     A Sniper's Spots

                           --------- Silence ---------

Buy a tent, rent a forest, make a fire, and don't get eaten by a bear. The end.

Snipers. Campers. We all know who they are, either because we are one or because they've killed us a few thousand times, always hiding (or not), always pawning (or not), always annoying (or not). There's almost always a camper in a battle. Railgun or Shaft, Light or Heavy, they're always there. Watching you. Anyone who has never been shot by a Shaft when trying to capture a flag, raise your hand. No one? Hmm. I thought so. But what you have to know, is that a sniper without a sniping spot is a dead tank. That's why all the maps except for a select few have at least one camping spot. So, you want to know where campers usually are? Or are you a sniper yourself? Whichever applies to you, this guide is here for it! In this article I'll cover every single camping spot in a map. Which map, you may ask? Shhhh. Be quiet while I whisper it to you. It's Silence.

For each spot I'll give a  /10 rating in each one of these following aspects:

Protection: How protected you will be from enemy fire.

EoA (Ease of Access): How easy and quick it is to reach this camping spot.

Firing Radius: How far and how much territory you can see and sight from the spot. For example, if you're facing a wall, it'll be 0/10

Camouflage: How concealed you will be from your enemies at this spot (Assuming you equip the matching paint).

Overall rating: The average of all the above ratings

So, without further delay, let's begin!

Red Team Spots

Red team has only  two spots that are good for Shaft, since most of the locations are exposed and require the peek-a-boo tactics of Railgun. Although something to not overlook is the fact that red team has a tower that was intentionally made for sniping.

Spot no.1

     2rnhr13.png            103j2o7.png

Hum. A location purposely made for camping. It's quite safe from any close-rangers, as all you have to do is put a mine on the single slope that leads to this platform, and you'll be good. The tower on the side provides cover and it allows peek-a-boo tactics, so it's rather well suited for Railgun. This spot also gives you good visibility on the two main paths of the map. The only problem is that it's so good, it's usually occupied by someone else.

Protection: 8/10

EoA: 8.5/10

Firing Radius: 8/10

Camouflage: 6/10

Overall: 7.6/10

Spot no.2

jzzl7a.png               20aytys.png

A sniping spot at the end of the map. It'll be reasonably hard for any Firebirds to burn you, since you're at the back of your base, with lots tastier chicken for the Firebird to cook, unless you're playing a duel, of course, but in that case you shouldn't even be camping. There are two access paths which can easily be blocked by mines. The only downside is since you are utterly exposed, any enemy long-ranged guns facilely target you, so here it's better to have lots of health. Hence, heavy hulls are fitting.

Protection: 8.5/10

EoA: 9/10

Firing Radius: 7/10

Camouflage: 5/10

Overall: 7.3/10

Spot no.3

14np6qs.png               dqkcck.png

Similar to spot no.2, but with less height. There are crates on the right preventing you from targeting the slope on the right of the map. As consequence, you are only able to target enemies coming down the ramp in front of you. The advantage is that it is very well protected. Hide behind the ruins, and use a mine to block off close-rangers.

Protection: 9.5/10

EoA: 8/10

Firing Radius: 6/10

Camouflage: 8/10

Overall: 7.8/10

Spot no.4

2ajnvcj.png                   dftuv6.png

Very, very, very exposed location. Never use a Wasp/Railgun here, you'll be dead in seconds. Most people choose this place because it has a good view on all the paths of the map. From here a sniper is able to target the ramp on the left of the map, the slope on the right, the route in the middle and any players that jump off the ledge of the blue base. Thus, you would probably change targets frequently, something Railgun is better suited for than Shaft. In addition, as I said, the place is very exposed, so a heavy hull is better than a light one.

Protection: 4/10

EoA: 8/10

Firing Radius: 9/10

Camouflage: 6/10

Overall: 6.7/10

Spot no.5

ztabs1.png                 znras7.png

Not really a camping "spot", but who cares? A Shaft/Mammoth campin'  here can effortlessly nullify any enemy threats directed to him. Believe me, I have been in multiple Silence battles where there was a Shaft sitting at this place with an Isida hiding behind the wall healing him. There was absolutely no one using the path anymore. In fact, that's also the detriment of this point. Often enemies will no longer use this passage, and you'll be left waiting for hours with no targets to shoot.

Protection: 7/10

EoA: 6/10

Firing Radius: 7.5/10

Camouflage: 4/10

Overall: 6.1/10

Blue Team Spots

Being in the highest point of the map, it's normal for Blue to have more sniping spots than Red. It has easy access to all

paths of the map, and it can conveniently sight and engage any tanks trying to capture the flag.

Spot no.1

sotjyd.png                 118dr3r.png

One of the most dangerous positions in Silence. Anyone in any part of the Red base can shoot you. On the other hand, the opposite is also true. Here you can practically target anyone who's in the Red base. Obviously a Mammoth would be better than a Hornet. A downside to consider is the time and risk of getting here. With a Mammoth, it takes quite a while  compared to the other sniping spot to reach this particular location.

Protection: 4/10

EoA: 7/10

Firing Radius: 9/10

Camouflage: 4.5/10

Overall: 6.1/10

Spot no.2

110cay8.png               xnx7wy.png

It pretty much the same place as sniping spot no.5 of red Team. It has about the same visibility and range as the above sniping spot, although it's safer since only one side of your hull is exposed. Except for the fact that, seeing that you're literally blocking one of the two main paths of Silence, you should expect company.

Protection: 6.5/10

EoA: 6/10

Firing Radius: 8/10

Camouflage: 5/10

Overall: 6.3/10

Spot no.3

15555x3.png                207ny2v.png

A safer place but with fewer targets to shoot. Also, you are preventing your team-mates from passing through. It's one of the safest spots, yes, ( see spot below ), but the trade-off is that you're only able to target a small portion of the enemy base. Both Rail/Shaft and Heavy/Light are appropriate here.

Protection: 9.5/10

EoA:  8/10

Firing Radius: 7/10

Camouflage: 8.5/10

Overall: 8.2/10

Spot no.4

261ni3o.png                   s0zl7m.png

Yeah, yeah, I know, it's ridiculous. Or is it? If in a match where both teams are even and both pathways are well defended, being here is completely useless. However, imagine you join a battle, and you realize that either the other team is much stronger or the ramp to the right is not properly defended. It might not be a bad idea to camp here. It's the safest sniping spot in Silence, and it's extremely easy to pick off anyone taking your flag. Most enemies will not even expect a sniper to be here ( unless they read this guide, obviously).

Protection: 9.5/10

EoA: 8.5/10

Firing Radius: 4/10

Camouflage: 9/10

Overall: 7.7/10

Spot no.5

34iq0w9.png                205qv5c.png

Rail/Light is pertinent, as you will most likely be using a kind of peek-a-boo tactic: Back off until you're blocked from enemy sight, wait until Rail recharges, come out, aim, fire, and back-off again. The only problem is that you have to go all the way back to your flag to be out of sight of any snipers that are camping at spot no.2 and 3 of Red team.

Protection: 7/10

EoA: 8/10

Firing Radius:8/10

Camouflage: 6.5/10

Overall: 7.3/10

Spot no.6

9gbyg2.png                 2i70huo.png

The opposite of sniping spot no.5 of Red Team. It's better to use a heavy hull, since there's no cover to hide behind, so peek-a-boo strategies are impossible. In addition, your firing radius is quite small, and it takes around 3 to 4 seconds for an enemy to hide behind one of the two buildings once they realize you're there, depending on what hull they are using. I highly recommend you camp at the spot no.7 of Blue team instead. But, you may ask, if spot no.7 is better, why would anyone want to use this one? Well, it's simply because some people are too lazy to drive all the way to spot 7.

Protection: 6.5/10

EoA: 9/10

Firing Radius: 7.5/10

Camouflage: 7/10

Overall: 7.5/10

Spot no.7

4j0tpj.png                  fkrvrl.png

Not much to say here. Same advantages and disadvantages as spot 6, but with less vulnerability since you can hide behind the pipes. Can be irritating for a Mammoth to drive all the way up here, only to get shot before it can do anything. For some players it's just not worth it.

Protection: 9/10

EoA: 7/10

Firing Radius: 7.5/10

Camouflage: 8.5/10

Overall: 8/10

Spot no.8

rkvdz9.png               2ibzwnt.png

A good place to camp. The altitude gives good visibility on most of the map, and also hinders enemy fire. The spot is rather narrow though, and it happened to me that, when I was using Wasp/Shaft to camp here, some tankers would push me off the ledge to jump off. Sometimes it's your own team that's the problem. Of course they have a point. It's a handy jump point for attackers headed for the opponent's flag.

Protection: 8/10

EoA: 9/10

Firing Radius: 8.5/10

Camouflage: 7/10

Overall: 8.1/10

So there you have it. All the decent sniping spots of Silence. Now, because I now you love ratings so much, here's more of them!

                                                                                          RED                                                    BLUE

Overall Protection:                                                            7.4/10                                                   7.5/10                                         ( Cuz you wanna know how much

new computers you'll have to buy after

you smashed the last one to pieces)

Overall EoA:                                                                     7.9/10                                                    7.8/10                                            ( Cuz you wanna know the number

of times you could flip over)

Overall Firing Radius:                                                       7.5/10                                                    7.4/10

( Cuz you'd want to know the exact amount of

destruction you can cause)

Overall Camouflage                                                           5.8/10                                                     7/10

( Cuz you wanna know how easy it could be to

kill your friend and bathe in your glee)

Overall Overalls                                                         7.1/10                                                   7.4/10                                                 (Cuz it's fun)

As you can see, the sniping spots from red and those from blue are mostly balanced equally with no distinct advantage to either side. Unfortunately, I'm out fo things to say I have to go on a trip to Mars, so this is the end of the article. Thanks for reading; hope you enjoyed. If you have any suggestions about what map I should cover next, post them below.

I love this article. Though as a shaft user myself, I have discovered a rather unique sniping spot for the blue team. It is similar to spot no.8 for the blue team, but it is a little to the right on the cliff. What I do is take my viking and carefully maneuver it onto the cliff leading to the red base. I position my viking on the outside of the wall on the right side and snipe from there.

I find that this is an incredibly useful spot because you have a 180 degree field of fire. The downside is, you are totally exposed, and if you don't move correctly, you fall into the waiting barrels of the red team attackers.

With a heavier hull such as viking, you can cause massive damage to the red team. If you come under fire, use a few supplies and keep sniping.

Despite its vulnerability, this spot has allowed me to achieve a score of 99 and 3.

Looking forward to seeing this on another map

Tell me which map you would like to see it on, and it just might be it! :)

shaft users used to always camp behind the ramp next to the house and the tunnel on the blue side that went up onto that balcony region. It was always used in Silence 2. But I guess people stopped using the spot after the new tunnel system and map changes.

I do not agree with this list at all.

I appreciate the time taken to create a list for others, but most of these are horrible sniper spots for anyone who likes to camp-snipe.

I've played the role of sniper on silence many many times. The absolute most effective red team sniper position is the lower left corner of the map, behind the shipping container.  Some tips:

1. If you're using mammy as I often do, stay as close as possible to the back side of the container with your hull positioned parallel left to right. Be aware that taller hulls such as a Dictator/Shaft combo can still snipe you from the left rear ramp, center ledge and right rear wall. Your hull will be too big to hide from the taller tanks due to their higher line of sight. They can clip the edge of your hull easily.

2. Use a smaller hull (I sometimes use hornet) and you'll be hidden from all snipers up in blue territory. Obviously pay attention to the angles....if you position even a small hull near the right or left edges of the container you'll be an easy target for a decent sniper....especially a shaft.

3. Either way you'll need to practice coming out from cover to take the shot for most sniping.  You have a clear view of the left ramp, center ledge and field, right-center short wall mid field, and rear left wall.  Additionally, you can snipe anyone coming in from the middle alley or far right front corner. It's a great location from which to snipe opponents who think they've safely grabbed the flag (one of my favorite things to do on this map).

4. I like to keep the display angle about 30-45 degrees up from horizontal to give me a clear view of the back field as well as near field, especially tankers who think they're clever hiding on the other side of the container.

5. Speaking of tankers on the other side of the container.  Place one or more mines between the edge of the cliff and the left side of the container to prevent those heroes (you know who you are) from creeping around behind you.

6. You can place mines directly to the right of the container as well and even on the ramp or platform behind you.  But your biggest concern will be mid and long range opponents who come from the far right front corner opposite your position.  Unless you have the support of an experienced team (good luck with that these days) then they'll inevitably not watch the right front corner. Which means you need to keep an eye out for attackers who will attempt to fire and cover from behind the far right front building. I like to make sure I continuously sweep the turret from the upper left rear ramp to the right front corner, and back again looking for anyone that breached red team territory.

7. I enjoy using this position to take out tanks that snipe from almost all of the OP's suggested locations. ;-)

With great team support to allow you to focus more on sniping and less on having to deal with attacks from behind, this is the absolutely best sniping position on the map. Even with a crappy team, you can do quite well from this location.  You'll just use more supplies.

The OP's suggestion for location #7 would be my second choice..and that is a blue team location. I've had success there as well.

Good luck tankers!

I am a sniper and, thanks to you, my sniping career is ruined :3 lol kidding

it is pretty good, although as a Sniper I tend to discover my own sniping points (some of which aren't even mentioned here)

On Silence I prefer sniping on the RED side. My two favorite points (actually rather a range as I use a XP(HR) combo moving) are:

  1. The whole bridge at the back from which only one point was mentioned here (Spot 2). From the other end you can easily shoot the sniping Blue at the blue spot 8. and you can shoot the tanks approaching the blue spot 2.
From the middle you have a narrow gap to reach the blues spot 1 and 3 or even above.
  2. The other favorite point is actually the one is also rather a range than a point include the blue point 1, 3, almost to the blue 2.

By staying moving you can protect yourself better.
