Mac computer goes black out

 Share

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Whenever I try to play Tanki on my mac book, the screen goes black, with everything else still running. I could hear the fans on the PC running but I'm unable to do anything else on my laptop. I then restart the PC and try playing the game again, but I still receive this weird black out screen problem repeatedly. I tried changing browsers, such as from Firefox to Safari, but the problem persisted. :(

I'm using Mac OS X Version 10.6.8.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Is the issue specific to Macs and/or the Mac you use in specific? How long have you had this issue? Has this always occurred on the Mac you are using?

Before you try this, make sure all files that you want to keep are backed up onto iCloud, a flash drive, or an external hard drive.

~ Make sure that you have your Mac OS X Snow Leopard Install DVD ~

This guide will give you detailed instructions on how to erase your hard drive and re install Mac OS X v10.6: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3910

What about the graphics card?

I'm not sure about the first part but it has always been occurred to me ever since I started TO. After only half an hour of playing, screen goes black out. After reset, and start playing again, the same problem happened.

I don't know much about macs, but last I heard don't you have to manually enable hardware acceleration for flash?  That could be it.  I do know macs generally have a ton of cooling issues due to the lack of fans of aesthetic reasons, so it could be that as well.  The fact you can hear the fans makes me think it is overheating.  Here are some ideas to try.

  1. Try this in firefox, saw it in another thread and it might help minimize resources.
  2. Run through this guide.  Make sure hardware acceleration is enabled.  Otherwise your computer will be working much harder than it has to to use flash.  Macs already handle flash far less efficiently than windows or linux (despite adobe dropping linux support awhile back)
  3. Try Chrome.  Chrome uses it's own internal flash plugin.  Probably not any more stable but it is different enough to be worth trying.
  4. Get a temperature monitor for OSX.  There are several options, probably a built in one.  This is the first one that turned up on google.  This will help you troubleshoot if that is the problem.
  5. Try standalone flash
  6. Googling 2011 macbooks there are lots of hardware issues that can cause black screens.  Ambient light sensor damage, water damage, heatsink damage.  These are pretty unlikely and I wouldn't consider them until you've ruled everything else out.  Especially since the problem only occurs when playing tanki.
  7. Make sure your ram is good.  Tanki leaks ram like no flash game I have ever seen.  It could be one of your ram sticks is bad, you have less than you used to, and tanki fills all available ram.
  8. This guide might be useful if nothing else works.
