Collecting crystal boxes has been a part of Tanki Online from its earliest stages. However, it didn’t affect gameplay that much – boxes contained a modest number of crystals and collecting them wasn’t worth the time and effort. Plus, they would disappear over time. When developing the new drop box logics, we modeled crystal drops after supply boxes, without assuming that it would escalate the situation. The open testing didn’t unravel this problem either, as each account there had more than enough crystals so there was no reason to collect crystal drops. On release day, we thought that the complaints of tankers were caused due to doubled battle funds, which result in a larger number of crystals in drops.

 

However, we’ve recently changed our attitude towards feedback. We’ve started assessing and analyzing constructive feedback in the forum, counting positive and negative replies, and monitoring battle chats. This has helped us identify where the real problem lies. And we thank you for that!

 

That is why, as of today we’ve removed crystal boxes from the game as an experiment. Crystals that would have dropped in boxes, will instead be added to the battle fund as many of you suggested. Gold boxes are dropped right after the notification, so as not to distract players from teamplay, and give everybody a shot at catching the gold. The experiment will be on until next week. We will then specify our next steps.

This thing is awesome. i played a couple of matches, now i see, patriotism in gameplay. :tank:

This is good that crystal boxes are added to battle fund, but dropping 10-crystal-box in battle is recommended.

BTW good move by TankiOnline.

Firstly, thank you for the fast reaction to the recent update.

In my opinion, the 1-100 crystal boxes ruined the game. This is because on all of my favourite maps there would be a high ranking mammoth or titan with smokey or twins sat on each crystal drop zone (or worse still 2 or 3 fighting over each area), drugging their rear end off, taking little or no part in the game other than harvesting crystals. This had a severely detrimental effect on each of the three team games (CTF, CP, TDM). The gold boxes worked well though in my opinion - all had a chance to scout and plot strategy.

The new "add to battle fund" version is better - the team games don't suffer at all but the new gold drops give little or no chance to slower hulls who are far away.

For me, the most balanced system was the one in use before predictable drops - high ranking players didn't lose a kill for 10 crystals while lower ranking players could still build a tank in reasonable time.

I dont like this experiment. Bring crystal boxes back. Crystal boxes are like half of the fun in this game and gold boxes too.

Why? i Don't think its a good update though... Cause if crystal boxes are added to the funds, the losing team wouldn't be able to get crystals/enough crystals. For this update, i object.

the 10 crystal drops were a distraction but 100 crystal drops were so much that it caused the players to deviate from the gameplay to collect these mini golds.

it would be much better if 20-30 value  crystal box  drop in matches with big ranks where 2-3 10 crystal box dropped in same place. It would keep the crystal diggers at a bay whereas wont be much of a lure where the whole team deviates from the game and starts picking crystals.

the crystal drops should have a minimum value of 10 and a maximum value of 20-30 to give more focus on the game play.

Nothing except the kick system would keep the players who aren't interested to play at bay because some players make those arrangement themselves and send their friends to the other side to weaken the other side. These people just equip the wrong weapon and paint and play so disabling the crystal boxes would make the problem worse as people will be hell bent on winning because this will be the only way to get battle fund.

On the other hand if a player keeps losing he wont even manage a pair of m3 by generalissimo if he loses all matches (i guess thats the basic principle behind the  game economics).

There is no point denying the fact that this game is much more fun due to non buyers and low ranks (aka noobs)  I am sure  high rank people enjoy 1 hitting them but they flood everywhere with complaints against them when these people get in their side.

Crystal drops is what kept these people playing now with crystal drop stopped this game is gonna turn into a high ranked drug war with each side armed to the teeth.

My guess is the turning off crystal drops altogether is going to make the game much less fun.

I DISLIKE THIS UPDATE ABOUT BATTLE FUNDS!! Bring back how it was...Yes, its useful for those who are in the tops during the match.. but speaking about other players.. they no loger have the opportunity to get enough crystals for their upgrades.. its some kind of unfair for other you know.. Thank you Tankionline. Team games will not be ruined now by team members hunting crystals rather than flags and defending. I THINK THIS IS TERRIFIC and has saved my interest in the game. Furthermore, I prefer the spontaneous drop of the gold box. Gives everyone a chance. I am delighted you were able to experiment with other ideas rather than decide categorically on the new crystal drop concept. Thank you for being open to true gamers needs.
