Damage and reload time are enough in my opinion. Don't waste too many crystals to micro-upgrading m2 equipment.

I bought Jackhammer kit, mainly to get M3 Viking at Brigadier. The M3 Hammer and Tiger paint were bonuses.

I like Hammer, but I have played with Ricochet my entire tanki career. Thus, I have no idea what I'm doing with this M3 Hammer. Players have noticed. Since Saturday, I've been told that I suck with Hammer and pretty regularly called a noob. I don't mind... After all they're right. I hadn't considered the results of putting an M3 turret in my inexperienced hands. I also think there is some jealousy... Most of these players are on M2 equipment, while I'm stumbling around with non-MUd M3. For instance last night I was in a 1-1 with a firebird who threatened me with "gonna get my M2 on" when I joined. When I ignored him, he switched to hammer. When that didn't work, he asked me to take my paint off. When I didnt, he drugged like crazy. I lost the battle... Remember I suck with Hammer, only having played it for five days. But I only lost by one kill, AND I still won my mission because I was the 'first' on my 'team' :)

EDIT: Lots of folks on this thread commenting about how overpowered hammer is. It's not. One on one with comparable hulls it loses always to Isida and Firebird. Two on one, it loses always due to it's clip reload. Hammer has the advantage only when it:

A-catches an enemy from behind and can empty two shots before the enemy can turn around.

B-goes 1-1 against hornet or poor wasps.

C-drugs (yeah, that's awesome)

D-goes against medium hulls using Thunder, Smoky, or another Hammer. Freeze is a maybe.

E-kill steals... Very good turret for this

You have got to pay attention to your clip though. I've been toasted a bunch of times by going into an engagement with only one shot left :(

Edit 2:- Hammer seems to be making a comeback at Brigadier and ranks higher, probably due to Jackhammer kit, but I am seeing more M2s, which I can't explain. Some battles have had up to four Hammers, which is when I put on the Tiger paint I received in the kit. But that's rare. Usually there is only one other Hammer, and I trade out my paint for Sandstone (bought at 50% in June) or Loam (bought at 40% this month's Tanker's Day sale) depending on whether I'm dealing with Rail, Thunder, or Fire. I also keep Dragon around for the occasional Rico infestation.

What you do with Hammer is if you have one shot left, empty it out. It's pretty rare to get 1 shot kills. Unless on DP of course. Also, learn the peek-a-boo tactic. Very effective. And if going up a Railgun, wait till he's about to shoot then shoot him. The impact force makes them miss; A LOT.

Here's my question: is the M2 and M3 version worth it? I'm considering if I should get it.

Hammer is better than smoky to make railguns miss. You don't even need to fire on the edges, a shot can raise a light hull up and make them miss :)

At your rank M2 is grossly underpowered, but at M3 with even a few MUs and it's great, I have it on another account. :) Personally I have a bit more fun with Smoky, since there's no need to run away in fear after you've expended your 3 shots.

You just empty your clip when no one is around and start with 3 shots again... roughly 300 damage.

Being that the charging time can be bumped up to 3,8 seconds; you'll have your 3 shots back pretty fast.

That's almost twice as fast as Railgun.

Lol and this thing on drugs is just... yeah, asdfasdfasdfkfhjlg

poor wasps.

:(
