  1. 1. Map environment options

    • Yes, we need more options to spice up the battles.

    • My computer will not be able to handle the extra load on the GPU with the addition of weather.

  2. 2. Will this chnage up the gameplay?

    • Yes, it will change the way the game is played, depending on what is different.

I am sure we are all tired of finding the same maps, on every server. But what if we add options like gravity, time of day, and weather when creating battles? Sure, it will be hard to with the current game engine, but when we make the switch over to Unity it will become a lot easier.

Now, for the gameplay portion of this suggestion.

The gravity option will be used to help with single player Parkour or make the battle difficult, I don't think it will be needed as the developers could save it for special events and or special maps.

Lets say you are playing at Iran, a CTF match. The red team takes your flag, and heads off to the side of the map to escape to their flag. With the way it is now, that player would usually get taken out, or covered by a Shaft or Railgun, but lets say it's a night battle (11 PM?) and there is a tiny bit of fog/low cloud cover. That means the Shaft or Railgun will not be able to see where the player with the flag is. This will not only make it harder to cover or defend your base, it will also impact what hulls/turrets the players use. If it is a low visibility night battle, more players will prefer the ambush weapons such as Freeze and Firebird, maybe even Twins. This would mean weapons that would usually be at a disadvantage at one map, would become the preferred weapon of choice, and vice versa. Hulls like the big and slow Mammoth will become useful at large open maps when the visibility is low, and won't be taken out as fast in the open field because most won't see it coming, same goes the other way around too.

Even in Clan Wars this will change the current use of hulls (hopefully), which is now 85% Rail + Hornet. I am sure this will add variety to what guns/hulls are used. As it gets harder to see at long range, long range weapons will not become as useful, and weapons that inflict more damage faster at their optimal range will become of liking.

But there is a graphics option for fog, isn't there?

Yes, but adding fog in the options seems to decrease the game's performance, so most players keep it off. So it can be removed, and I don't see anyone who will miss the feature.

Adding fog in battles will decrease your game's performance, won't it?

Not unless it reduces your rendering range. In the current game, you can see straight across the map, but with dense fog you will only see as far as the fog lets you. The current graphics option for fog only adds it as eye candy, you can still see the other end of the map, but there is a nice misty look to it.

But we have reached the limit(?) to the current game engine, how will this be done?

Like I said, we are moving over to Unity "soon", so we will have more options and better optimization for the game, and it's players.

tl;dr Adding battle environment options will spice up the gameplay, and make Clan Wars more interesting to watch.

Now, as I have typed out what I have to say right now (I could add more) I would like to see what the community thinks about this suggestion of mine. If you have any questions about what I have written down I would like to answer you. If I said something wrong, you can tell me.

Fog:

  • Turrets that could make a cut in the fog.
    • Firebird: It's flame should provide light.
    • Ricochet/Twins: It's plasma projectiles should glow.
  • Players will ask for fog lights, so you better add that.

The new Railgun animation glows, same with the new Isida animation.

FIrebird provides light already (fire it up in the dark tunnels on some maps with dynamic lighting on)

I could imaging Fog Lights, but with no actual purpose other than to look good (you can see the blue ones on M3 tanks).

Anything with the new animations will glow (other than Thunder/Smoky, they don't have any tracer, but they can light up a bit from the muzzle flash and impact on target).

All could come as graphical options.
