Suggestion for new tank: Spotter

Recommended Posts

Much like the military does, why not have a forward area spotter who can call in an artillery strike?  While the spotter could be either on foot or in a light vehicle (Jeep or Hummer), their "artillery" would not necessarily be visible to gamers...only the spotter would.  The artillery batteries would be off screen and not eligible for destruction by tanks...only the spotter can be killed.

Just as with a hull and turret, you can have upgradable attributes such as:

Number of projectiles per volley.

Strength of projectiles.

Type of projectiles (incendiary, freeze, high explosive, armor piercing, EMP)

Type of camoflague instead of paints (urban, desert, snow, darkness, base colors to blend with game structures, etc.)

Reload speed

Speed of strike from time called to time on target.

Speed of spotter on foot or spotter vehicle.

Since the spotter, or "ghost" as I like to call it (H/T to Starcraft Terran Ghost) will need to be small, and since military spotters are extremely difficult to see, perhaps a weakness would be that once the strike is called for, the camoflague levels drop for a certain period of time, in which during that time if the spotter is seen and destroyed by enemy, the artillery strike is defeated.  Or the spotter could be using a laser, much like shaft, that remains lit until the strike, thereby giving away spotters position.

Naturally, a clear line of sight must be maintained.  If LOS is broken, so is the volley.

You play WoT, don't you? (That's not necessarily a bad thing. I play it.)

The main reason that this is pointless is that most of Tanki's maps are so small that a normal person can see from one end of the map to the other. Tanki has small maps. A Hornet can usually drive from one end to the other in a few seconds. There's not enough space to put in mechanics concerning camouflage and visibility.

Agreed, but have you visited Dusseldorf yet?

LOL

"...most of Tanki's maps..."

Yeah, I play that map rarely. It usually lags pretty bad with 40 players on it.

Same reason I don't play on it.

Maybe when I get a better PC.......

The turret that comes already quite close to this idea is the Shaft.

Even the laser pointer is already there.

Big difference is that you shoot directly from the tank and not from an artillery battery.

The effect of destruction is more or less the same.

Put the Shaft on a mobile hull like Hornet and go spotting! ;)

Do you ever heard of Düsseldorf and Berlin?!?

Actually no, I do not play WoT, just thought it would be a cool idea.  And yes, a hornet or wasp could get to other side of map quickly.  But my idea is for the spotter to actually be a very small "hull" so to speak.  Even on foot.  Using stealth to move around, avoid getting turned into roadkill by a tank, and very hard to see by the enemy.  As for the mechanics, well, mine was just an idea.  If it is liked, then that is for the developers to work out.  For the small size of maps, the maps become very big to a "hull" that is 1/10th the size of a hunter or hornet.  It would be a very vulnerable player, but also a very lethal one.

Man, I could drive over a Hull that small with my killer Mammoth. :D B)
