Open testing of the mouse controls!

Have you considered mouse control as pure preplacement of the X-Y-C keys?

How it could work:

- The camera always follows the turret, like now.

- You have a small area on the screen, where your mouse can move in.. this area is divided in three vertical sections (stripes).

Your turret is always pointing at the central of the stripes

- Moving the mouse aim into the left stripe will will rotate the turrelt left, moving the mouse in to the right stripe will rotate the turret right

- the borders between

- the sections don't need to be visible.. just lock the mouse in in such an area. the rest will come naturaly to the user

improvement:

if the border between the stripes is

-> not sharp (move over the edge and it moves, move one pixel back and it stops),

-> but smooth (moving close to stripe boarders makes turret move slow, getting faster when mose is full in the stripe)

then the handling would more suit a human way of acting and thinking.

Benefits

- the tank feels like with keayboard controls

- you don't have to learn to wait for the aim to get green until your turret reached the target.. you can focus on the battlefield

- there is no "need" to move the mouse over the table, get it off, place it back and move again to the right... just stay in "right stripe" and wait for your turret.

Your so intelligent :D

the mouse controls should follow the same idea as the z and x (or < >) keys. There shouldn't be a different way (i.e. the "camera follows the hull" mode) to control the tank. You said yourself in the V-Log that you want it to be as equal as the keyboard tankers, please follow through with this promise!

I don't like the mouse controls, if one was to be shooting with spacebar ad click by accident, their turret will move away form the target, putting them in a bad spot to die.  Also, if you are turning you turret, your game perspective does not always move with it, causing you to shoot blindly. One more thing I would like to add is that most right hand players might have trouble with this. If their right hand is on the mouse, they will be forced to use their left hand to control their tank's movement.  One thing i do like about mouse controls is that when you can see  a target, you can adjust your shooting to the sharpest shot possible.

That's my review, have fun guys.

Not like it, already learned how to play, I'm good. But if i told some of my schoolmates to play tanki, they will be confused, and they will find mouse control good, as they play games this way... (see it at school) maybe good for parkour, you can drive with turret backwards, while looking where you go :)

Tankers!

Today we invite you to take part in the first open testing of the mouse controls!

Two control options are available for testing:

  • In windowed mode, the camera follows the hull, while the aiming cursor on the screen determines the direction you are firing at. To switch to the usual mouse cursor for using the menu, press and hold the right mouse button.
  • In fullscreen mode, the turret turns in the direction where the camera is pointed, which is closer to the traditional keyboard controls. Holding the right mouse button blocks the turret’s turning and gives you an ability to look around without turning the turret. To switch to the usual mouse cursor for using the menu, press and hold the TAB key.

In both modes, you shoot by clicking the left mouse button, and use the mouse wheel to adjust the camera view. You can only turn your turret left and right in the new control modes. Vertical aim has remained automatic.

Switching between mouse and keyboards controls is possible anytime, with a right click or pressing turret control keys on a keyboard.

You can join the open testing here. Make sure you return to this thread to share your impressions!

Mouse controls aren't that fun in windowed mode...

-The aiming cursor is misleading as it really only affects the x axis, not the y axis

-The camera is solely reliant on tank position, jeopardizing non-defensive players or non-heavy hull users

Mouse controls aren't as fun in full screen mode...

-If you have a mouse that goes over 2k DPI your mouse will be faster than the turret leading to dysfunction between the mouse and the turret.

-The camera is turret reliant, but this TPS has a physics engine so movement is far more important...
