Show all players' fps and ping

The game seems to be seeing an increase of hackers lately and the way we currently tackle these cheats is to record the violation and then submit it to the game violation section of the forum.  Sometimes cheats evade punishment because the evidence is insufficient or explained away as possible lag.

Therefore, to help stop players hiding behind the lag excuse, extra information is needed about the player in question and this can be presented on the scoreboard when you press tab. It will show every player's frames per second and ping. The value for the ping could be an average over the last number of seconds, 5s for example.

It does not have to be presented on the scoreboard but I think that is preferable to pressing another key.

There might be others who don't want to see this information clutter the scoreboard so a check box option can be added in settings for those who want to view this information.

This suggestion harms only cheats and hackers and is harmless to honest players so if you take exception to this then you are either a hacker or you are someone who likes to let hackers off the hook.

Make this idea a reality and help keep tanki clean and fair for everyone because with this in place, hackers with good connections would not be able to hide behind the lag excuse any longer!

Knowing the fps of others is not important but I think ping should be shown .

It might explain some behaviour if we know that the player is experiencing graphics lag.

The ping has another value and that is to show you if it is worth playing in that battle. If I knew players in the battle were lagging, doesn't matter which side, I'd probably find another battle.

It would also let the laggers know that their connection is poor compared to the rest and they maybe inclined to do something about it. I'm sure it would incentivise some to get a better setup.

Why shouldn't I prefer to attack laggy player? They will be easier targets.

I doubt that but even if there was then privacy policies can be amended.

So if I have accidentally have bad FPS or PING, I get banned just for an accident?

No.

example, I see something on my screen that looks like a hack but it could also be the server compensating for a player's bad connection. I might be inclined to report this player for cheating. If the ping of this player is bad then the violator mod will be able to dismiss any report I make because he or she will simply say the player was possibly lagging.

This idea actually helps those with bad connections!

Why this is private data, I don't understand it.

Is ping generaly stable during a battle or can it be alter widely?

When it is shown at the score table, will it be the average ping during the battle? Or you just think to have a current ping to estimate the possibiolity of a hacking during certain seconds?

Ping can be good at <20 ms or extremely bad at over 1 second, (we see that as 999). It can be all over the place.

The greater the ping, the more twitches we see in gameplay because the server does not know exactly where a player is due to delayed data.

how will this help to find hackers?

It won't help find them but it will help stop them from hiding behind the lag excuse when they are reported.

Too many hackers and cheats evade punishment because of this lag excuse and if it can be proven that they had a good connection then they are more likely to get a punishment.

Here is an example of a player who in my opinion cheated but is currently evading punishment because lag can't be discounted.

The more tools we have, the cleaner and fairer this game will be. That has to be a good thing right?

  • Anyone who has posted here please edit your post so that you are not quoting the topic post.
  • Just because someone down-voted DOES NOT mean the are a cheater or hacker, it just means they don't like the idea.  <_< So yeah, could you edit that part?

I mean, a system that monitors FPS and Ping for all players is in the game already, and quite useful, but having the info displayed for all players? That might cause even more lag for the not-so-fortunate players who don't have a really good PC. Like me.

Other than that, the idea is valid, and might prove useful for reporting Game Violators.

Well, I know that, that's not what I asked. I asked if, during a battle the ping of one player varies alot. Say, one moment it's a good 40 and another a bad 220 or a worse 350. And in such a case, how can we "read" the final number at the final score?

Or, how can I "prove" someone to be a hacker when his ping varies within seconds...

I'm not sure if the server can accurately record ping data down to the current second- while it currently does a pretty good job, I've noticed that there's a delay before it starts reading lag spikes. Because of that, if someone took a screenshot of a player doing something strange before the server updated the ping, there could be false positives.
