Join the experiment with crystal drops

Here's my solution:

1. Bring back random supply drops. I have witnessed more stalemates on CTF rounds with no time limits now and I think it is due to this (say, a 25 or 30 cap with no time limit). Before this changed two or more players had the chance to get drops if two fell next to each other. Now, players are pushing team members out of the way to grab the one stationary drop.

2. Put the crystal drops into the battle fund but....

3. Change the percentage of winnings to each team. Even in a 0 flag capture the players should still get a minimum of 50 crystals each since I am sure the average player could have picked this up in the old system. The highest score on the losing team should always get about half of the same score on the winning team. This way it encourages players to keep playing even when they team sucks. It's awful to have a score of 1,000 on a losing team and get 100 as a reward when the same score on the winning team might get 1,000 or more.

4. Go back to the old gold box system - seeing "A gold box has dropped" as it is floating a few feet above the ground is senseless.

Whatever they do the predictable crystal drops of high value should not be reinstated.

I think your solution is good, but if I may just add a couple of comments.

The old drop system was in fact quite similar, supplies did drop in the same places. All the new predictable drops does is make it clearer for players to exploit, which I think is a good thing. Also, the supply boxes do not vanish, which I think is also good.

I agree immediate drops disadvantages some, for example if you're in the process of an equipment change, or just got killed. Then again, too long and the game is disrupted. I think a shortish time of maybe 10-20 seconds instead of the original 30-90 seconds is nicer.

I do think the drops staying is better.

But I think a wider distribution prevents team players from fighting each other - a single drop in some exact location encourages intra-team fighting - is that what we really want to encourage?

Players competing against a team player for a drop didn't really happen with the old random drops - as I mentioned more players in a map meant more drops - it wasn't uncommon to see 2 double armor boxes drop side by side.  It was a way to balance against the people who pay to win by purchasing supplies. This way two players on a team got an upgrade instead of only one as it is now.

What I mean is that when I play Tanki, I keep my social life up to date as well. I message friends and others tankers on FB etc. I don't do this as a mult, only once I have died, I take 10 seconds out to send messages then return to the game. But when gold boxes drop, I make sure I'm there, however the new system means I can't. And by the way, 'haters gonna hate' is an expression meaning I'm going to say what I want to... I don't actually hate the game, I am a keen supporter of the game, just I feel that this update has decreased the high level that this game consistently achieves.

Ahh I see RL, my fone rings and I press P.  So when my team is rubbish and I check out why, and find I can push team mates 1/2 way across Dusseldorf - they are on FB. Some thing new every day.

Maybe instant gold boxes is a bit hard, but it gives all an equal chance - golds used to be for big druggers - did they get mad when skill grabbed one.

Haters is voting down posts - I see it as quickly agreeing or vicki verki with a post. Hate is destructive.

If I am a good player and the team is made up of mediocre, poor, or players who join to sabotage then drops are essential

Once time I was playing I only needed 30 or so crystals to upgrade to M2 hornet. But because there were no more drops I had to fight through another battle just to get enough to upgrade.

Sad thing was that the team was so poor I barely earned enough to upgrade after 20 minutes.

Had the original 10 crystal drops been available I would have likely picked up some and then been able to upgrade while in battle.

I don't actively hunt for crystals but if I see them and it won't cause me to ignore the team or lose the flag or lose following the opposing flag carrier then I will get them.

Really, it is no different than picking up other supplies - in fact the value of other drops is actually 50 - 150 crystals each when you think about how much they cost to buy.

See the problem still remains: the losing team in CTF gets jack squat as a reward. More often than not I always got more via pickups than by the distribution of the fund at the end.

You don't notice it much when you win but the losers get screwed big time now by not having any drops.

20 minutes for 30 or so crystals - I'd be long gone.

Do teams stop fighting and start collecting because they think they are going to lose. Some times I win 1 flag and my team change into winners.

If I get screwed big time - I wanna know why, and check out why  winners win. That's life. I don't look for a crystal box. http://en.tankiforum.com/index.php?showtopic=184384  may help - accept as given.

Tanki - please keep the update. Thankyou.

An example:

Right now a 20 minute CTF finished - the blue team won 8-4. Each team had 10 players.

Battle fund was 2517.

Team distribution:

Blue - 2198.

Red - 319.

Scores:

Blue: 2,876

Red: 2,246

Losers got 12.6% of the fund.

Losers had 43.9% of the overall score.

Winning player on blue had a score of 530 and got 410 crystals.

Top player on red had a score of 619 and got only 84.

Even the worst player on blue got 76 crystals with a score of 100.

It makes no sense that a player with a score of 619 gets almost the same as the worst player on the winning team.

I placed 5th and got only 20 crystals. I could have easily picked up more than 2 boxes worth 10 each under the old system.

So, tell me - how is the new system of any benefit to me?

PLEASE   WE NEED THE CRYSTALS BACK

As i wrote in an another post itis wrong to do not have crystals drop...it is ok to have bonus crystals at the end of the batlle....but many times i was in batlle i had much time to finsh the batlle....many players..gone from the batlle....so i had to change batlles all the time....so my bonus was about 200 crystals for 1 hour game....this is wrong for us who sometimes we dont have time for a long batlle. So i believe that  is ok for bonus at the end of the batlle...but drom some crystals time to time...make the gold box drop in the batlle such as:

1-copper box =200 crystals

2-silver box=500 crystals

3-gold box=1000 crystals

and why not 4-platinum box=3000 crystals

Also i have a surprise for players that only collecting crystals....drop many boxes with a question mark on...who knows what is inside....is it an extra power?...is it fast speed?...is it a repair kit? who knows....baby it is.....A MINE inside to destroy your tank...or  it take your half life....or it is a BRAKES.....you cant move for a time...makes you easy target for other players....

Anyway  ....you can see friends....there are many solutions for crystals....PLEASE DONT TAKE THEM FROM BATLLE...WE NEED THEM

Another one problem....i have a friend trying to play the game with 3 finger missing in left hand..not so easy to play....dont you think?

I believe it is easy to add in game controls.....JOYSTICK....who knows how many friends in the game have problems like this...please do something...

THANK YOU ALL FRIENDS..

KOSTAS DIMAS

That sounds cool, I like your idea!

BTW, I have a friend who plays and he uses a programable "Joystick" controller.

Do teams stop fighting and start collecting because they think they are going to lose. Some times I win 1 flag and my team change into winners.

I use Isida and often times my arrival changes the outcome because the team has no isida - going around and healing people suddenly can turn a losing team into a winning one - especially if I escort the flag carrier as every isida player should.

But sometimes people drop out for various reasons - ISP problems or other issues - then nobody joins. What was a winning situation turns ugly as the team balance changes and suddenly it is 5 against 10 - one of the great weaknesses of Tanki.

Or, you are on a winning team and then a few people on the losing team drop off and some druggers show up and buy the win.

I know its most likely that no dev will read this, but I'd still like to share a couple thoughts.

I've played Tanki for more than 4 years now, I've watched this game develop in huge ways, and never before has there not been a crystal box.

I think the crystal box system can be critiqued and improved, not completely destroyed.

I'll lay out a few changes I think could help and then try to explain them.

1. Keep the battle fund at the same rate that it is right now during this experiment.

Reason: Tankionline is a tough game, the learning curve and grind for upgrades is brutal, A small boost to the battle fund that we are experiencing right now would be awesome in addition to crystal boxes. That leads me to the next point.

2. Keep crystal boxes with the variations of amount.

I think its smartest to have a range from 10 crystals to 100, it seems worthless to have 1 and 5 crystal boxes.

3. Change rates and frequencies.

I know the developers and players did not like the drops because it was not fun to just sit around drop zones and wait for 100 crystal boxes.

Instead of making only 100 boxes fall when the battle fund is high and making it rare, why not have the frequency increase, possibility for higher crystal boxes increase, but variation still stay completely random!

The reason behind this is because then even though the battle fund is high, and 100 crystal boxes can drop, the frequency will be high and plenty of the lower crystal boxes will drop too. Because the drops are random, people will be less likely to sit on crystal box zones. 100s will fall, 10s will fall, 20s will fall... you never know. Unpredictability can help players focus more on what is predictable, the GAMEPLAY itself! Predictability(knowing a 100 will fall) will cause camping.

4. More Drop Zones

Having more drop zones will keep people from clumping around a few spots.

For example, the map Silence only had THREE drop zones. That made people camp in those 3 vital spots. In order to not have that kind of camping, and increase the randomness of the drops, more drop zones(like 1 closer to each base) can significantly decrease the camping and help the random variations and frequency I already mentioned.

Plenty of other maps also had very few drop zones, and they had the same problem.

5. Crystals as non-predictable drops. (this is a lesser point)

While I understand strategy being involved with predictable supply drops, crystals remaining unmarked could really help the game. When you play the game enough, like in the past, of course you know where the crystals will fall, but not having a marker will un-emphasize it significantly, especially for lesser ranked players that join games just for drops.

6. Keep random Gold Box drops that fall instantly

This is just how it was at one point, I love it.

I hope some of these suggestions were helpful.

- Bluedragon182

Sounds good too!!

The 30-90 seconds is good, everyone focus on Gold.

Some of these comments... Oh my gosh.

I saw one that had someone talking about gems.

Another is talking about the expirement lasting over a week, when a week is 7 days, and it has been about 5 days.

A few people are talking as if the crystals just dissapear, as if Semyon did not include anything about where the crystals from the boxes go (fund).

A lot of the ones against this, are mults, as you can plainly tell. Although there are a few good suggestions out there to not have either one and do something different.

Yes, you are right about your Isida - I very often fight with a brill Isida and share flags.

I always join battles with a time limit - then you can protect your winning position with a titan / freeze for example. The Hornet can then be serviced. :D

I support the update because so many good battles where ruined by an excess of crystal harvesters.

Hello - Please do you have a pic of the stat table or numbers of top & 2nd players kills - I would like to compare score / kill ratios for your battle. Thanks

This is a good update.

Edit - Titan is much better - check it out. In reply to post above.

One major flaw with crystal drops going into the battle fund is that you play 29 minutes out of a 30 minute map, your cable modem burps, and you lose your connection to the battle.

If there were 10 crystal drops you would not have lost as much of the reward because unless you are a sniper you probably were out and grabbed some while fighting.

Two more examples on a 20 minute map:

1. Blue wins 14-9, winner gets 686 out of a 3,662 battle fund. Top player on losing team gets 133. 5 of the losing players get less than 50 each. Everyone on red gets less despite having much higher scores than almost anyone on blue.

2. Blue wins 12-10, winner gets 1,042 out of a 3,902 battle fund. Top player on losing teams gets 255. Majority get 65 or less.

Again it looks as though putting the crystals into the battle fund is a losing proposition for most people.

Don't be immature. I never insulted anyone because their opinion does not match mine. Plus why are you replying to this, I did not direct it to you?

My point is simply 'you are wrong' or 'I hate this update' has no value, and in this case, he is, indeed plainly wrong!

1) Many mults are not there because of fund, they enter high ranked games because more crystals drop.

2) Choose your games wisely, and you will not gain any less crystals. The fact of the matter is, there are indeed more crystals up for grabs.

As for the buying matter, I can sympathise with you. But I have never bought a crystal, yet if you choose games and play well you shouldn't have problems.

I don't intend to reply any more to your insults - especially personal insults about whether I have a life outside computer games :p don't make me laugh, I can assure you you don't know enough about me to make sweeping judgments like that ;)

Ok sorry if you thought I was being immature but I was referring to one of your earlier posts and I used that one as an example and I apologise if I've misunderstood you meant. but anyway let me make a few points in a more 'mature' way

1. Ok you seem a little mixed up with the different types of bad players so let me explain it a bit clearer Mults are not in it for drops they are there to help someone on the opposing team get more crystals out of the battle fund by letting that player/team rack up points whilst hindering their own team. What you seem to be on about is crystal campers/collectors who are players going onto battles simply for crystal drops. Personally I hate and would never condone both.

2. that may be true but what happens to as I said players who suddenly get bad connection or errors (as has happened on several occasions sice the start of the experiment) is it really that they chose the wrong battle?

3. Well at least we have something in common and it seems that you are ok with 10 crystal boxes back in the game and I hope they do as like many players I hated the crystal update in the predictable drops.

Yes I do see the advantages for this system however and I realise that I haven't given a balanced point of view however I feel that such a thing would be pointless as everything has already been discussed

Finally I am truly sorry that my posts obviously insulted you believe me I have nothing against you so once again I'm sorry.

I am definitely not playing as much with this experiement going on.  It is impossible to gather more crystals than experience in a day.  All this is doing is shoving me into tougher battles with tanks that out gun me.

No reason to play under those circumstances.

a good idea might be , making crystal boxes of '25'  drop randomly around the field ' per milestone of a battle funds ,so then everyone will knows when there will be dropping and when they can be playing like make them drop every each 500 or 1k when battle funds is collecting.then everyone is happy because everyone can play and everyone can have a chance to get crystals too....100 crystal boxes is just a step too ahead from when it was 10 offcourse there will be looters. :)

Here's another example: despite the high scores even the worst player on the winning team got more than the top score on the losing team:

What incentive is there to keep playing if there are no crystal drops or some minimum payout?

Most people play for free without ever having spent a penny, and yet they complain about not getting as many free crystals. If you want crystals increase your skill level and earn them, or buy some. I see people commenting about high rank buyers getting a huge advantage because they own everything M3 and all fully MU'ed. Try adding up the cost of doing that, it is thousands of dollars :o . So based on that fact buyers deserve to get an advantage over someone who has never spent a penny. Buyers buy because they want to play the game and not have to worry about running around grabbing crystals, and being a burden to the team by not helping. It is not Tanki's job to support you, it is yours. Welcome to the real world.

First of all, I appreciate those who buy crystals, after all they are the ones who fund the game. Also it's common-sense  they'd have an advantage, and rightfully so, however, its doesn't mean they're more skilled or better players. The way I see it is that many of them NEED the boughten advantage to MU and constantly drug in order to compete with non-paying customers. And don't tell me that crystal buyers don't use that advantage to collect more free crystals as well….because I know they do!

And no, it's not Tanki's job to support non-paying players, what they do is similar to what many companies do and offer a free sample, or trial in order to attract paying costumers, or similar to a drug pusher who gives away they're product at first for free hoping to addict people to come back and buy their drugs. But in this case it's the option of a temporary advantage in the game that Tanki selling, and if there's enough people who are willing to buy it, it's quite lucrative! Tanki needs to maintain a free player base to find those who are willing to pay, and paying costumers need the free playing base in order to have an advantage over others. So without non-paying players, you're both screwed!

Keep in mind that ALL players paying and non-paying were asked to join the discussion about this "experiment", just because you're paying for an advantage in the game doesn't mean you're more important. Get off your high horse….. Tanki is a business, that's reality!

BTW, What i like about Tanki is that they seem to know and appreciate the value of those who play for free! i hope you keep it up Tanlki!

A closer look at the battle stats shows why the higher scorer can receive  fewer crystals.

http://i58.tinypic.com/16c8ltf.jpg

Upper one. Red lost - 8 players had higher dl than 1 - they defended rather than attacking - and gained score from kills and returning red flag.

Looks like some reds had a go.

Your winning blue team was much more balanced as a team.

http://i60.tinypic.com/16bd73s.jpg

Some of the reds went for kills instead of flags

Good  CTF players tend to have high score, low destroyed, high lost - all they see are flags.

Your stats look ok - tip - enter battle -check the stats - stay or go.

Some peeps may say the above is rubbish - but then I get to win like good football managers. :)

Tanki - Please keep the update.
