Swing Out Sister...they were popular...very popular even, but I feel they were still highly underrated.  They had unique, complex, and arguably perfect arrangements.  They always use arch-musicians so each song is super tight execution.  And Corinne Drewery has one of those pristine Celtic clean clear voices.  All this wrapped up in into catchy danceable pop tunes.  They wowed Japan but only had success in the West with their first couple of albums and that success was kinda tepid.  SOS is another band that you can pick any song on any album and it is a total winner.

Breakout - their biggie pop hit live (with Level 42...wow, cool)

Another great live performance of "Am I the Same Girl"  damn, just such a good tight band...

It's a shame that more folks on this forum don't care for jazz or even fusion because this is a real lost jewel in the fusion treasure trove.  It was kind of obscure even in its own time (very few folks ever cared much about instrumental music, so if you don't, you are in good company).  The band was an offshoot of The Almann Brothers Band which is odd since The Almann Bros were known for their Southern Fried Rock...but if you listen with a critical ear you will hear a hell of a lot of jazz elements in The Almann Bros and, if you know the Almanns, you may hear some of their sound in Sea Level but distilled into more straight ahead fusion.

Anyway, I digress, most of Sea Level's members were musicians for the Almann's but broke off into their own thing...and what a wonderful thing it was...so tight, so clean.  After 40 years it is still as fresh as ever.  Some benevolent soul posted the entire 1st album on YouTube.  The 1st cut in one of my favorites so just click play and away you go.  Anybody that listens to the whole album gets a cookie!

(Not that anyone probably cares, but this is incorrectly labeled on YouTube,,,"On the Edge" is an entirely different album by Sea Level.  This is their first album and is self titled "Sea Level".)

In case we have another Hawaiian posting on this thread...some bait.   I really need to get an injection of new Hawaiian music...I'm 20 years out of the loop.

There is a long introductory portion to this song (quite good but not really Kawika) that builds to about 1:40 where Kawika really kicks in.  Brilliant Island music by icons of Hawaiian music.

I kinda doubt anyone will like this...it's brilliant, but instrumental, and, euwwwww, jazz.  Kinda avant garde big band jazz at that.

I saw charts to this when I was a kid and the time signatures are the stuff of nightmares...like two bars of 7/2 with a counterpuntal segment of 4 bars of 33/16. Signatures that don't even seem possible, but all playing together and somehow working.  There is no way I could figure it out...I have no idea how the band can do it...craftsmanship I guess.

It's a shame that more folks on this forum don't care for...

hey, you seem to be an expert in music... do you have anything to suggest me?

in general i only like male voices in military songs... I don't mind tolerating them when they sing with females but i prefer it if they just growl and grunt (like mark jansen in epica)

stuff i like are :

Marina Kaye

Louane

Angele

^these 3 remind me of the girls i knew when i was a bit younger (feels like a lifetime away cause i was a different person)

I also like :

serebro

mylene farmer (idk why)

cossack choirs

pretty much any eastern european army choirs

soviet era singers

and bands i like are :

epica

the pretty reckless

halestorm

thanks in advance ^_^

kinda Epica-ish
Omnimar
Therion
Within Temptation
Nightwish

...a little crunchier but kinda in the same goth vein
Evanescence
Flyleaf

....old school rock chics
Lita Ford
Warlock    ...Doro's first band

...she has the growl
Arch Enemy

I got nothin' for Russian military choirs other than standard classical stuff and there are tons and tons of that kind of music.  I like lots of stuff by Prokofiev much better, but is this kinda what you are looking for?
