Stealing Frags?

 Share

Recommended Posts

Hello there, Tankers!

I really wanted to clear up the faint idea of "stealing frags" I have in my mind.

Does "stealing frags" mean delivering small blows to degenerate the health of opponents and hence, gain experience points?

Which turret-hull combinations are good for stealing frags? Please suggest a few.

I think stealing frags meant the final shot that killed a enemy tank. It doesn't matter how much damage you dealt to it, just the final shot/kill. Hull combo could be anything from Rail/Honet to Viking Thunder.... Anything.

I'm pretty sure that a "frag" is a mix of two Russian words "vrag" (enemy) and "flag", meaning that the common saying "to get frags" means to get experience point by means of capturing flags or killing enemy tanks. Either that, or it's just a slang term for an enemy or player that has very low health points.

Hence, "stealing frags" would mean dealing the final damage to a player when another player did most of the initial damage, so he did the work, but you got the kill and 10 points (doesn't apply to TDM matches). You "stole" the frag because with one or two shots you got all the bonus for destroying a tank, while the other guy did most damage and got nothing.]

Answering your question - the best gun for stealing frags is thunder, because you can instantly deal a rather large amount of damage and the shots are quite frequent. That way you can predict when a tank is low in health (e.g. after a rail shot them or they were beaten by freeze/isida/rico/firebird/twins for a few seconds) and shoot them do kill the tank and get all the credit with a single shot.

The worst gun is raigun, due to its warm-up before the shot and the fact that it rarely one-shots tanks. Often you deal 90% of damage with one shot and some other guy sees that you shot a tank and finishes them off, stealing your kill, because they know that the tank you shot will most likely be on very low health and east to kill. The warm-up is annoying because often the tank you are aiming at gets killed while your shot is warming up and you end up losing all that potential damage and the frag.

In the beginning, with Quake 1, "to frag an enemy" meant to blow him into pieces :)

I suppose it comes from military terminology, as "fragmentation".

Now "frag" means just an enemy kill.

Or it could mean that the enemy is already in pieces and only needs one little hit to die?

Thanks, that really helped me out.

I have experienced the same with Railgun, I was topping a battle with Hornet-Ricochet, but I got bored so I switched to Railgun-Hunter. And BAM! I ended the battle in the last 3 of my team. :p

Stealing fragments is annoying when you storm the enemy defense, get 1-2 kills, then go for the third but die, and some other attacker gets the points that you deserved. :(
