Revision in the number of Active Servers

Bad Update ! You are doing nothing good tanki lately. First the smart cool downs then the chat and the railgun effect and now this  ! All this is stupid, you are not thinking in the right manner. If you think by a players point of view , I will suggest :

Do Not Reduce the amount of servers ! This will just make the game more laggy, when they are more servers people like to go and play in a server which is less populated, and then play with their fellas so that they DONT lag.

It looks as if you are doing partiality with the EN AND DU community as the RU's get more servers and the main "XP" server.(aka server1)

The DU players will hate this even more than us.

If you seriously think for the benefit of Tanki Online you should do :-

1) Make a separate server for XP(yes , yes i know all that blah blah blah you tell us about CS not having mods for XP)

2) Make 2 separate servers for the normal drugs we used to have.

3) Get the old GB design back( not the one after the smart cool down thingy)

4) $$ PLEASE APPOINT MORE MODS $$

5) Make a limit for a server.(other than server 1:P) Most of the time when a server is full people keep on refreshing until they get in. During a double battle fund day (few days ago) I saw server 1 with 4000 people -.-.

P.S. Although yes, this update will be a bit useful as I will have some battles of my rank :D

HOPE YOU AGREE !

I hope to see the best come from this. Also, it sounds like a nice idea to immediately be directed to a somewhat populated server versus being directed to a nearly empty one as the system has been doing.  Looking forward to see the results of this update. :)

Ah, so it will be possible to find a good battle on different servers... It should be a good idea but wouldn't it increase lag?

No, according to our calculations the peak number of players on each server won't get above 2700, so you won't see any difference most likely.

Nice. Making Standalone Flash Player better place to be ^_^

edit: Seriously? After taking our server 1 and renaming it to RU1, and now we're losing another 10 servers? No, this won't make servers more visited, people would only leave english community and go to russian. Take their servers! -_-

First of all, nobody took your server. It is just named RU becuase Russian players get sent there by default sometimes. It is still available to everyone, whether you use English, German or Russian version of Tanki Online.

Secondly, English servers were picked for a reason, they are the least populated compared to RU and DE servers, even at weekends. So, even after this change they will be not as densely populated as RU and DE. Nothing to worry about here.

Nice, but will RU Servers remain same in number? That's partiality!

As I said earlier, it's not. Many (if not the majority) English-speaking tankers play on those servers too. Their population is adequate. Population of EN servers will get to about the same number after the change is implemented.

So,Does this mean that if there are already 2700 players on RU 1

I cant Enter it for my xp?

Of course no, it doesn't mean that. It's just that the new number of servers is calculated to make sure that population of the majority of servers doesn't go above 2700 players. If it starts getting above that, we will be adding more servers. Simple as that.

Does each server in the list correspond to a physical server or a virtual server?

I'm guessing that these are virtual servers and you're running multiple instances on a relatively small number of physical servers.

If your goal is to ensure that each server is populated with an optimum number of players, why not just invoke new server instances as player count increases and rebalance the loads?

Better yet, as a long term solution why not completely do away with the notion of a "server". That's an old outdated concept. The technology already exists for you to aggregate all gameplay into a single pool and distribute the loads across multiple servers.  There's no need to expose any of that messiness to the players. It can all be managed transparently behind the scenes.

As players all we would see is a giant list of maps/games to join. Based on the map/game we select your system connects us to the appropriate servers.  If we select another game, we're rerouted to whichever server is handling the load for that particular game.

If you want to invest in a worthwhile enhancement...work on the one above.

As far as RU vs DE vs EN servers, the reality is that Tanki doesn't prohibit crossover so the decision to pretend that there is a distinction is pointless. Any player of any language can play on any server already.  There are no restrictions (and shouldn't be any). In that context, a single pool of Tanki games intelligently load distributed across physical servers makes even more sense.
