Open testing of the mouse controls!

After having tried Firebird in the fullscreen mode, here is what I have to say summed up in one word: vague.

Have you ever messed around with the flight simulator on Google Earth? One of my favorite 3D "games" until I found TO. Controlling the plane with the mouse was easy as pie, simply because there was a visual reference. It was nothing more than a green arrow in the center of the screen, yet you always knew where the mouse was and how it related to center. A simple, green Cartesian plane with a small dot or something for the mouse would help the fullscreen mode immensely.

Test is being online for a while and we got some news..

1. Windowed mode with aiming cursor will be changed. We are going to try out looking back with RMB and there will be some sort of a laser pointer from turret to make newbies familiar with vertical auto aiming in the game. You still won't be able to look left and right. This is technical limitation of windowed mode.

2. Fullscreen mode is going to stay the way it is with some bugs fixed and small tweaks in camera speed, but we are going to change Shaft sniper mode considerably. New aiming is going to be much more comfortable and more familiar to FPS players.

3. I am afraid we can not give you obvious options to settings menu. You won't be able to change mouse moving speed and stuff like that for a while. Current interface is strictly limited. But we are certainly going to add these options with Unity version of the game.

am i the only one who  dos'ent use wasd keys to move?

If you're using the arrow keys you're probably using your right hand. Most of us have played some kind of game before coming to tanki, and many of these require us to use mouse also. It is immosible to hit space+move with arrow keys+ use mouse at the same time. But it is possible with WASD. With mouse control using arrow keys will be awkward. You'd either have to use your left hand on arrows or move the mouse to the left side. At least you don't have to hit space though. ;)

laser pointer? Maybe, but it will be so hard to aiming for long range.

Again shaft? Are you(all of you) really decided that what to do with shaft? Making shaft like a "zoom-shoot-er"?

thanks...  :)

Man, you want me to share thoughts? Well, here:

Server is unavailable because it is under maintenance. Sometimes: Please, enter your invite code and keep it.

This is open testing, right?

ALso, if anyone here can email help@tankionline.com, ii am missing my account Healer_9000.  Well, good luck with the test.

I did get on one night, and what I think of the mouse controls:

It is kinda weird with the aim, your cursor goes across the screen, but the turret is still turning. Once I get on again, I will have more thoughts.

Mouse control has superior environment spotting abilities!

This gives it a great advantage over keyboard ontrols.

I have just seen videos about it by now, so I can't give feedback on the mouse control itself.

But I see an other issue that seems very important to me:

mouse control users can "look around" themselfes increadible fast, and their "looking speed" is not linked to their turret speed.

This gives them a GREEEEAT advantage (yes, really that great).

I started this game as a freezer and this is a fast spinning turret.

It gives me the oprtunity to play very tactical as I can simply look around and I have an idea of my whole surroundings.

Then I learned railgun and the first thing I niticed was, that I am blind.

The turret turns so slow, that usefull spotting and looking around me (while driving towards a target) is not easy. I have much less information about the battlefield.

I really lost the advantage of beeing informed.. and was more often shot from the back.

I have no solution for this at the moment.. but I wanted to point it out. maybe someone else has a idea about it.

Have you considered mouse control as pure preplacement of the X-Y-C keys?

How it could work:

- The camera always follows the turret, like now.

- You have a small area on the screen, where your mouse can move in.. this area is divided in three vertical sections (stripes).

Your turret is always pointing at the central of the stripes

- Moving the mouse aim into the left stripe will will rotate the turrelt left, moving the mouse in to the right stripe will rotate the turret right

- the borders between

- the sections don't need to be visible.. just lock the mouse in in such an area. the rest will come naturaly to the user

improvement:

if the border between the stripes is

-> not sharp (move over the edge and it moves, move one pixel back and it stops),

-> but smooth (moving close to stripe boarders makes turret move slow, getting faster when mose is full in the stripe)

then the handling would more suit a human way of acting and thinking.

Benefits

- the tank feels like with keayboard controls

- you don't have to learn to wait for the aim to get green until your turret reached the target.. you can focus on the battlefield

- there is no "need" to move the mouse over the table, get it off, place it back and move again to the right... just stay in "right stripe" and wait for your turret.

Plz. make an option in the setting to enable and especially completely disable mousecontrols!

Just had to leave a good Polygon battle, that I was already playing for ten minutes:

I entered my garage to switch from hull, but when I returned I had lost control

over my other hull completely. Never happened before.

This was in a normal gameplay, AFAIK I didn 't enter the server where you can test the mouse controls.

Even if I accindentally did, I shouldn 't have lost my keyboard controls this way.

Tried several things but the hull didn 't respond properly anymore to the keyboard controls.

Will not go to the garage again during a battle as long as this update is tested: that 's for sure.
