Open testing of the mouse controls!

Tried both modes: windowed and full screen:

Normally with keyboard I always play full screen, so I took off with this mode.

Mouse sensitivity is definitely needed here!

It took just a few minutes of playing to get a slight nausea...

The image/screen becomes much to "shaky".

The only benefit in comparison to normal keyboard controls could be for some

players the superfast spectator like cameraview you get with the mouse.

I rather stick to the more gradually zooming of the keyboardcontrolled camera.

Than I tried the windowed mode. This one will become more popular I guess.

Especially beginners in Tanki Online will benefit from the "aiming circle".

Where you point at, you shoot at: horizontally that is...

Beginners only have to learn the rocking/tipping "trick" and they can quickly

become pretty good shooters...all able to turn their turrets for a change... ;)

There is a catch! The camera only works in one direction.

In which I mean from the front of your hull forwards and around 90 degrees to both sides.

If you turn your turret further the camera doesn 't follow anymore.

So you need to turn the complete hull to see what 's beyond you.

That is often totally wasted time in a combat situation.

With the standard keyboard controlled camera you can turn the camera and view

completely and independent from your hull.

So the rear of the hull than becomes your front and you have to switch the direction you want

to drive to in your head:

that 's not easy at all for a beginner, but crucial for advanced gameplay!

"Conclusion": the windowed mode controls seems the most promising IMO, but there

better be something implemented that makes, when the "aiming circle" passes

-90 degrees to the left and + 90 degrees to the right, the camera view shift from the

front of the Hull, to the rear of the hull.

If it stays like this and beginners only learn to drive their hull into one direction

they will never obtain the same skills as "old" keyboard users and for future battles to come

it would be nice to face good competition and no easy kill "one-way drivers".

1. No. Trust me, I tried to do that. It doesn't work as good as you expect it.

2. Well... no... You see, we don't really want mouse controls to be superior to keyboard controls. Besides, shots doesn't go exactly to the center of your coursor.

So hard for laptop users as it is hard to press down on the touchpad. Good for PC's or laptops with a plug in mouse :)

I found a bug with the Full-Screen mode:

If you don't press "Allow" when the browser asks you if it's OK to have full-screen controls, the mouse aiming doesn't work at all.

Also, without full screen, the camera doesn't follow the Turret, it follows the Hull.

(I don't know if that's a bug or not, but I really found it annoying.)

There is a bug yes... I couldn't understand fully, but there is.

Second one isn't bug.

right handed players will have to use control keys as they control the mouse with their right hand

  W

ASD

Players usually know each control very good.

Tankers!

Today we invite you to take part in the first open testing of the mouse controls!

Two control options are available for testing:

  • In windowed mode, the camera follows the hull, while the aiming cursor on the screen determines the direction you are firing at. To switch to the usual mouse cursor for using the menu, press and hold the right mouse button.
  • In fullscreen mode, the turret turns in the direction where the camera is pointed, which is closer to the traditional keyboard controls. Holding the right mouse button blocks the turret’s turning and gives you an ability to look around without turning the turret. To switch to the usual mouse cursor for using the menu, press and hold the TAB key.

In both modes, you shoot by clicking the left mouse button, and use the mouse wheel to adjust the camera view. You can only turn your turret left and right in the new control modes. Vertical aim has remained automatic.

Switching between mouse and keyboards controls is possible anytime, with a right click or pressing turret control keys on a keyboard.

You can join the open testing here. Make sure you return to this thread to share your impressions!

Good update.

Though it requires time to master it.

It would have been much easier if mouse controls were available when i started playing tanki now i am more comfortable

With keyboard since it's learning curve was very steep  so i will pass on the mouse and those starting to play tanki

I think will enjoy it.

It is a very good idea but it kinda works as it should only for turrets that rotate fast like firebird. With firebird (as an example) in windowed mode it's ok, works pretty good (but the camera is pretty confusing, there should be a setting to whether or not to follow as in fullscreen mode), in fullscreen mode the camera follows up pretty weird and it's confusing to rotate, not see your tank but think your turret moved instantly and shoot like you hit the target. That's the case for fast turning turrets. For slow turning turrets (such as railgun) it's much  more worse, in windowed mode you can live with it, but it's unsuporttable in fullscreen mode.

What you should do for fullscreen mode is limit the turning speed(of the camera) for every turret (or make a setting to make it as normal), for example, firebird turns fast, and when you move your mouse, have something to show were you move and move the camera with the firebird aswell. For slow turning turrets it should be a very usefull feature, and the crosshair is good for fullscreen mode aswell.

Overall, the idea is good but it desperately needs some finishes for it to be effective and possibly attracting new players.
