[Issue 30] Can you contribute to the official Tanki Online Wiki?

All right I'll be making an article on everything there is about defending. Tanki Online Wiki Developers can add pictures if they want to because I cannot as my laptop can't do that properly.

Everything You Need To Know About Defending

So, we are all familiar with defending the flag in Tanki Online. Not to be confused with the so-called "camping", it really is important to the outcome of a battle and is a technique that is necessary to win one as an addition to attacking. However, sometimes you have to defend solo as most of your teammates are attacking.

What is defending?

Defending is  the "art" of protecting your flag from enemies and not letting them obtain it and/or get too far with it and/or capture it. It is essential in every CTF battle that a team has a stable defense that can very rarely, if EVER broken. You should obtain constant communication with other defenders and be spread out throughout the map.

Defending As A Team

What Should I Use To Defend?

First off, in a basic map with about 10 team members, there should be about 4 or 5 defenders in the base at a time. Your tank's speed, health and damage dealt to others will be important as well. I recommend the best 5 defense turrets: freeze, twins, railgun, hammer and isida, and the best defense hulls: wasp, hunter, viking, titan and mammoth. Surprised? Yes I was as well when I discovered that the turret isida and the hull wasp were good for defense (of course not very effective when paired together). The reason for this is this: instead of fighting over a predictable drop health zone, or waste your health supply, why not get assistance from a friendly isida? I recommend putting the isida on a viking and this will be very convenient especially when there are multiple enemies entering your base because the tank the isida is healing will literally have double health and with an armor, quadruple health, and with a good paint against the enemy's main attacker, about 6 times your usual health! Imagine a mammoth m3 with 3000 health against the enemy's main attacker just sitting on your flag! Talk about OP defense!

And then there is wasp. I was even more surprised when i found out it was good for defending. It is probably not good in mid-ranged maps but in large maps like Superhouv, you really need a fast hull with not too much drift and control. This is because the if an enemy somehow steals your flag, you will need a fast hull to keep up with him and annihilate him! I recommend putting a freeze on wasp. The maximum amount of wasps you should have in your defense is 1. In my opinion, the best defense combos would be a twins mammoth on the flag with an isida viking nearby, and a freeze wasp on the edge of your base hiding and maybe a hammer titan as well. A railgun hunter (AKA Semyon Kirov :P) would be helpful as well for long-ranged support.

How to defend?

I covered some of this in "What Should I Use To Defend?" but here it is more clearly shown. You should always have a fast defender at the go ready to take on any attacker that escapes. You should also have long ranged support and someone that protects the flag solidly (by blocking enemy attackers from touching it) and a healer so your defense is never low on health. Remember, it is important that your defense is never cramped into one place, it should be varied and spread out (not too much). Some should be out in the open and some under cover.

What To Do If The Flag Has Been Taken?

This is the job for the long ranged supporter and the freeze. The isida can help out as well. The isida and freeze should go after the enemy quickly and deal as much damage as possible and slow the enemy down too. Meanwhile, the railgun can do different things. It can run ahead and take the enemy flag like an attacker (if it hasn't already been taken by your good attacking teammates) or, if it has already been taken, try to intercept the enemy or wait in ambush. Try to get at least 1 shot on the enemy who has your flag while the freeze and isida are damaging and slowing him. Keep in mind that if he gets into his base, it will be a lot harder to return your flag.

Defending Solo

What Should I Use To Defend/ How to defend?

Well, because all your teammates have supposedly abandoned you, you will need a fast hull with enough health, maybe a hunter, and a freeze to slow enemies down while dealing damage. Mines would also be of great help to a solo defender, especially if you are dealing with a "drugger". You could alternatively use a much more health-based hull with still enough speed (may need to add a nitro), possible a dictator, with a long ranged gun that deals massive damage, like railgun. A dictator railgun would be especially useful for solo defending for 4 main reasons: it has unlimited range, it has the power and health to sit on the flag and push others away, you can deal damage to multiple enemies especially if there is an isida behind the enemy attacking you, and the height of the dictator with the force of the railgun work together in sync to shoot enemy turrets, thus flipping them or temporarily "disabling them" so you can deal with multiple enemies at once. Remain in cover but once you see an enemy get near your flag, sit on the flag and destroy them.

What To Do If The Flag Has Been Taken?

Well, if you are the only defender on your team, I would presume their flag would be taken too (90% of your team is attacking) so the best choice would be to go straight after the enemy and destroy him before he gets into his base. I don't think your teammates would be that ridiculous as to let you go after the enemy alone, so you should receive help soon after your flag is taken.

Hoped you liked and learned a lot from my short guide to defending  :)

How to Guide: Crystals

Crystals are the currency of Tanki Online.  They are used to buy turrets, hulls, paints, modifications, kits, supplies, and passes; essentially EVERYTHING in Tanki Online.  What and how are the most effective ways to get them?  Welcome to your How To Guide for Crystals!

First off, let me start by listing all the ways to buy crystals.

Buying Crystals

Earning them from battles

Daily Bonus

Contests

Rankups

Friend Referals

Buying Crystals

Buying crystals is the easiest way to earn crystals; that is if you have real-life money of course.  Tanki offers many ways to buy crystals including credit cards, prepaid cards, PayPal, SMS, and mobile payments.  This makes it extremely easy to buy crystals with however you want to.  Another pro of buying crystals is that not only you can get new hulls and turrets, you also support the TO staff.  Also, through the Daily Bonus, you can receive a Double Crystal card.  If you buy crystals when you have this card you receive double the crystals.  For example, Tanker_X buys 100,000 crystals; with the double crystal card, Tanker_X receives 200,000 crystals.  On top of that, sometimes the Tanki Online staff will have a sale on crystals.  If it’s a 50% off sale, Tanker_X only needs to pay half of what the original price was.  Topped off with a double crystal card, you can get some serious crystals, with a low amount of money.  However, since it does require real money, some tanker opt not to buy their crystals, but to acquire them for free instead.

Earning Crystals

There are a few ways to “earn” crystals, although technically by logging on or if you earn real life money, it still counts as earning, my definition will be this:

Earned crystals are crystals that you obtain by battling or competing in competitions, in which you earn the crystals directly from your hard work.

Battling

Battling is the most popular way to acquire crystals, no need for money, no need for work, just play.  Join a battle and start!  Once the battle is over, the battle fund, which is located in the bottom right hand corner will be distributed amongst all the tankers in the battle.  The battle fund grows as the battle progresses, usually the longer, bigger, and action packed games reward the tankers with bigger battle funds.  However, not all tankers are rewarded with the same amount of crystals.  The portion of crystals you are rewarded with are determined by A) how many points you earned and B) how your team scored compared to the other team.  Once the battle is over,  the scoreboard will appear and show how many crystals each tanker got.  The scoreboard will then disappear and the crystals will automatically be added to your account!  Simple as that!

Another note about battles is that gold boxes have the possibility of dropping.  Gold boxes contain 1000 crystals and are extremely rare.  For each crystal gained in the battle fund, there is a 1/7000 chance for it to drop.  Most tankers find it a rarity; as I mentioned earlier, they are extremely hard to come across.  Dictator is a commonly used hull for gold boxes; its tall frame and slanted front give it an advantage against other tankers.  Just like battles, the crystals are automatically added to your account after you catch one.

Contests

The Tanki Online staff does a great job of supplying the community with new and exciting competitions.  These competitions can yield high reward, but require cunning, clever, and creative brains.  If you win a prize, the crystals will be added to your account after the results are released, usually 1-2 days.  There are 3 types of contests that Tanki supports, in-game, press contests, and contests Tanki officially hosts itself.

In Game Contests

In the past, Tanki Online has betting competitions, where tankers can vote for a team by buying a paint.  If that team wins, Tanki rewards tankers bought the winning paint with crystals.  Namely, the Rusty Barrels competitions and also the Clan Championships.  These contests are fairly popular, tankers don’t need to go to the forum to participate.

Press Contests

Press Contests are run by Tanki Online reporters.  These contests are extremely fun and are great for tankers that would like to express their creativity.  These contests also do give out crystals to the winners, and often times also consultation prizes to tankers that gave didn’t quite hit the target but still gave a good shot.

Official Tanki Contests

There are contests hosted by Tanki itself,.  These include contests like The Game and seasonal creativity contests like Master of Parkour.  Usually these contests have HUGE and exclusive prizes for the grand winner and have lots of contestants.  Some of the prizes include: a fully mu’ed custom dream tank, loads of supplies, exclusive paints, and crystals of course!  Not only do you have a shot at crystals, you have a shot at prizes that only the winners will receive.

Other Ways to acquire Crystals

Daily Bonus

The Daily Bonus is an easy way acquire crystals.  Log in and see if you are greeted by some crystals.  However, you might not get crystals every time.  There is a possibility you might get some supplies, a one day PRO-pass, and even the double crystal card that I mentioned earlier.  This is a unreliable source of crystals, but when you do get them it is extremely easy.

Friend Referrals

You can earn crystals by inviting your friend.  Yup you heard that right.  There are a couple ways to invite your friends, E-mail, Banner Codes, and links.  Every time your friend ranks up, you earn a certain amount of crystals.  However, this value is a bit insignificant if you are quite a higher rank above your friend.  Below is a chart that shows how much you earn once your friend ranks up.  The better part is that if your friend buys crystals, you get 10% of what they buy.  For example, if your friend buys 100,000 crystals, you would also get 10,000.  This is a good deal, especially if your friend becomes a big buyer of crystals.

Rank-ups

Everytime you rank up, you earn crystals.  Once you reach the amount of experience you need to rank-up, a golden spire will appear on top of your tank and greet you with a message.  “Congratulations!  You have obtained new rank <<*New Rank*>>  Your gift *Crystal Amount* !”  As you rank up the crystal values increase.  This is a great source of crystals, as the amount of crystals you get is not too over powered for your rank, but isn’t a small sum either.

Warnings

Hacks

Tanki Online has many rumored and fake “Hacks” or “Cheats”.  These DO NOT work and you might end up with viruses on your computer.  On top of that, use of hacks and cheats are prohibited by Tanki Online; as indicated by the Rules.  This will lead to permanent ban.

Spending your Crystals

When spending your crystals, it is important that you get the most out of them.  A good tip is to try to buy anything that you want while it is on sale.  Tank Online usually releases sales on major holidays as well as randomly too.  Don’t miss them, good sales are not extremely frequent.  Sales can significantly reduce the price of the product you want to buy by anywhere from 15% to 70%.  This way, you won’t have to worry about acquiring crystals as often.

In addition to this, remember that if you win, your article will be going on the Wiki, so it'll be a repeat. I'd try rewording them, adding some more points or integrating them well and evenly throughout your guide.

No suggestions to my article?

My words are going up to 2500 now, what should I do???

After you finish the guide, just delete all of the unnecessary/least necessary information until you're close to 1,250 words.

Good luck. :)

I took a screenshot of myself destroying 2 other tanks. I did not have time to ask their permission to take the picture as it was spur-of-the-moment. I want to use it in my submission for this contest. I could not find them in the forum to ask their permission to use it.

What are the rules in this circumstance? May I just use the picture as is? Or should I blank out their names?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Tanki Online: Playing Style

tanki-online-borpg.jpg

How do you play? A very well-known playing style in many shooter games is camping: In Tanki that would mean: Standing behind a wall with a small tank, (or a heavy, slow one) with your Railgun or Shaft, waiting for enemies to come by. But is that really fun? And do you get many crystals with it? And what about your score? In this guide I'm going to talk through some playing styles in Tanki.

Camping

Camping isn't very hard: You don't need very much skills, you might only learn how to time your Railgun a bit and aim good at far-away targets. Doesn't sound very interesting, don't you think? But why is it than, that so many players camp?
First of all, I think some players do actually care about their D/L ratio. I personally don't care about it, as there's no Hall of Fame anymore, where your D/L will be showed. Good campers will probably choose crowded maps, so that they'll have enough "victims" who get shot without knowing from where. Camping gives a good score, if done well. Second, it might help you get some crystals, but watch out: If you rank too fast and don't get all too much crystals, you'll find yourself with a pretty bad tank between all goodies. Campers will probably take lots of cover, that's why I'd recommend to upgrade your weapon first, if you're a camper. If you stand behind a wall or somewhere in the corner of the map, where nearly no one can, or does see you, you'll have more advantage of a strong gun. Also, campers will be defenders mostly, as I'm looking at the position of most campers.

Aggressive Attacking

Some people just can't stop attacking. Even if your own flag is behind brought to enemy base, they don't chase it: They simply try to get the enemy flag as well. And you know: "The best defence is attack." These people can have a very fast tank, or use medium tanks, to survive a bit longer on enemy base. I used this technique long ago as well, I kept attacking the enemy base in Silence II, and it gave me a good score, trying to kill as many defenders as possible, every life again. Aggressive attacking can give you a good D/L, but it didn't happen to me all too much. I mostly got killed before having a kill for about 3 times in a row, but then I was able to kill 4 defenders at once, grab the flag and try to run with it. If you're well at aggressive attacking, you'll have nice scores, and it will give you many crystals as well, as you capture flags to win the battle.

The Mid-Field

Trying to help defending giving the final shot to enemies running with your flag, sniping down enemy defenders to help your attackers: A mid-fielder is like an Isida: a team player. Or at least, that should it be, to be successful. Mid-fielding requires skill, you'll be in the open and between buildings, this is why mid-fielders should be able to change. Most mid-fielders will take medium tanks, as they can have more shots, while I find Hornet a very good mid-fielders tank as well. This is because with Hornet, you're small and fast, what gives you an advantage over your enemy mid-fielders. But keep in mind, they are stronger, so you'll have to play with attention. If you weaken you're playing, you'll be dead in a second.

Defending

Maybe the most important thing to have in a battle: good defenders. Without them, your flags would be grabbed and captured with ease. That's why it's a good choice to spend about 4 or even 5 tanks on defence in a 10 vs 10 battle. The defence should not only stop enemies from grabbing your flag, but also be the heart of your team: It should cover attackers coming into your base carrying the enemy flag, heal some mid-fielders if they come back because they're hit, simply said: The defence is very important. You should have your own part of the map in control, it gives stability to your team: They can go on places, they can have a break if they're going for a drink and so on. The defence might be best filled with some (annoying, very annoying) campers, and some people driving around, patrolling the base and the mid-field for upcoming attackers, so that they can warn the other teammates to get ready.

Slowly Attacking

This is another way of attacking: slowly trying to reach enemy base, hitting some defenders or just wait. And then, when you see a weak spot in your enemies defense, you drug your nitro, maybe an armor, and grab the flag, watching which way will be safe to get back to your own base. This is a pretty hard way of attacking, because it's very hard to be unseen all way until the enemy flag. But this is a very effective way of attacking. CON: You probably won't have many chances. In big maps you'll still get many points for capturing flags if you don't kill people, waiting for the good moment.and, with this way of attacking, because you only drug when you have a chance, you'll save much more drugs than with aggressive attacking. I also use this way sometimes, when I've been in the mid-field for a long time, unhitted. Than I simply wait until the enemy attacks, and choose the outer way to my base. You should try this out! It works very well!

These are some playing styles people use. I hope this helps you to fulfill your task in your team, or even in your clan!

Smoky is the gun of choice for takers who prefer dealing with their opponents with massive damage and stop them at the last minute from getting them to the base or just stopping them from taking the gold. Now a good Smoky player should always be on the move but if not Smoky can be also used for defending your base and stop them from capturing the flag. The good thing about smoky is that it can be for any heavy, light or medium hulls.

Pros and Cons

Pros

1) Fast reload.

2) Is cheap.

3) Critical's do a lot of damage.

4) Can know off an enemy's aim almost every time.

5) Even if you miss a shot it does not matter because of its fast reload.

Cons

1) Critical chance cannot be modified.

2) Damage Decreases with distance.

3) Cannot Damage multiple targets at once.

The Hull's that go well with Smoky

150px-Hull_wasp_m3.png

Wasp/Smoky- is a good combination. it can perform well in CTF mode because of its high speed, but it cannot perform well in DM and TDM modes is because of its negligible armor and can easily flip over with railgun. A lot of players tend to chose this combo annoying because of its critical hits and fast reload can save you from being killed

150px-Hull_hornet_m3.png

Hornet/Smoky- is a great combination for going on the attack and the defense. Works well with all game mode's and unlock's early.

150px-Hull_hunter_m3.png

Hunter/Smoky-The combination that you start when you are new to TO. You can actually survive longer then hornet because of its decent armor and speed can go both on the attack although since its speed is less you will have trouble's getting away from your enemy's. Unlocks late at m3.

150px-Hull_dictator_m3.png

Dictator/Smoky-A great combination if you like catching gold boxes and stop people from getting them this is your tank has enough armor to protect yourself and but lacks speed so getting away from your enemy's can be tough, Unlocks late at m3.

150px-Hull_vicing_m3.png

Viking/Smoky-A really stable hull work well with any gun and works well with all game mode's. Can survive much longer in DM mode's and CTF.

150px-Hull_titan_m3.png

Titan/Smoky- A great hull for those who want to move around the map but with a lot more armor goes well on defense and has a bit of speed so you can stay away from enemy fire.

150px-Hull_mammoth_m3.png

Mammoth/Smoky- A great combination to go on the defense. A choice for tankers who prefer to camp at one place to go on the defense.

How to become a good player with smoky.

Now a good smoky player must always be on the move and never stay in the same spot unless you have a heavy hull or the map is small. Smoky's critical hits and fast rate of fire can kill a heavy tank very quickly which i good for CTF mode, and if you were on a big map like stadium all hulls work's best with smoky. But in a small map like Noise it is best you use viking/hornet because that way you will be both on defense/offence. If you are using Smoky with wasp and you have a railgun chasing you try to go slow on corners to avoid being flipped over or try to eliminate him.

Tips on how to use Smoky against other hulls.

150px-Turret_smoky_m3.pngV.S150px-Turret_firebird_m3_2.png

If you were dealing against firebird and you have a medium/heavy a good tactic is to lay a mine in front of you just in case he gets up close. But if you had low health try using a first aid or double armor so you last longer and always wear a paint protect with the popular guns like firebird, thunder etc. A good paint is Loam or Zeus

150px-Turret_smoky_m3.pngV.S150px-Turret_twins_m3.png

Twins does have a chance to knock off your aim but since Smoky has a fast reload it doesn't matter because you will be knocking off his aim more often. But if he has a heavy hull and you cannot knock off his aim a best tactic against it is to use the Run and Hit tactic against it.

150px-Turret_smoky_m3.pngV.S150px-Turret_railgun_m3.png

For railgun it might be hard to aim beacuse it is a 50/50 chance to knock off each other's aim but since smoky has a higher reload and impact force you will have more chance of knocking off its aim.

150px-Turret_smoky_m3.pngV.S150px-Turret_isida_m3.png

Isida can actually drain your health very quickly but isida has one weakness which is range so if you are fast enough to get out of its range you will have a higher chance of winning that fight because of its critical hits.

150px-Turret_smoky_m3.pngV.S150px-Turret_thunder_m3.png

Its easy fighting against thunder because all you have to do is get up close on thunder so like you have to ram him and if he shots you will take damage but he will take damage also so as he keeps shooting you keep shooting him also so he is taking double the damage.

150px-Turret_smoky_m3.pngV.S150px-Turret_freeze_m3.png

There is only one weakness for freeze and that is range so stay far enough and he wont kill you.

150px-Turret_smoky_m3.pngV.S150px-Turret_ricochet_m3.png

Its hard for ricochet to hit a moving target so use the move and hit tactic and always hit its hull's corner that way he will miss shooting you.

150px-Turret_smoky_m3.pngV.S150px-Turret_shaft_m3_2.png

You might have less chance winning that gun fight because of Smoky's range but you can always knock off its aim to prevent getting hit but if you were in the map Rio then you have a chance of winning that gun fight

150px-Turret_smoky_m3.png V.S150px-Turret_hammer_m3.png

Hammer doesn't like it that it has less range so stay away from him and he wont kill you and since Smoky have a fast reload you will have more chance to knock off its aim if you he gets up close and dont forget that Hammer needs time to reload same as railgun do you have a good chance of winning that gun fight.

The Ultimate Guide to FIREBIRD

By: XOR36                                                               150px-Turret_firebird_m3_2.png

My Thoughts: Ah, Firebird, a turret overused in the low ranks, but rarely seen in the high ranks. One might wonder when reading this, why would Firebird, such worthy and mighty weapon be so rare in the high ranks. Well you see, Firebird is a turret similar to twins. Not as much by playing style, but by price and unlocked rank. Firebird is a weapon extremely cheap and easily played with in the m0-m1 ranks, but hard to maneuver and purchase in the m2-m3 ranks. This is mainly because of the large gap between m1-m2 (Master Sergeant-Major). During this time, most Firebirders lose faith in their weapon and move on. Not saying that it's a bad thing, and in fact I highly recommend it. However, many of you may not be well suited with the Firebird’s gameplay so, this gap will give you a chance to try out other weapons to best suit your fill. During this important part in your tanki career many of you will not be raking in crystals, and also will not be buying. Therefore, in your recruit-sergeant period, you have (hopefully) tested out most of the turrets in the game, so the warrant officer period will be the moment where you choose the turret that you will take (hopefully) to Generalissimo. Now, I'm not saying that you shouldn't buy other turrets/hulls as well, in fact you should, it's always good to have a backup, however, you will most likely have a main tank and use it for most of your career. So the question still remains, to Firebird or not to Firebird? (By the way, you will see my opinions/experience throughout this article)

Firebird History: Firebird was one of the few turrets which existed since the beginning of tanki. It has been far adored by players due to its unique burning effect and its unique gameplay on existing in Firebird. Ever since the rebalance and the creation of Freeze, a far more cheap and “effective” weapon than Firebird, Firebird has become much less popular.

Firebird Statistics: Firebird is most often a turret in the wrong hands, especially if you’re a recruit who just joined the game, scrolling through the garage and thinking, “Oh, a flamethrower sounds awesome!” Unlocked at recruit it’s extremely powerful, with whopping 13 damage per half second and powerful burn afterwards, it can kill a mammoth with just one release of its fuel. Its rotation speed and acceleration is slightly slower than freeze but still extremely fast. Its reload time and fuel consumption is still quite low, but with a turret so overpowered, it has to have some weaknesses. The problem with this is that once recruits get a hang of firebird, they play with it in all the wrong ways. The main problem I see with these Firebird users is that they use a light tank, find any opponent and ram them while shooting flames. Along with that, most Firebird users tend to be might I say…stupid? They use their entire fuel then…die. Along with that they don’t turn their turret at all, which I guess is okay since it’s a firebird, but a firebird’s main purpose (in my eyes) is the quick kill, and it’s hard to do so if you make full turns, kill everything you see, and die. This is why most people lose their Firebird and move on. But they will be missing out on the fun once they hit the major rank. The m2 modification for Firebird is just amazing, its pure destruction hidden inside a turret. The turret’s damage per tick (half second) increases from17, 7353 to 25, 8529! The m2 upgrade is the biggest upgrade that Firebird has ever seen! Along with that comes the added increased reload, turret turning speed, acceleration, etc. This is really when things get fun. By this point however, many tankers have moved on, and chose other turrets, but to you faithful Fire birders, congratulations, this is where the excitement starts. From here Firebird is well versed against even some Generalissimo battles. Hopefully you make it to the Commander rank from there. Once you’ve raked enough crystals for m3, you’re all set. Give the other players some shock by showing off your turret, then proceed to incinerate them. The m3 modification is also a force to be reckoned with, its increase is the second biggest upgrade to the turret, and its damage becomes much higher than freeze’s.  Here’s a table to show pretty much most of what I’ve said so far in much detail.

             Firebird.png

Pros:

·         High damage combined with burn

·         Extremely powerful in small maps

·         Burn hurts other players even after you die

·         High turret rotation speed

·         Hits through other tanks within your range

Cons:

·         Small Range

·         Low reload

·         Weak in large maps

·         Expensive

·         Large gap between m1-m2 modifications

·         Cone angle (angle of fire vertically) is considerably smaller than Freeze’s

Combinations:

·         Wasp-Fire: Not bad, the high speed allows you to reach others quickly and make it in time for the kill. However, the pesky railguns and shafts can one shot you easily. Not so good in DM/TDM but effective in CTF/CP game modes.

·         Hornet-Fire: Strong combo for CTF/CP. The high speed and the extra bit of health allows you to survive the railgun shot and capture the flag. Not so good in DMs, okay in TDMs.

·         Hunter-Fire: Great combo for all situations. The average speed and health allows you to reach enemies and survive railgun and shaft shots. Acts as a mid-fielder in CTF, Strong in small CP maps, Great in both DMs and TDMs, however the lack of high speed allows enemies to escape in some situations.

·         Viking-Fire: Just a better combo than hunter. Able to survive two railgun shots and one shaft shot, it’s slightly below average speed promotes aggressive head on battle. The lack of high speed allows enemies to escape in some situations. Acts as a midfielder in CTF, great in small CPs, Dominates in DMs and TDMs.

·         Dictator-Fire: An odd combo for firebird users. Dictator is a big target allowing many shafts and rail gunners to hit it easily. Firebird, also has no knockback so the extra height won’t help much either. Below average speed allows players to escape your reach however the extra armor might just be the thing to save your life. Acts as a midfielder in CTF, great in small CPs, Dominates in DMs and TDMs.

·         Titan-Fire: A combo that I wouldn’t recommend with Firebird. Simply because of the fact that its defense doesn’t make up for Firebird’s quickly-paced gameplay. Firebird doesn’t have the freezing effect to immobilize enemies so a faster hull would be recommended. However, in small maps, where escape may be harder, this combination may be a smarter choice. Acts as a defense and midfielder in CTF, Great in small CPs, Dominates in small DMs and TDMs.

·         Mammoth-Fire: Pretty much the same as mammoth but slightly more buff. As the slowest tanki in the game, it doesn’t match up with Firebird’s game play style. However, in small maps this combination will wreak havoc. It acts as a defense and midfielder in CTF, great in small CPs, Dominates in DMs and TDMs.

Tips for using Firebird:

  • In large maps stay in cover as much as possaible and scavange the area until you can find targets to kill easily

In maps like Serphouv/Stadium there will most likely always be a shaft/railgun ready to snipe you from faraway. To avoid this, travel along caves or stay in cover, if you find one of these tanks try not to get hit until after they have shot. This is because after one shot, their long reload prevents them from doing much harm until after you have finished them off.

  • Use your fuel wisely and always keep your eye on the fuel bar

As a recruit, I've had many moments where I'd finished off one tank, then ran out of fuel for the next tank. Try hitting all of them at the same time, or just don't engage them unless neccessary

  • Use the burn to your advantage and try not to use too much fuel, allow for the burn to finish your enemies

Adding on to the previous tip, allowing the burn to finish off your enemies really saves time and fuel

  • Play in small maps to make up for the limited range

To avoid traveling in cover completly, join small maps so you can reach other players easily. Also, in small maps like farm it's less likely to have a Shaft/Railgun then suppose a Firebird, Freeze or Isida.

  • Don't charge out to the open

Its never a good idea to be exposed to other tankers. As said in the first tip, as a firebird you should always be hidden. Its always annoying when you're dealing with one tank, then another tank spots you.

  • Always be on the move, a good Firebird is always looking for its next victim

This applies more to light tanks, however, Firebird is like an assassin, hiding undercover, traveling unseen, and most importantly, looking for its next victim.

  • Be smart and don't try to go for mammoths/titans, unless neccessary

Although you can kill them in one fuel release, don't try to kill mammoths/titans because it will just use up your fuel and you will probably get killed in the process

  • When drugging, use even less fuel because your burn does two times as much damage

A drugging firebird I have to say is one of the most overpowered things in tanki. If they get close to you then you're done. If you are one, then don't even bother to try and use your fuel, your burn should be able to take care of most things.

Final Words: Firebird is a truly unique turret to the game. It’s price and unlocked rank may keep others from picking it up again, but if handled correctly, this turret will bring to victory to many of your games!

Good Luck Tankers!

Does that mean only 3 entries get the prize? or does that mean top 3 entries of each guide?

That means only 3 entries will get the prize.

How to Smartly Use Supplies

                        History

The first supply to be introduced into Tanki was the health box, which restored your tank’s health.  Its icon was a syringe, which is where the term “Drugging” from.  Later, the other supplies were introduced: Double Armor, Double Damage, Nitro, and Mine.  When Isida was introduced, Double Damage was renamed Double Power.  The next change was to the Health Box, changing the way Health was restored.  Then came the “Smart Cooldowns” update the reform the approach to supply usage, as well as changing some of the supply names.  “Predictable Drops” changed the drop zones of supplies and showed where they dropped.  More recently, an option was added to Pro Battles allowing the disabling of Smart Cooldowns.

                        A Closer Look at Supplies

            Repair Kit

Restores 200 health points per second.  Lasts two seconds.

            Double Armor

Divides all damage received in half.  Lasts forty-five seconds.

            Double Power

Multiplies all damage you deal out by two.  Lasts forty-five seconds.

            Speed boost

Increases your hull’s speed by 30%.  Lasts forty-five seconds.

            Mine

When laid, a mine stays on the ground till run over, when it does 120-140 damage.  Lasts till your death.

                        Tactical supplies

Repair Kit            Double Armor         Double Power         Speed Boost          Mine

Repair Kit                 30                          15                       15                             0                   15

Double Armor            0                           15                       30                            15                    0

Double Power            0                           30                       15                            15                    0

Speed Boost              0                           15                        15                            15                   0

Mine                         15                          15                        15                            0                   15

The above chart shows how Smart Cooldowns work.  You may have noticed that you can activate certain supply combos simultaneously.  These combinations of supplies can be very useful in certain circumstances.

            Death Matches

Survival is key.  The Double Armor and Repair Kit combo is very good until you can get to a camping spot, where Double Power is great for raking in kills.

wer is great for raking in kills.

            Team Death Match

Similar to DM, but often you must drive a little while before confronting opponents.  So, Speed Boost is more helpful here, and Double Power is often the better choice than Double Armor, as there are friendly Isidas that can heal you.

            Capture The Flag

Three main roles in team play here: Attack, defense, and midfield.  Defense may want to go with Mines, Double Power, or Double Armor.

Midfielders should consider Mines in strategic locations, and the occasional Double Power.  It is often helpful to camp near drop zones!  Attackers should try to nab at least one dropbox on the way to the flag, and supplement it with their own garage supplies.

            Control Points

Really, it is up to where you want to be playing.  Up front capturing points?  Then maybe Double Armor and Repair Kit to help capture a point.  Controlling a point?  Mines or Double Power are very helpful.

                        Predictable Drops

With Smart Cooldowns it is impossible to activate all the supplies at once.  But, with Predictable Drops, one can gather supply boxes and supplement them with their garage supplies.  Doing so gives you a large advantage.  How do you manage this?  Plan ahead.  Drop boxes take from 8-10 seconds to fall, giving you enough time to reach them or plan supplies to capture that specific box.  For example, if you just spawned and you see a Double Armor box falling, make for that box and activate Double Damage.  Then you can activate Speed Boost and have all supplies activated!

                        On mines

In this section, I will be discussing Mines and how to use them.  Mines can be used offensively and defensively.  With the ability to destroy light hulls and severely damage medium hulls, Mines should not be underestimated.  Offensively, they can be dropped onto opponents as you jump over them, or by mining the enemy’s base.  Defensively, they are used to block paths to the flag, or laid while escaping with the flag.

                        Dealing with Druggers

This section is for everyone, supply user or not.  Active supply users are often a burden to gameplay.  This section will show how to effectively deal with these opponents.  First of all, keep in mind that supplies only boost certain parameters of a tank: damage, armor, and speed.  That means Druggers can still be flipped, reloading is still its normal speed, and their aim can still be deflected.  These are weakness you can exploit.  Second, when supply users use a Repair Kit, stop firing, because all the damage you deal during the healing period will be erased.  This is especially helpful when your turret is Firebird, Freeze or Isida, as your weapon can reload while waiting for the Repair Kit to expire.  Of course, there are some exceptions to this general rule.  The first is if you are using Twin, where reload doesn’t matter.  The second is if the Drugger you are facing is an M3 Mammoth, because their health is the same as the Repair Kit can restore.  Thus making all damage you deal during the healing period relevant.

Saving Up: How to Save Up ?

As I mentioned this before, saving up is a good way to earn many crystals and buy good equipment as soon as it's unlocked. You shouldn't buy Everything in your garage. You should save up and buy only 1-2 combinations. Here is example: I will buy Hornet and Railgun m0 and Forester Paint.I will play with it until M1 Hornet and Railgun are unlocked. Then I am going to buy Hornet and Railgun M1 and a good paint, probably Swash. Then I am going to wait until I reach Second/First Lieutenant. Then I am going to upgrade my Hornet and Railgun to M2 and buy a good paint, probably Tundra to be well protected against railguns and/or Sandstone so I can play XP Format battles. Then I am going to wait till I get unlocked Hornet and Railgun M3.Then i buy Hornet and Railgun M3 and probably Emerlad or even better paint. Then I am free to spend my crystals on anything I want as I have what I need: M3 combination.

That's it Tankers.

How to Attack

Hello! AceAgent here with a complete guide to attacking in Tanki Online. We’ve all been in a game where players are uncoordinated and try to steal flags by themselves, a player uses a weapon in a totally unorthodox role (ever seen a shaft try to take a flag?), or perhaps a lone tanker tries to invade an enemy camp without support! While most experienced players would pass this off as them merely being stupid or lacking in common sense, it’s often because they don’t know any better strategies. So in this article I will teach (or for some review) strategies that will be use in every game. I will cover how to maximize D/L in TDM, how to effectively steal flags or support the flag stealer in CTF, how to invade enemy-held control points in CP, how to hold your own in DM, and the combinations used for all of these.

TDM

TDM, probably the most predictable game mode of a war game, is the easiest to play. Why do I say that? It’s because it’s not near as complex as CTF or CP, and is considerably less stressful than DM where you play solo.

Hulls

Since the point of TDM is not speed like in CTF, stronger hulls are usually favored. However many skilled players are able to use light, medium, and large hulls to much the same effect. The most effective equipment ultimately depends on the map size. Generally in larger maps like Serpuhov or Dusseldorf, light or medium hulls like Hornet, Hunter, and Viking are desired (at M1 Hunter is the better choice because it has better health and speed). Although I’m sure no one relishes the experience of meeting a Mammoth in one of Dusseldorf’s alleyways. On medium maps like Rio or Silence, heavy hulls are used to much better effect, often able to camp or steadily advance on enemy positions with little assistance. In small maps, heavy or medium hulls equipped with a powerful medium or short range weapon can rack up kills and skyrocket their D/L with some skill.

Turrets

Contrary to popular belief, I personally don’t think there is ONE best weapon for TDM. Again, it depends on map size. I classify the weapons into four categories: short range, medium range, long range, and infinite range. Short range weapons such as Firebird, Freeze or Isida are best played in smaller maps or as support in groups. This is especially true for Isida which is very useful due to it’s healing. The medium ranged weapons are Twins and Ricochet. These are beautiful, all around weapons that can be effectively used in really any map (and are very powerful on Hunter). Smoky and Thunder, often called the most realistic of the turrets in Tanki, are also good all around. They’re especially powerful on Dictator, but can also be paired with Wasp for a very dynamic combination. Thunder’s splash damage is ideal for damaging multiple enemies and earning points for each one :D. At last we come to Railgun and Shaft, Railgun, like Smoky and Thunder, is more a all around weapon than a sniper like most people say, it is very versatile and really comes down to skill in a duel with another Rail. Shaft on the other hand is the true sniper of the game, it’s best if this gun stays back and snipes or camps in a discreet location on the enemy base. *note: Hammer has not been ingame long enough for me to give an educated analysis.

Combinations

Since turrets are what really do the business in this game I’ll be pairing up based on gun instead of hull.

  • Isida: An essential turret in TDM, it’s good with anything short of Dictator.

  • Firebird: Almost universally used with light hulls or Hunter, TDM is no exception.

  • Freeze: Since in TDM it won’t be used as a defender it’s best used with a light hull.

  • Twins: Like I’ve written above it’s a perfect match for Hunter.

  • Ricochet: In TDM it’s best with Hornet, Dictator, or the medium hulls.

  • Smoky: As a good all around turret it’s good with everything, but it’s definitely able to deliver more damage with a medium or heavy hull. (May I suggest Titan? It looks REALLY good!)

  • Thunder: See Smoky.

  • Railgun: Very popular with Hornet due to hornets balance of speed and health (and aesthetics), but is also commonly seen with Wasp and Hunter or Viking. I would not recommend pairing it with a heavy hull due to almost no maneuverability.

  • Shaft: Best paired with a heavy or medium hull, but if you’re confident in your team, a light hull can also be very good.

Strategies

  • When raiding the enemy base in groups Isidas are an essential support weapon, when you see your Isida is low on health try distracting a enemy and letting the Isida take it out because the Isida gains health while dealing damage.

  • Although rarely used, when attacking in a group you can bring along a Shaft who would fall behind and cover you.

  • Firebirds and Thunders are the best for attacking groups of enemies.

  • The turrets that are one-shot-per-reload such as Smoky, Thunder, Railgun, and Shaft should always be using the peek-a-boo tactic.

  • Ricochet often can destroy an enemy tank by itself in one clip; each shot, multiplied by 10 or 11 (how many shots there are in a clip) is usually enough to take out a slightly damaged Mammoth of the same modification.

--WIP--

--A Comprehensive Shaft Guide--

Introduction

The Shaft.  One of Tanki Online's most dangerous and renowned weapons, capable of dealing a whopping 260 amount! The only gun with two methods of shooting, and arcade, and the scope.  Able to knock out almost any tank, the Shaft is a feared weapon on the battlefield.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • The Shaft has a sniper mode.  This sniper mode can deal more damage than a Railgun or Firebird, all in one shot.
  • The Shaft can be put on almost any gun.
  • The M1 is unlocked at Sergeant-Major, and can easily kill M0 Hornet, M0 Wasp and M0 Viking.
  • An M1 Shaft Micro-Upgraded once in the Sniping Damage can one shot a full health M2 Hornet.
  • The Shaft scope can see through trees and shrubbery, allowing for a better hiding spot.
  • The Shaft can change different shot amounts.
  • One of the more aesthetically pleasing turrets.

Cons:

  • Reloading time after sniping takes an EXTREMELY long time.  After seeing you shoot, and enemy may come and ambush you before you have time to reload.
  • The laser update introduced a laser that revealed the sniping position of the Shaft players.  As a result, keep on the move, and only snipe when necessary.
  • When in sniping mode, the turret turns slowly.
  • Enemies can throw off your aim.  Turrets that cana do this include Ricochet and Twins.

Suitable Hulls: A Review on the Better Ones

Wasp: A Shaft mounted on Wasp is dangerous to both the enemy and itself.  While it is extremely mobile, making it easier to get to the chosen camping spot once you spawn, Wasp has low health, making it easy for enemies to kill you.

Rating: 5/10

Hornet: One of the most popular combos on the battlefield, it is an extremely hard to spot and is an effective combo.  The lower health compared to heavier hulls like Viking and Titan can be a disadvantage.

Rating: 7/10

Viking: A heavier hull that provides more health and can survive on the battlefield.  M0 Vikings are hard to kill at lower ranks, yet M1 Vikings can be two-shotted by M1 Shafts.

Rating: 7.5/10

Good Maps for Shafts:

Rio: many lower rank players (read noobs :D) often camp on the main roads.  The sight of the lasers of a couple of Shafts covering the roads scare enemies into finding other ways to attack.

Silence: A semi-decent map for Shafts.  There are not as much spots as Rio or Serpuhov, but fairly easy to camp on the main ramps.

Stadium: A map basically designed for Shafters, a suggestion would be to use a Medium or Heavy Hull, such as Mammoth or Titan, and snipe where you spawn.

Paints (Note: All paints discussed are the ones with more protection, not 5% onesC):

  • Lead: A cheap paint at 2000 crystals, and a decent one with 18% Protection.  At lower ranks, it can help save a Hornet by a little bit of health, and can allow short-range attackers to close the gap to attack the Shaft.  Better for lower ranks, although some use it as high as Warrant Officer 4
  • Dirty: 17,500 Crystals are needed to obtain this paint, unlocked at Warrant Officer 1.  A common paint on Railgun players who love to take out campers, this paint has 26% Shaft protection, and a measly 8% against Railgun.
  • Corrosion: One of the uglier paints, unlocked at Warrant Officer 3, this paint costs 34,500 Crystals, and starts out at 15% protection.  When fully Micro-Upgraded, this paint can protect up to 23%.
  • Winter: Unlocked at Lieutenant Colonel for 102,500 Crystals, this paint can provide 38% protection.  When fully upgraded, it can provide 50%.

Smart Cooldowns

This guide will help you with the most effective use of supplies with Smart Cooldowns, and taking advantage of Predictable Drops.

All supplies can be classified into two tiers.

Primary tier and Secondary Tier

The primary tier of supplies comprises of:

1)      Double Armour

2)      Double Power

3)      Speed Boost

The secondary tier of supplies comprises of:

1)      Repair kit

2)      Mines

Following the new update Tanki Developers have brought us, is that all three primary supplies can be activated for a solid 45 seconds. Moving on.

Time and relation of supplies

Since we all now know that our primary supplies can be activated for 45 seconds, but what effect does having one supply activated have on another?

On this matter, we will first talk about the secondary supplies, and then the primary supplies.

From secondary supplies:

Repair Kit

The repair kit can heal your tank at a rate of 200 HP per second, and it lasts for a maximum time of 2 seconds, during which it will continue to heal your tank.

Once you activate your repair kit, you will be unable to reactivate it in the next 30 seconds you are alive. When we see its effect on other supplies, we see that if you activate your repair kit, you will be unable to add Double Armour, Double Power, and you will be unable to place a mine for the next 15 seconds.  Using a repair kit, however, has no effect whatsoever on speed boost.

Double Armour

The name is somewhat self-explanatory. Activating this supply will double the total health of your tank for the upcoming 45 seconds your tank is alive.

Once Double armour has been activated, you cannot equip Double Power for the next 30 seconds.  Whilst equipping double armour, you will also be unable to equip a Speed Boost for the next 15 seconds. Equipping double armour does not affect when you can place a mine, or use a repair kit.

Double Power

The name, again, is self-explanatory. Activating this supply will double the total damage-per-shot for the next 45 seconds your tank is alive.

Once Double Power is activated, you cannot equip Double Armour for the next 30 seconds. Whilst equipping double power, you will also be unable to equip a Speed Boost for the next 15 seconds. Equipping double power does not affect when you can place a mine, or use a repair kit.

Speed Boost

Speed Boost gives you a 30% speed boost for 45 seconds.

Once you activate speed boost, you will be unable to activate any other primary supply for the next 15 seconds.

Mines

Mines can do damage when placed. Placed mines will disappear when the planter of these mines is either destroyed, or has left the battle.  The damage of mines ranges from 120 to 240 HP.

Once a mine is placed, you cannot place another mine for the next 30 seconds. You cannot use a health kit, or equip Double Armour and Double Power for the next 15 seconds. It has no effect on Speed Boost.

Prices

Repair Kit: 150 Crystals

Double Armour: 50 Crystals

Double Power: 50 Crystals

Speed Boost: 50 Crystals

Mine: 50 Crystals

Effective Usage

Now that we are familiar with the traits, characteristics and all the other properties of supplies, we must learn the most effective use of them during combat.

Combinations

The first supply you would want to equip would be any of the primary supplies. Preferably, you should equip Double Armour, or Double Power at first.  15 seconds later, you will be able to equip your Speed Boost. This means that you will be able to equip 2 supplies at once for the next 30 seconds. The point of equipping Double Armour or Double Power before Speed Boost is to have enough health to survive incoming enemies, or to destroy them as quick as possible before you can equip your Speed boost.

Your Requirement

Above anything that matters, you must know your requirement. Are you in a CTF and require capturing flags? Or are you in a DeathMatch and you require to rack up kills with ease?

Knowing when to use what

To be the most effective player on the battlefield, you must know what supplies go with your hulls and turrets. If you have a turret with a high damage and impact, but takes a long time to reload, you require a heavy defense, and a hull with moderate to high speed to move around the map, away from the opponent. This way, your hull or turret can suffice for the use supplies unavailable at that moment.

Split Second Decisions

There are often moments when you are in a heavy gunfight, and all supplies are available for you. However, your health is too low for any supply to be effective. If you use a health kit before your supplies, they will become unavailable for you for the coming 15 seconds. However, if you use your Primary Supply (either Double Armour or Double Power) you can also equip your repair kit. After equipping your primary supply, wait for further and within a moment, activate your repair kit. As small of a difference this may make – this can be a matter of getting away with a flag, or racking up a long kill-streak.

Predictable Drops

Moving on to this segment of the guide, we will talk about Predictable drops, a new feature added to the game, its use and advantages that can be attained from it.

Its Importance

Predictable drops help you know where a supply may drop. Once you are close enough, you will see a large sign on the floor of the map. Whichever supply may be marked, that supply will fall onto the mark. Say you are on a map that you have not played before. With the help of predictable drops, you will be able to use the supplies on the ground for your advantage by easily learning the drop zones of supplies.

How it helps

Supply drops, and ‘drugs’ (supplies which you can equip) have worked together since a long time. You can get all three supplies at the same time. This means that you can have a heavy defense, whilst having this, you can have a massive speed boost to get away with the flag and have a heavy offensive damage to clear out all your enemies that lay helplessly under the iron-fist of your indestructible tank. (Of course, they will only be helpless for 45 seconds, after which they will take every chance of vengeance over you).

The application

Now that you finally know how supplies that drop, and drugs that can be equipped go together, you must learn how to get all of them. This will not be an easy task if you do not know what to do, since everyone else will also be fighting to make their way to the supplies.

Step 1

Know the Drop zones. Take a tour of the map and see where the supplies drop.

Step 2

Look for shortcuts, terrains, and possible routes. This step usually works for CTF battle modes. You should look for the shortest routes, while keeping in mind the safety. Look for a route with maximum supply drops.

Step 3

Choose the supplies you need to equip. Say; you are en route to the enemy base and on the way, there is a Speed Boost and a Double Armour. Wait till you have pick up both supplies, and then use your Double Power. The reason we use this supply at last, is to make it last the longest.

Conclusion

As a conclusion, I’d say that if you follow all of these instructions, you will be able to conserve your Supplies and receive the maximum output from your supplies.

Happy Tanking! Tankers.
