What determines who gets a kill in deathmatch?

Question:

There are two Freezes attacking a mammoth at the same time. The mammoth is killed by Freeze #1.

The two Freezes were shooting at the same time. So why did Freeze #1 get the kill, but Freeze #2 didn't? The killer isn't picked randomly, is it?

Simple, but quite important. Any answers?

Damage from freeze is dealt in chunks (something like 20 per 0.5 seconds), so both freezes aren't decreasing the tank's health gradually, but in bits of 20 health, as if it were two ricochets shooting the tank at a rate of two shots per seconds, each shot dealing 20 hp damage. After that it's easy: whoever shoots the final 20 hp of the tank's health will decrease its health below zero and get the kill.
