Decent idea! I like the idea of it because, even though what MM2 said, you still 'friend' someone to invite them to a battle, and stuff. PM in game is an idea I've been pushing for a long time, so definite YES!

But what about a best friends system where you can send PM to them and when your friends comes online it will say Nickname is online or offline..

1. That messages should be monitored to avoid violations of Rules

2. You have PM at Forum. Every member of Tanki can use it if she/he is not banned.

    So, what is the point having private messages in a Game and also in Forum?

Well, I used to play a game that included things called 'Whispers' which were like in game Private Messages, I reckon that this is ESSENTIAL for Tanki to have because it is hard to have a conversation with someone in the whole server chat, it's difficult because sometimes, many people talk at a time and sometimes you can't see the messages that you sent with your friends. The other problem is that if you are having a conversation with MULTIPLE people, it is almost impossible to keep up with the conversation and understand what you're talking with. Another things is that, if you go away for a while, you might miss messages that people were trying to tell you. I think that Tanki should make individual tabs, for each conversation with different players, it means that it is very easy to maintain many conversations and talk to multiple people. Including the group/server chat. If you are worried about people sharing accounts, you should make sure that if they send a message with their password, you censor it and if anyone tries to harass someone in these PM's, the player should be able to block that person's messages. Please take time to read this Idea of mine, as it took me a long time to type and if you would like to see what I mean, in terms of the whole Tabs to talk to other people, here's a picture of what I think it should look like:

 

Here, it has a tab for a message with someone, a server chat and anothe chat. Hope some Tanki Mods see this and like my idea! :)

Again this kind of idea....I stoped counting at 3
