Does anyone else notice this? (Online Dating)

I've been a tanker for Tanki Online for about 4-5 years and I've noticed how frequently the players talk with eachother about dating and random people asking for "boyfriends" and "girlfriends" and announcing they're gender in chat and whatnot. I find it extremely annoying that 50% of the players are using tanki as a dating website, it just really gets on my nerves. To stop this problem, do you think that it would be a good idea to ban the keywords:

 

Boyfriend

Dating

Girlfriend

Kiss

 

I think it would help with the problem (I think its a huge problem) and decrease the amount of players looking for GIRLFRIENDS and BOYFRIENDS on Tanki. (And Even Child Predators) >.>

Any Suggestions or ideas/comments or thoughts? Please put them down.

I totally agree. However, saying the words: Boyfriend, Dating, Girlfriend and Kiss are not swear words or violations of the game rules. There is no explicit language which should be punished. Some people join online games to ask such questions. If you see people doing this, tell them that Tanki is not a dating site. I do see what you mean, especially in the higher servers, many recruits make accounts to find online boyfriends/girlfriends. There isn't enough reason for a ban but I do understand that this needs to be prevented. 

 

"Child predators". We had an ICT lesson (going back a long time) to Yr8!! We saw this video about how "child predators" work and I think it struck a clear message into the whole class and opened our eyes as to how the dangerous the net can be. When you see this, do not get involved. If you think it is necessary, report such a matter to ban the player so they can no longer use the chat. If you are the "prey" inform your parents. I don't think this goes on in Tanki??

 

It would be nice to do something about this as it is totally pointless but some people think it's a bit of fun (the dating thing, not child predator, just to be clear!)

Yeah I know, but it is one of my pet peeves. I don't think you should be trying to date on a action-type game.

Notice how easy it is?? since they are online and can hide behind a screen they dont really care. the thing is thatt lot of people do this for fun. but if adults try and date people online its their fault they suffer in the end. but predators should always be complained against they dont deserve the right to chat if they are goin to use it for such evil purposes.

@Prencess: Why? I'll tell you why. You should take those things to the PRIVATE CHAT. It simply doesn't belong in the Public Chat, and can make people feel uncomfortable.

I'm not doing that myself but I can very well understand that for teenagers, for example, it can be an important part of the reason for being here. As an adult I'm just ignoring it.

 

Child predators are of course a different thing, everybody should do everything possible to prevent them.

Then if your a teenager go do that on an app or site that is especially for that stuff like SKOUT or Omegle. I'm a teenager and I just get extremely irritated when I see that stuff on public chat. @prencess If it IS kids that are asking whose a boy/girl and asking to be gf/bf then they should really ban those words because there are child predators, and if a kid hooks up with a  "girl" on tankionline that "girl" can turn out to be a 40 year old man behind a computer screen. Do you really want that?

I see all kinds of low ranks using the chats for everything but tanki related chat.  I bet a lot of them only come to chat and never play. I've seen the same people at the same ranks for months, yet the're in the chats everyday. What scares me is a lot of them are probably sick old men pretending to be girls,trolling for young boys.

If a website offers user to user interaction (chat lobbies) you will always get conversations around online dating and some flirting and it's not only children who participate in such. From my perspective this is normal human behaviour and although it might not be the right environment for such conversations most of the time they are harmless. If the conversations do border sexually explicit content then moderators should act and warn/ban accordingly.

 

I don't think words such a boyfriend dating girlfriend kiss etc should be censored as these words can be used in so many more ways. eg "My girlfriend wants me to stop playing Tanki" and even if words like such did get censored, the english language has multiple ways of expressing interest/flirting with others. It's human nature at the end of the day.

 

Unfortunately Child Predators are a massive problem on all online games/websites which children/teenagers are the target audience but moderators can only monitor what happens on the servers and what is reported via the chat violation section so it's up to mature users to notice such things happening and to report the offence.

 

I also believe parents have a strong responsibility in ensuring their Children are safe online. The moderators can monitor Tanki but parents have to monitor elsewhere eg skype to ensure their Child is safe. It's a dangerous world out there and parents need to be aware. 

 

If something (which doesn't violate the rules) is irritating you on chat, simply ignore that person by clicking their name and selecting ignore.

A lot of people use names such as Sexy, Hot in their nicknames..

 

It is just kind of stupid, a lot of people use our chat to just get girlfriends and boyfriends..

 

And sometimes its a 14 year old boy/girl who has a 40 year old girl/boy friend..

 

This is not right but I guess you can't banned people who use tanki for this reason. Or you can't banned nicknames such as 'Sexy" or 'Hot' (they are not really bad words)

 

So I guess it will just happen and even if you did block this sort of chat, they would do it some where else....

Maybe some people think they might become marked as desperate if they are on a real dating site. Or maybe they want to make sure that they have something in common (Tanki) with their new friend. I don't know, I'm just guessing. My point is that please try to be a little more tolerant.
