Tankers! This game keeps evolving. Today marks the release of a new, exciting, idea. Let’s look into it in more detail!
 


A little Artillery 'Story'

 

Tankers, Artillery has been suggested many times, by many different people. Old, young, tall, and small - it doesn't matter who you are, especially when something as unique as Artillery is weeks from being created. It has been spotted on the forums, and many people are talking about it. I'll let you into a little secret here, my buddy told me that there is a rumor and there are ancient ruins of a weapon similar to the Artillery weapon. The field detectives studying the weapon say that the stats are backwards and it is a really messed up turret. Finally we have come to the 21st century; over 100 years since the ruins were discovered. At last we are going to attempt to re-create the historians version of Artillery - but correcting their stats, balancing it out for gameplay.

( NOT A TRUE STORY )

 

Area of Probability

 

The area would be about the size of eight wasps in a circle motion. So eight would be in a row going left to right, then eight would be in a row going up an down. If you need more explanation please discuss in the comments.

 

Splash Area

 

The splash area would be half of the probability area; meaning where ever the bullet lands the splash will effect for the size of four wasps around the originating point of the bullet. If you need more explanation please discuss in the comments.

 

Pro's (good points)

 

Medium-range

Splash damage

Wide splash radius

Able to hide behind builds and shoot over them

Medium DIRECT damage to tanks (M0 40-70)

 

Con's (bad points)

 

Low damage when NOT direct (M0 10-30)

Slow reload time

Slow shot speed

Slow turret turning speed

Bad aim (an area of possibility when aiming)

 

Artillery Stats

 

The only stat that I can currently give is that this weapon would shoot one 'shell' (bullet/shot) per 10-14 seconds (that isn't even a set time range yet). I feel that many people are confused and that it is a 'Rocket Launcher' well no - it is a 'Mortar'. Anyways I can't really give any stats at the moment as it is the developers decision on how to keep it balanced, even the good and bad points are subject to change. I will try my hardest to keep everyone updated with stats and if I get any notice from the developers of the game!

 

Artillery Art

 

Currently for a school project I am drawing several versions of this new Artillery weapon idea. Once again, I will keep everyone updated with the art of it. Remember, I am not a developer or graphic artist so everything on arts is subject to change.

What do you think of a rocket artillery that fires a salvo high up and rains them down in a arc with tracer (higher level ones get faster rockets and more of them, along with the regular damage and stuff) I think this would be an epic gun and it stays true to your artillery idea, anyways i think it would change gameplay to be more fluid with any artillery :)

What do you think of a rocket artillery that fires a salvo high up and rains them down in a arc with tracer (higher level ones get faster rockets and more of them, along with the regular damage and stuff) I think this would be an epic gun and it stays true to your artillery idea, anyways i think it would change gameplay to be more fluid with any artillery :)

Yeah that'd be cool, if they added it, it would have to be really low damage. It'd be similar to the new Shotgun since there would be so many raining rockets, although the damage would have to be a lot less since there would probably be more...if that is what you mean.

I think a direct hit should be painful (like you said) but inaccuracy would be its balancing factor. what do you think of that? along with a long visible flight a wise player could dodge them.

I'm so happy someone took the time and effort into making a detailed topic about this. I think that a proper artillery turret should be added to the game. I think that when you press space, you should get an above view of the map. If anyone has played, or seen videos of artillery from WoT, thats what I mean, exactly like that. 

 

Maybe another thing, it can't shoot directly behind buildings, realistically. There has to be some nerf that stops it raining hell everywhere. I hope that the devs REALLY consider this and make a concept.

Yeah, that is the unique part it adds. That is why there is a large splash area with little damage taken from splash. Most damage would be dealt using splash damage as it could take 3-4 seconds to deliver the shots.

First off, thank you so much for realizing the time I took in this. Secondly, yeah the top down view is basically what I was talking about, and how Shaft has a 'aim' I guess you could say the 'aim' for this would be shown on the map and it would be an area of probability. And yep your exactly right, you can't shoot directly behind another building or shoot down to someone that is directly on the other side of the build of you taking cover with the building.

I guess thats up to the Devs but you should google images of the MLRS. They would just steal the rocket battery off the back and shorten some and it  would look pretty awesome. Do you have conventional artillery like the M777 or what did you have in mind originally?

Yeah, I'll check out the image part on Google. I will be bringing home my sketch book so I can share some images that I had in mind for the Artillery. Like I said I will probably get some new ideas for it so it will probably be redrawn a couple of times.

Cool, and like that other guy said, thanks for making a legit topic about artillery, the game has nothing like it and it would be very cool.

i just like rockets lol, any type of artillery would make me happy though, consider rounds like napalm (firebird effect), emp, smoke screen, flashbang, chemical (hurts the crew), and things like that.

I added some more ideas to my post, i thought of them after I sent it.

the fact that it shoots over walls is op. i dont see how it could be made fair

That is why it takes 4-6 seconds to deliver the shot and it has to be a DIRECT hit to do much damage at all. The splash damage is low but it has a wide range. Also that is why there is an area of probability the size of three wasps line up in a row.

If you ask me, TO needs artillery wep. Besides rocket launcher, we need weapon with blind-shot into air, I think. Like, you hold the space for distance that bullet will travel thru the air. Also you may only move the turret up and down, not in side.

 

What do you think?
