No, he hadn't. That's why it's inside his tank and floating up showing that he got it. If you would read the quote, you would know that he said himself that a lag can make you miss a gold.

I think this is a great idea, the only problem that seems to surface again and again is the lag issue.

If you could come up with a different ways that the box is dropped without causing too much lag, then the #1 problem will be solved.

 

Example: #1 Instead of a plane flying overhead, why not make it a helicopter? (something that stays in one place)

Example #2 A drone would work also, one that appears over the drop point and drops the Gold Box from a compartment.

 

(I'm not sure if the rotors from the helicopter or the drone would cause lag)

 

I do agree with , I think that if you are lagging when the Gold falls, you have less of a chance of getting it.

I just hope that we can find a way to have an animation and not lag, it would be cool.

Only long enough to drop the Gold, then it will dissapear.

As for the drone, it would be a little bigger than the Gold.

drone maybe good but helicopter will be longer in the skybox than the plane

Why would the plane fly through quicker? If the Heli would disappear right after it dropped the Gold, the plane would have to fly super quick to beat that. :)
