems like you have never had the experience of pressing delete at the wrong time and place  -_-

Thunder and rico are my largest complaints about the current system.  You fight a tank, it closes the range and you can either let it kill you helplessly or fire on it and self destruct.  Better for your team to damage it as much as possible and you may take them with you depending on health.  So what happens?  They don't get a kill for their efforts and may get a death if you take them with you.  You lose a kill and gain a death plus a penalty to score.  Nobody benefits.  No other weapon faces that kind of liability.  Self damage predates the penalty system and was not properly taken into account when the system was put in place.  Giving the kill to the most recent damage  would solve this.

The problem is the game cannot track why the self-destruct happened. If it could, it would be easy to fix. However, it just means you have to hone your skills to not blow yourself up. I mount thunder most of the time, but switch to twins in close-quarter maps.

This is a good solution,, i don't like my DL ratio being so low. If I self destruct,, then ill take a loss but you should not take away a win. not fair. The tanker who caused my self destruct should get the win,,

Actually I have new thoughts about SDP.

I consider it totally irrational.

Why should a player be punished for selfdestructing?

Does Isida get panished because it uses opponents' health to restore own health? No.

Does freeze get panished because it slows down AND lowers opponents' health? No.

Does firebird, etc etc.

Why Thunder gets punished for an ability given by TO? Totally irrational.

Restore previous status with no Penalty at all for Thunders.

Restore previous status with no Penalty at all for SD after falling from a cliff upside down.
