Let's Talk About Hammer...(Guide/Review)

Ok, first off, this is my first time writing a guide on anything like this, so don’t be surprised when you come across the 500th error. This is really just writing practice for myself so feel free to take everything with a grain of salt.

Short range, even shorter history:

The idea for a Shotgun themed turret was first publicly announced in 2013, Here. Though it was only mentioned briefly at the end of the article, and shed no light on its current characteristics, such as extremely limited range and three shots ‘till reload feature. There was no public announcement involving Hammer until Video Log issue 24, in which Hammer was shown, but with a different design and no name, it was released much earlier than expected, appearing in game roughly around 17/12/2014.

Stats:

I find Hammer’s statistics to be rather interesting, and curious in more than a few ways. For example, Hammer has one of the highest impact forces of any turret in the game, so of course its just begging to be taken out for a few Parkour stunts, (especially with the release of the new Parkour mode), however I fail to see of how this is of aid to anybody just trying to capture a flag or rack up a nice ple of points in DM/TDM, and seeing as this is really only one of two stats that Hammer really excels at, combined with its incredibly short range, I think its fair to say that Hammer is not exactly the most versatile turret in the world. Though as an added note, its loud shotgun sound combined with a big explosion, would make for a pretty neat entrance.

Sooo...What do you do with it?:

Good question, my short answer would be, “Ram something then punch the spacebar ‘till you've fired all your rounds” But that’s purely based off of glancing over its stats, and since this is a scientific article, we’re gonna do this the scientific way: Processes of elimination.

Possible Strategy #1: Sniper:

Obviously this wouldn't work, mostly just due to its range, with one of the shortest ranges in Tanki history, how on earth can you be a sniper if you can only fire at something from point blank range? In all honesty, there really is no reason to think about this any further.

Possible Strategy #2: The old “Ram ‘em smash ‘em and bash ‘em”:

This is by far one of the simplest strategies, basicly you simply arm yourself with a relitivly speedy hull such as hornet or wasp, and charge into the enemys midst(Barbaric war cries are optional). In many circumstances this is actually a viable plan of attack, and even if it doesn't work(And trust me, 80% of the time it doesn’t), admit it - It really is fun, fun, but stupid.

So thats the end of my completely unscientific, horrible terrible no good guide(Anybody get that reference?) and even if it is terrible, I sure had fun writing it, and I hope you have fun reading it. Gentle writing critique is welcome.

Have you tried it out?

And I have used it on my alt account, and its a WO3 and I have M0 and I gotta say, its good even at M0.

You should try it out for yourself then give an opinion.

But pretty good guide

And a side note, should've posted in the "Gameplay'" section

It might feel OP first, but it isn't really, if you compare it to some other weapons, like Thunder, Railgun and Smoky. And I was gonna say something else, but forgot :D

Hi all,

I opened this post because i want to talk about hammer and tell you my opinion about the new gun: Hammer.

I couldn't try it on the test server so i don't know how it is at m3 and with micro upgrades so i am trying it out now on the official server of the game.

When i first bought it i thought "A railgun with an autoloader, what could i want more than this?" but then i got in the first game and was just dying and dying and dying because i was using it at short range but just unloaded 1-2 shots on the enemy and then couldn't get away.

After some time i just abandoned it in the garage and started using wasp and firebird, this combination gave me an idea about how could i make the new weapon work so i got back to garage, mounted hammer on the wasp and started playing it as i was using a firebird: stay hidden until you see an enemy alone, get out, unload the clip on him while driving around him and then go away from the enemy if he is still alive.

Finally i got some good results on it and now it is one of my favorite turrets in the game.

Not many people are using hammer, and this is for good reason, because hammer has several faults. I will outline some of its problems and see if you agree.

1st. Hammer is too much like railgun. I think the developers wanted to make a gun appealing to railgun users. Hammer has the same reload time as railgun, and takes away as much as railgun, just in two shots.

2nd. Hammer just isn't good enough. You fire your three shots, then you get killed, and you can't stop it.

3rd. Hammer is expensive- it is about the 2nd most expensive gun overall, so not many people want to spend loads of crystals on a new gun that has lots of downfalls.

4th. Hammer has no special function. Every other gun has a special function- fire has burning effect, freeze has freezing effect, isida has its self healing function, twins has double barrels and constant firing, smoky has the lightning function, rico has richocet ability, railgun has a  piercing ability, sniper gun has sniper mode and thunder has splash damage. The up coming machine gun has the effect where you can turn your turret and keep firing. Hammer has none- possibly a bit of splash damage, but this is the same as thunder, and comes with a gun that really isn't good enough, for the other 3 reasons listed above.

I feel that I won't buy hammer for these 4 reasons. Its mechanics, lack of a special ability, and cost puts it near the bottom of the guns list- it needs a rethink. I hope machine gun is better.

If you liked this short review, give it an up arrow.

:tank: - he's a clever man- doesn't have hammer

Hello!

As you have given some feedback about Hammer and covered faults, I suggest you post this in the "Let's Discuss Hammer" topic rather than in Off topic discussion - this section is for topics not related to Tanki which this one is.

If I post it here, people will read it. Nobody reads posts on the 1millionth page of those topics

reload of m4 hammer is 4 seconds for the whole clip, not exactly a railgun...

i get 2+ DL with m1 on my alt

When you add on the reload time between shots, it is very close. You can't deny that it is rather like rail gun though- shoot off your shots and hide is the tactic used with both guns.

No, they will be read. You have to post in the correct sections of the forum.
