how do i switch modes when i am using the shaft guns?

Do you mean sniping mode? If yes. you need to press and hold the spacebar. But, the gun needs to be fully charged for that.

The Shaft turret has two methods of shooting.

1. Arcade Mode: You simply tap the space bar once and the Shaft will fire a single charge, though it does approximately 1/4 the damage a shot using the sniping mode would.
2. Sniping Mode: By holding down the space bar, your screen begins to zoom in and cross hairs will appear. The less of the yellow bar you see, the more damage you will inflict of the opponent you hit. To control where you are aiming, use the arrow keys, which will now allow you to turn/angle your turret left, right, up, and down.

Additionally, you may be able to shoot even whilst the Shaft is recharging from sniping mode.
