Unexpected ban

Recommended Posts

I'm sure many of you have logged into the forum/game and found yourself banned. And then you wonder how you managed to get that ban. This happens to me a lot. The first time it happened to me, I found out that I got banned for a violation like 3-4 months ago so it was a unexpected ban.

Every time someone has been banned, when they log into the forums, it would say "You have been banned for the following violation [image here]". I'm sure this would prevent the same mistake from repeating. Plus, not EVERYONE reads all the rules.

NOTE to mods (or whoever): I had no idea what to name the topic, so... feel free to change it to a suitable name.

This is a good idea.  It would let players know what they were banned for and allow them to adjust their behavior.  Even a player fully aware of the rules may not be aware of a specific interpretation of those rules and have no idea what actions led to the ban.

That said there are hardly any mods yet a complicated and robust set of rules.  Even if it is only typing a single line explaining each ban this effort adds up.  Time and effort that could be spent investigating more reports.  A majority of bans are probably flagrant violations where the user is fully aware of which actions precipitated the ban so this would take a lot of mod time and effort relative to the benefit.  All things being equal I would rather have this feature than not have it, but not at the expense of better enforcement.

Eureka! There should be a pop-up that shows rules to new-comers.
