Improve violator reporting system

Recommended Posts

I've been playing Monte Carlo a lot recently, and it's a fantastic map save for one thing - it's extremely vulnerable to mults and sabateurs. I have reported in game, but I think the /vote system is underutilized; certainly I'm unaware of any time it's impacted anyone in a game I'm playing in.

I will also video and report on the forums, but TBH that's a huge pain; not only do I spend my time trying to document the mult, but it also takes quite a while to upload the videos at full resolution (so you can see all the names). Once I've done this the folks get banned for 1 day. Given the significant effort to report and the minimal impact of being reported, it's no wonder that not many people bother.

Some suggestions:

1) make in-game reporting easier; rather than the chat option, make it part of the pull-down when you click on someone's name. You can copy their name but you can't paste it into chat, so if someone's name is "fdaiaasss123_2" you have to type that by hand - during a battle you're still (presumably) trying to win.

2) if someone gets a large number of reports (well over the average from mistakes or bad faith), flag their account and have a mod scroll through games these people are playing. If 20,000 people are playing, and you only check the highest 0.1% of reports, that only 20 people to check on at any one time. Do that once a day and you'll cut down significantly.

3) when someone gets kicked, make sure everyone knows they were kicked, so others know there are consequences.

4) A successful video report should be rewarded; not so much that it encourages fraud, but maybe 500 crystals? This would increase the incentive to do the reporting. You could take it from the violator, too, so no net cost.

5) Increase the penalties for violating. It really ruins the game for others, and a day suspension seems like a slap on the wrist. Fine them crystals and ban for a week for the first offense; penalties rise steeply from there.
