Best way to help capture the flag!

This post is in part sarcasm. I see it all to often where as soon as the enemy grabs the flag everyone scrambles to him. That is the best way to let him get away.

The defense spaz's their way to defeat. From what I can tell whether it's thunder, rail, shaft, ricochet etc all turrets  can range the flag barer and do not have to be touching him.

Do yourself and your team a favor and get him in site  stop and shoot. Let the fast isilda's or fire turrets chase. I can't tell you how many times i was pushed out of the way by a shaft or rail while I ready to fire so they could chase.

Not only does this let him get away it creates havoc and opens up a stream of flag captures due to lack of defense who has left to chase.

For those of you who play hockey look at it in these terms, don't chase the puck and get yourself out of position, and tired :-).

Anyhow, hope you take this as good advice and pass it on in your game.

Erm...so, "Best way to help defend the flag" then?

I would suggest NOT leaving the base when the flag is gone. One of the best strategies is to have one player grab the flag, carry it out of the enemy base, forcing all of the enemy team to go after him. That player then dies and the enemy flag gets returned to the enemy base...where three more players are waiting to take the flag. They grab it and simply walk out of the base because all the defenders went to chase the first guy and are now somewhere on the battlefield... If the first guy with the flag captures your flag, then there is a high chance that you will lose 2 in a row because, again, your base was empty.

The point is - don't ever leave your base empty and defenceless, because often it results in the flag being effortlessly taken.

Correct, defenders stay put and range and hopefully you can take out and have your offense in the area to return. Worse scenario they get one and you are back in position to defend an onslaught.

One thing I always do in the Serpuhov map, while playing on the red side is that I wait for the enemy caper to run all through the left or right sides of the map and I shoot at him with my Railgun or Shaft just when he comes in my line of vision. In that way, it adds to the enemy's frustration, and allows attackers in enemy area to return the flag; since Serpuhov map is big and tanks are mainly concentrated in the north and south areas.

In the Rio map, I usually chase the enemy caper through the lanes or perhaps a parallel route and shoot him in his path. I also use my Shaft in a diagonal direction towards flags from the corners of the field to stop potential capers to flag-takers.

In Iran map, my tactics follow various tracks while capturing the flag. I usually capture the flag multiple times while using Ricochet-Hornet in this map. One of my tactics is to go over the buildings using the staircases (something that is too hard to do without Wasp or Hornet) and wait for an attacker from my team to take the flag. Once he is chased, killed and the flag is returned by the enemy, I quickly go down the building and run away with the flag through the lanes (with my turret facing backward to avoid being killed by incoming defensive Freeze, Firebird or Isida (this is similar to what Mafioza said).

I have also tried the combination of Freeze-Viking or Isida-Viking in defense on large maps. It works for 7/10 of the times and is really good to suppress quick onslaughts by enemy attackers. ;)

Another good strategy on a map with many tall buildings on the bases (e.g. Serpuhov) is to grab the flag, dive behind a building and then stop. The defenders will rush to the other side of the building expecting you to come out of there into their ambush, but you can just turn around and easily drive out the other side, where they aren't looking  :P. Works best with a fast tank.
