Night Mode for maps and Shaft’s laser scope

I think shaft just got the shaft with adding a laser that can be seen by everyone.

Part of sniping is to find a good position and not to be seen. Great now everyone knows where we are (TOTALLY BAD IDEA). That was the only advantage for shaft was sniping undercover.  Just put a red beacon on top also!

Exactly my idea also.

I posted before, but these changes are just so awful...

Gameplay obviously can only be an imitation of real life, but hopefully the parallels and strategies would be comparable. As others have said, the nature of being a sniper is being stealthy and hidden. This is so incongruous - may as well put a flashing light on the turret.

Everything is trade offs in real life and in gameplay. Light tanks have speed but no armor. Heavy tanks have armor, but no speed. Twins shoot fast and reload fast but have shorter range and less power... Everyone realizes that right away and chooses weapons that fit their skills and strategy. However, not only is having a laser on the shaft illogical, it's another (too big) negative. The shaft had long range and accuracy as a plus and slow reload as a minus. It is now a sitting duck while reloading and/or sighting. Please bring back the old shaft.

I've seen some other ideas to modify this change, but just going back to the old shaft is the best I think.

  • One choice is to only let your own team see your laser. Then they could coordinate with your position.
  • Some type of power up that turns off the laser temporarily - Useful, but unrealistic.
  • Laser that comes on only after prolonged sighting - again, may be functional, but not realistic.

I can't convey enough how bad a decision I think this was... I hope it was just a mistaken idea on the part of developers and not some scam to encourage players to buy other weapons. I'm so frustrated, I don't see myself playing much unless some changes are made. I certainly won't be buying any crystals.

FAIL

The whole point of SNIPING is to not be seen.  You've just completely stripped that away with this update.  Probably the most ******ed turret update since I began playing in March 2014.

If you want to give a "hint" to make things "fair", then show an illuminated dot on the target's hull or on objects nearby. At most perhaps show a tiny red dot on the sniper. But to show a laser from point A to point B is idiotic. Tanki developers needs to rethink this one.  Absolutely stupid!

WIN

On the other hand, I have been waiting for a night mode to finally be released. I haven't tried it yet but I am sure it's fantastic.  The next thing on my wish list is weather conditions such as rain/snow/thunder. Night mode is a huge win.

Tanki developers...you got this one half right. Obviously noobs who hate snipers are going to love the dead giveaway (might as well hold their hands and help them drive their tanks while you're at it) ....but any player with experience knows where to look for snipers and doesn't need a laser beam "hint".

I agree

Tankers! Our game keeps evolving. Today marks the release of two, new, exciting updates. Let’s look into them in more detail!

Laser scope for Shaft

Before this update, Shafts used to be very challenging opponents, to the extent that some tankers found them frustrating to deal with. This was mainly because an instant kill from a Shaft was impossible to predict.

However, Shaft is a turret that is totally unique in terms of gameplay. Because of that, we want to keep it in Tanki. Of course, we also want tankers to have a fair shot at defending themselves from Shaft's sniping attacks and dealing with it effectively.

Our solution is the laser scope. From now on, while in sniping mode, Shaft will project a laser beam visible to everyone in the arena. This will make Shaft attacks more predictable, and will add a new tactical dimension to the game, both for Shaft users and their opponents. You'll be able to spot enemy snipers more easily and use alternative routes to get close enough to deal with them. On the other hand, one or several Shafts controlling a narrow pass, will discourage anyone from trying to break through.

We have also removed the shake from Shaft’s scope view, making long-range precision kills easier and deadlier. Whether you are a Shaft user yourself, or a tanker trying sneak past enemy snipers, this update is definitely worth checking out.

Night mode for maps

If you're looking for a new way to experience Tanki Online, you're going to love the new Night Mode. The darker sky and textures, as well as the illuminated drop boxes and flags, will not only make the experience more immersive, but also add a whole new tactical element. While an illuminated flag will be easier to locate, it will also make your position a lot more evident while carrying it, making you an easier target to spot.

For now, Night Mode is exclusively available on Rio, Sandbox, Barda, Kungur, Polygon, Silence, Stadium and Future. Eventually, if the feature proves to be popular, we might choose to make it available on all maps.

We hope you'll enjoy these new updates. Make sure you give us your feedback; it will help continue to improve the game, making it more fun and engaging for you.

i have not tried it yet but it looks awesome in vlog, this night map and laser shaft update came a week after vlog told us about it so im guessing after they tell us about the new turret machinegun( vlog on machinegun is tomorrow) (vlog already showed shotgun)they will release it a week later.

at risk of repeating myself...

NO-NO-NO to Shaft Lazerscope!

What a dumb idea, it would RUIN Shaft  completly, glad i didnt buy Shaft M3 now.

They're vunerable enough as is. You cannot see around you when Shafting. And with tankers not running around after crystal boxes any more, Shafts are now a marked target, making Shaft even more vunerable, and takes ages to reposition after spawning.

This is because you cant predict Shaft Hit??? Thats the point, the unexpected.

What you gonna do with Mines then??? Put a big red danger circle around them??? Tell me.

Course everyone who dosen't Shaft would want this. Only gun that's really different & fun. Don't RUIN it, PLS. D

And lastly

With no more falling crystal boxes, you've ruined Hornet. Everyone uses larger tanks now like Viking to push for Gold.

With shared kills you have ruined Railgun. Flame, Freeze, Isiada all back now in fashion.

Guess who has M3+ Hornet&Railgun? Too late for me to change. Total waste of crystals. Stop moving goalposts.

Way too much tinkering about lately. RIP Tanki

So, the night mode is awesome...good thing...

but what about i am concerned is the ....Sinper mode of Shaft.....
Shaft is nothing without Sniper mode....but if that "Snip" is visible to everyone then i am sorry its not a good for shafts!!!!
if ur giving laser because shaft can kill at much more distance so opponent should be aware...then "rail" too do this at longer distance...so does it will be fissible to make opponent much more eariler to release shell from shaft n beam from rail???

of course NO....

if u really wants this in the game...Only the target should be aware of "Lock down" of shaft's shell!!!

I selected the Shaft turret precisely for the reasons you're now downgrading it. Each turret has it's own strengths and weaknesses. The Shaft does not have a quick reload option, which is a serious weakness. Often times when in the scope mode it takes a while to find a target. If my tank is projecting a laser beam everywhere that is just lame. In real life there is no beam leading back to a sniper, only the red dot on the intended target. I get that this is not a real scenario, but please think through what you're doing to Shaft users.

A Question About the Shaft Update

Please read it all the way through

That's a neat idea.  I really LOVE the fact that they took the shake off of the sniping mode.  That was a royal pain in the neck to deal with.  But why the laser?!  The whole point of Shaft is that it's supposed to be undetected!!!  All it takes is about two to three shots and the enemy knows, if not exactly, the general area that you're in.  After that, it's just a simple matter of going up behind them and firing.  The Shaft sniper mode doesn't turn fast enough to defend, so you would have to fire the shot and run away.  But by the time that you've overcome the shock of, "Hey, somebody's shooting me!", you've already lost too much health to get away.  You have to get your tank accelerated and find a place to go.  99% of the time, your attacker has already got that sorted out.  You would die before you got away.  Shaft is already hard enough to use.  Why would you make it worse?  The other players have an advantage over Shaft, not the other way around.  Now, supposing that we don't move after every shot that we take, it's going to be a fight of superior fire power, not the stealth and skill that being a sniper is.  "Who's got the most powerful gun?"  "Who's got the hideout with only one escape route?"  That's NOT the way that it's supposed to be.  When using Shaft, you want a place that is open enough to see the battlefield, but covered up enough to hide you.  You want at least two escape routes, that way if one fails, you can always go to the other.  And when they find you, and the will eventually, your sniper spot is shot until that person leaves the battle, assuming that he hasn't told his team in the chat where you are.  You get up there again, and they come up there and kill you again.

Now, don't get me wrong.  I'm not mad.  Maybe a little irritated at the fact that it's going to be harder to snipe people, but I'm looking forward to a good challenge.  I'm just wondering why you would put that in the game when it's already hard enough.

I don't like being asked for our opinions, and then thanked for our opinions, and then having them ignored is good for the community.  I didn't see very much positive feedback for the laser thing on Shaft on the test server topic, but we got it anyway.  That's the second time I feel like they "asked" for our opinion to make us feel better, but did what they wanted (i.e. crystal drops).  It's their game and they should make it however they want it, but quit trying to sell it as the communities ideas', it's not!

The Night Maps are awesome, props on that!
