Profanity - put an end to it.

As we all know, Tanki has 'censored' certain 4-letter words in the battle chat, when they are typed, they show up as stars, but tankers are finding a way around this.

They just post the same words, but with spaces in between.

This is getting increasingly irritating, and I cannot concentrate while fighting.

My suggestion is that Tanki should create a system in which the chat recognizes the letters of the censored words, and no matter how many spaces are there in between them, if those letters are typed consecutively then  it will be displayed as stars.

Please consider my suggestion to make Tanki a better game for all ages.

How would you propose making a system that would recognize ALL instances pf the f-word, n-word, c-word, yada yada yada, among ALL of it possible variations (spaces, whatnot)? I'm not even a programmer and it hurts my head to think about the logstical nightmare of implementing that king of "omnipotent" system.

 

Maybe things will be easier to develop in the Unity version, who knows. But I doubt a complete overhaul of the profanity system would come before then. Just screenshot the violations and send it to a moderator, or post it to the violater's forum. Or just suck it up, tanker!

i dont think it can be stopped because the restricted words can be typed in wrong spelling too, so all you can do is report in the chat violators section if you find someone insulting or abusing.

Battle chat is already too small to cause any distractions. However if it disturbs you, you can do following two things:

1. If you are alone without friends and battle chat is not much use to you, you can disable it from settings.

2. If some particulars players are annoying you, you can block them or take a screenshot and report them in Chat violators section.

Anyway, your best option so far is to block the people that are irritating you, or when you are facing the worst, turn off the chat (:

Noo thank you. In the past i have played games that have a system very similar to the one you sugest, and it ruined the chat. New words were added to the list to make the game more child  friendly but in reality it just starred the wrong words. I couldnt even say virgin oil, or anything that seemed innapropriate.

It might seem like a good idea, but so many people have different opinions on what is profanity or apropriate language,and it would be starring the wrong words.

I just want to say of a similar event that had to do with this in two different games.

One completely made the game profanity free- but words that sometimes use them (Ex:Glass) were just censored completely so nobody could understand each other.

Another game had ignored the requests of other players to fix the use of profanity and instead just put a ban on the account for probably weeks minimum time for a single spam, curse, etc without any rights to say why they did it, even by accident.

 

My point is that you should probably ignore them and like the others above said: just report those chat violators because they're not worth your time fighting back at them verbally.

Or just turn off chat in settings to remove the distraction.  :) But a system that removes ALL possibilities of profane langueage showing up without affecting normal words is nearly impossible to develop. In Russian it's already impossible to type words like "skyscrapers", "usage", "cover me" without them being covered with starts because a profane word is in the middle of those perfectly acceptable words. No need to make the system more strict.
