I like their approach.

It is actually more reasonable to teach players and guide them to the path of a violation-free career. Reporting by players is really important and the moderators do appreciate those whom use it for good, however, reporting a violation and posting a topic on forum isn't a bad thing as well.

You see, the evidence players send are normally and obviously not in present. That player had made a violation long ago. So, ban him?

What if you try to teach him. Similarly, if a moderator is in a battle and sees a violation, he doesn't ban. He would advise the player to not violate rules and follow each and everyone. However, if the player's karma shows that he doesn't listen to the mods' advise, then they would most probably take steps higher(ban/warn).

I totally support their idea to hire moderators whom aid players to let them and others play freely and safely.

On the other hand, not reporting chat violations on forum now might cause a bit more violation(s)... but with time it'll go away as mods are working hard on this. :)

please show me the topic on educating violators, or let me know the plans Tanki have to teach transgressors the error of their ways, other than having the current moderators in place , other wise all this shows is that there were so many violators the topic was a victim of its own success

edit i have already posted this in ideas and suggestions

as the chat violator section is closed please extend the list of words that get automatically starred out in chat, every time a moderator sees a new way to swear in chat they should be able to add it to a dictionary of words not allowed, over time this will stop many swears and insults or racist remarks from every day usage in the chat this will never remove all of them but I don't see complaining about another players bad language, insults or racism as privilege which it clearly is considered now

by removing this ability to complain about other peoples behaviour you have given carte blanche to violators to treat others badly

if you say the stick dont work, next is the carrot  so you will reward people for insulting others and send them on holidays to the maldives

I support you

Now there will be more swearing because players have no way to be banned for fly hacking etc. unless a mod is in the battle

the game violators is still open so they can be banned for fly hacking but not for swearing

Mixed feelings as well.

They seem to have a good plan in mind to have less violations while banning less, that is for sure.

But, now the excuses for the violators are, "I can not get banned anymore", and keep at it. Also, to be honest it is pretty impossible to "teach" a good amount of the violators nowadays. Reason being, they are ignorant and do not really care about the rules. Then again, neither this nor the ban will change their ways. At least the ban keeps them from violating more rules for a while, though.

What exactly do you mean by closing the Chat Violators Section? Is it not still open?

It's because they are too lazy to read all the message in the violators section.

I'm fairly certain it has nothing to do with laziness. Pretty sure they just have a ton of work to get done, and have to spread out their time and effort accordingly to multiple tasks. Therefore, they may or may not have enough time to read and reply to all complaints in that Section.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

FEEDBACK

I personally have not seen any of this "educating" going on. Mods still do not talk and all I have witnessed in the servers is player X banned for reason.....   I do understand what you are trying to do but if the current line-up of moderators are not doing this "educating" then this whole idea will fail. I have seen a lot more violations in the chats since the violator's section was closed and have done my own "educating". The only thing that happens now, is I get told where to "GO". I've also been told "You can't do anything about it."

Maybe they could have a sub group of people that could report violators to mods. These people would need to apply for such a position, and would need to be approved. This way, violators that really need to be dealt with, can be reported. Remember, fear of punishment is a very effective deterrent, a little "stern talking to" means nothing to most. I also feel that those that continue to break the rules need to be punished more severely. Start removing equipment or crystals. Chat bans really mean nothing, they just switch accounts and carry on doing and saying whatever they want.

I'm glad someone re-opened this topic. It needs to be discussed.  ;)

If the person is mature enough, he won't use offensive language.

But if a person breaks the rules, what should we do?

  1. Let him know about the game rules. This is the fist part - educating. And this is not only moderators' job, but ours too. Saying "go and read the rules" won't be helpful. We need to give him the link.
  2. If the violation is repeated, they either get warned or banned (depending of how serious the violation is).
  3. If the same thing happens again, they get a longer ban. This is the second part - punishing.
  4. If the violation is serious, like sabotaging, multing, offensive bahavior, etc. and is repeated over and over again, they get a forever ban.

Now, let's take the first step together. We must let them know about the rules ;)

  1. Let him know about the game rules. This is the fist part - educating. And this is not only moderators' job, but ours too. Saying "go and read the rules" won't be helpful. We need to give him the link.  << many of us are already doing this, and have been for a long time, however most players don't want to hear it, let alone read the rules.
  2. If the violation is repeated, they either get warned or banned (depending of how serious the violation is). << This is where the problem now lies. If honest players, who are trying to help, have nowhere to report the "repeated violation" , how are they going to get punished.
  3. If the same thing happens again, they get a longer ban. This is the second part - punishing. << I agree, stronger punishment is needed.
  4. If the violation is serious, like sabotaging, multing, offensive bahavior, etc. and is repeated over and over again, they get a forever ban. << I agree, permanent bans are needed.

Now, let's take the first step together. We must let them know about the rules ;)

I'm am not trying to argue with you. :)  This is good discussion, and good discussion is very important if we want to come up with a solution to this problem. Rules are great, but you need a way to enforce the rules, and we can't expect the few mods we have to be everywhere and take care of everything. With a place to report what we, as players see, we where being the eyes for the mods, which makes it easier for them.

One problem that always bothered me, and still continues, is the fact the mods never explain why they punished (banned) someone. This is what, as most of you already know, happens in the violators section. In most cases a player logs in, finds them selves banned, with absolutely no idea why, and if they don't go to forum to find out why, they never know, so they never learn from their mistakes. We are now talking about educating  the violators, well then why not try to explain what they did wrong, instead of just offering some link to the rules.  When someone gets banned they should get a message explaining why they got banned, right in the main screen.

I also think their needs to be some protocol for the mods to follow, clearly there isn't one or the mods chose not to follow it. There is no consistency between the different mods, some mods do a great job and others don't. If proper protocols where put into place all mods would be handling things the same way, well at least with a lot more consistency.

Then you're not often on EN servers - that's where we mostly put our efforts in. Older players already know the rules of this game, so we chose to focus on those who are relatively new here. And yes, we still ban. Graphic sexual language or racist remarks on the public chat are bannable beyond any doubt - the language and an attitude that is not allowed in your own home certainly isn't allowed here. And as I already pointed out - we can only go up to a point. We're not parents nor teachers, ours is to help and prevent, and that's what we're trying to do.

With all due respect. I do spend a lot of time in the server chats. Helping when I can. Many people know me. However I do not see much in the way of "educating remarks" from the mods. I see very little conversation between mods and violator.  If this is changing that is great, but I have not seen it much. I agree that you are not parents or teachers, but many players look up to mods as such. In a players eyes, mods are Tanki online and you are in control.

If you would like to discuss this further, I'm willing to take the time to talk to you, and Thank-you for what you do around here. I know you don't get to hear how much honest player appreciate the Admins hard work very often. If we didn't care we would not have commented in this topic.

First of all, thanks for the appreciation :)

As for server chats, we are aware of the fact that we cannot cover all of them, all the time. They are active 24/7, and there's simply not that many of us, plus some servers are entirely occupied by players who do not speak English, so we have to find suitable moderators to assist them. That being said, we're working our best to acquire more moderators in the next few months, and to be on as many servers as possible, throughout the day (and night).

And as for violators' section, we felt that spending hours on the forum instead of being on the chat with the players for the same amount of time is counter-productive.
