Reduce power of garage supplies

Recommended Posts

I think that far too much is made of skill.  People may or may not, adapt their play depending on, what supplies they have in the magazines or are armed with at any particular time.  It even depends on what sort of player one is up against and what kit they might have.  We have all this skill or lack of skill debate, when players are discussing the virtues and vices of various hulls or turrets.  Sure some players appear to posses more skill than others, but what kit do they have, how has it been modified with MU?  Their are plenty of non turret turners, who manage perfectly well, by adapting their stile of play, when up against turret twiddlers.  Many ex Shaft players for example, learnt a style that did not involve turning the turret in a dynamic style of play.  Some of them became more familiar with using different keys than say a Rail Gun user might use. After all, they actually have to point their gun exactly on target.  They do not have the Tanki programs auto correcting horizontal and vertical discrepancies  Learning a new style of play after having a different style of play ingrained, might be more difficult to overcome than it might first appear.

Well this is a first, a drugger's fanboy: http://ratings.tankionline.com/en/user/servant_of_M4DGENIUS/

I don't know if any of you remember our good pal M4DGENIUS from around fifty pages back, but apparently fighting people of equal skill is too hard.

I was on an unamed alt attempting to enjoy a good Rio CTF, and found him in the middle of it.

He apparently remembered me, because he took off in a snap.

Tanki is going down unfortunately.  It promotes inequality to a large extent, in many aspects of the game.  It is loosing players.  Of course they will say that they have x million on the books but few servers are full at any time of the day.   Even at peak times only a few servers are almost loaded in the English side most are empty or only have very little life.   On the RU side it is better but only a few are full to limit and a few more half full.  I left for just over one year and I could easily go again.  Yet I spend real money.  Over that time away I had lot crystals just sitting there.  It was only my daughter badgering me to restart brought me back.

Their is so much cheating, going on it very bad.  Many games are so unequal.  It is no fun for the side that struggles.  I am not bothered about drugs one way or another, it is the rest of the game that is poor.

Supplies do cause a major imbalance in the game, however after doing research i can understand why the developers are so reluctant to changing them, it would mean reworking the mechanisms of the game completely, and they only did a small proportion of that when introducing smart cooldowns, which was just as worse as the previous system

Not completely but, yes, they would have to change the focal point of battles.

Unfortunately, they didn't engage a dialog with us, they restricted their part of (minimal) communication to sample-thoughts like "how many shots would you need to kill a tank but for the supplies?" and such.

My opinion is that they were just unwilling to give up such a good (seemingly) source of income like supplies kits.

The only thing they had to do is increase the cool down period of supplies and nerf by 1/3 or 1/2 the repair kit. So that the whole drugging time in battle would just lessen.

Or add a failure factor for supplies used together (that would need some more programming than the previous measure) so that drugging gives a temporary advantage followed by a disadvantage for the user.

Anyway. The point is, they did not want to talk to us and they handled the issue in secret, denying to us the acknowledgment of being right in that the battles have become one-sided / unbalanced.

Oh but don't you see?

Their way is right because they have mods and admins to enforce it (So long as they're paid to keep their trap shut.).

Clearly that makes it all correct and moral.

That is valid only for the forum. In RL players like or don't the game and more than few have voted with their feet.

A major aspect of players' misunderstanding and being unable to see the same picture in regard to supplies (drugging) is that they do not realize the huge difference in power that Tanki allows to be in standard battles.

You know I've tried to suggest ways in the past to try and get tanki devs to reduce the advantage druggers have over non-druggers to the point where Hazel lost the plot and left the forum. Nothing meaningful will ever be done to redress the balance in terms of power or crystal reward.

So the choices are,

  • suggest something fair to players and tanki's economic return and get them to run with it
  • buy a pro battle pass and join non-supply battles
  • join supplies battles when you have enough to use at least 1 per minute
  • buy 1500 supplies kit and drug

(the rewards of drugging should buy you another 1500 supplies kit

    ie, self sustaining kits)

  • spend some real money
  • play with players who drug (who don't mind you being there)

My drugging rate has gone up massively since Christmas. I encounter that many cheats, mults and saboteurs routinely, (today was Brubrook), that I now tend to adopt a no-mercy, take no prisoners attitude and drug until my side is winning comfortably, at which time I lay off.  But sadly, we couldn't win today partly because of a saboteur who was nowhere to be seen. He kept leaving and rejoining and when he was in the game he did nothing but ask to be voted off. A non-drugging m0 wasp/isida in holiday paint could have scored more points. We were playing a clan side who drug all the time and if a non-drugger cannot see this and leave then they're a mult in my eyes. Needless to say, Brubrook was removed from my friends list today.  Sure, anyone can play any battle because no player here owns tanki but if I thought I couldn't compete and help my side win, I'd leave immediately and find a more appropriate battle. I certainly wouldn't sabotage.

Anyway, I think blaming these players (who are my friends) for trying to win using legal means is wrong. You should blame tanki's framework and their inability to find some happy middle ground.

Oh and btw, don't count mines when doing your calcuations. Ive seen these players drop 100's  in format battles in just a few minutes. I've also seen them use scores of repair kits and double armors when driving over mines.

I very much agree with the general sentiments of the OP.

I recently had the opportunity to use the test server and be a 'Generalisimo' for the first time, with unlimited access to everything, including supplies - I hated it.  Why? Because it doesn't matter if you have the top equipment and paints - you have to drug just to keep up because everyone else drugs non-stop. This is no fun at all and there is nothing stategic about it.

Now I don't play Tanki as much because this style of play is not for me so I'm in no rush to progress any further. It has got nothing to do with whether I spend money on drugs or not - it's just not an enjoyable style of gameplay for me.

When people are using Double Power all the time other people hardly get a chance to spawn, get their bearings and drive their pride and joy a couple of metres before they're dead - where's the fun in that?

"Go join a Pro Battle" I hear some of you cry!  You must be joking!  Not only are there hardly any Pro Battles around, but, just like in the test server, in Pro Battles I rarely see the 'no supplies' option activated - instead I see the 'smart cool downs' turned off so people can drug even more!!!!

Supplies should not be the main focus of this game IMO. Perhaps the default use of supplies should be much more limited and one should join a Pro Battle if one wants to drug alot rather than the other way around.

But then again, if this is the main way that the developers make money, I guess you have get used to drugging a lot more, which is a very different type of game for someone who has made there way up to a certain level without doing that (like me) - or play a different game altogether.

If using supplies is an integral part of the game, then perhaps a lot more free supplies should be made available at Recruit level onwards so people get used to using them as such.

And breathe... :P

i just happenef to look for druggers and i came across this:

My answer.... consider your skills before you comment a thing like this.

Dear AbsoluteZero

I have to admit I made a mistake in my evaluation about you in the past.

You mentioned me (unappropriately as this should be a private matter between you, your two friends and me) so public accuse, public reply. Sorry to others, I will close it here.

First of all, the same second I entered the battle (maybe more than 1 second due to connection, slow PC, servers or whatever else) your dear friend asked me to leave and wrote 4 times "vote Brubook". This is quite a offensive behaviour as I just entered (as I said), and I can prove it. It is true that I refreshed, probably due to server problems, does that make me a mult? That does not allow you or anyone else to call me "mult".
Also "A non-drugging m0 wasp/isida in holiday paint could have scored more points." ... how can I spell to you that "I just entered the battle"? Even if you know that and your phrase is just another free insult!
Was it a clan battle? Use PRO and private and noone will come!

I answered to your dear friend "yes, vote me" because voting me, he had to justify to mods his dumbness, because he had no reasons to say that. But you twisted my words saying that "I admit I am a mult", which, let me tell you, is a really meaningless thing to say.

After that, you and your two best friends started insulting me for no reason ... actually the reason is that you know me and you know that I don't insanely drug like you!
But this is not a valid reason to insult me. You also kept insulting me after the battle in public chat (and got warned for provocation).

You say "don't blame my friends to use drugs because it is legal", same I say: don't insult me if I don't use drugs, as that is legal too.

If you (better) read this post, we blame Tanki for the wrong balance system caused to drugs and "blame" druggers just because they take the "easy way" to win, and IMO that is not fair.

So, thank you for removing me from your friend list, I do appreciate it. Please keep your insults for yourself or your dear friends ... and do never ask me to leave a battle or keep away from you. This is a public place and if you don't want to see me, just go away. This game is not your house and asking someone to leave is arrogant, dumb, unpolite and unappropriate. Do never give orders to me ... I am not your son, sister, mother, relative, employee or whoever related to you, so keep your useless order for your friends.

You consider a drug rate less than 1 per minute a MULT. This is equally dumb!
You say "but if I thought I couldn't compete and help my side win, I'd leave immediately" ... you should replace "compete" with "drug" ... that is what you mean!

Now do something good and avoid me, because next time you insult me I will report you straight away. Same thing for your dear arrogant friends.

In your choices you divide drug battles and pro battles. Actually drug battles are the PRO SCD OFF (you should know that with your experience) and there is another kind of battle ... the normal one, where not necessarily you have to drug. And it is a player choice to drug or not (not to mention the drug problem itself). Drugging at a rate of 1 per minute is excessive IMO, and please respect it.

Now, you accused me publicly, I replied. If you have more to say, do it in private ... or report me for low drugs use, if you feel like!

Sorry to others for these bad lines.

I was just in a Noise CTF (blue) and someone on red had a Thunder-M3(50/50) and let us know about it. M4 vs mix of M1/M2 hulls. And the need to drug DD every time when getting our flag......  <_< Ya. We all left.

.....

Wow... my post did stir the waters.. :D

I won't answer to the stuff I missed in quoting because I, too, like many others, have proposed ways of easing this issue and apart from the suggestion to spend real money  we agree on the other things. As for spending real money, I stopped doing that sometime after SCD was launched. Although the temptation is big, I will not sustain the supplies kits sales that in my opinion is the main tool of enforcing the behavior of drugging.

But I will comment on that "blaming these players" thing.

Why do you say such a thing?

My description was neutral and had an obvious target, which was not that these players misbehave but that Tanki setting allows huge differences in power in a battle, which makes the battle unbearable for the losing part.

[in fact, my comment as a whole could also be used as it is in another topic of mine, http://en.tankiforum.com/index.php?showtopic=277626&hl= so in my honest opinion there is not an intention (or a sign) of insulting these players but to use their stats and efficiency in battle so as to prove that drugging makes big difference bigger]

The only possible, in-direct and very mildly insulting comment of mine was the indication that a player with such xp should know what a one sided battle is, if he cares. Even then, I can't blame a player for not wandering the battles watching for unfair conditions (a.k.a. care)...

I expect you to acknowledge this or prove me wrong if you think I am wrong, and I say that in a well meaning manner.

We have played together, you know how I play. I understand that heavy duty drugging - if applied justly - among veteran Gssimos produce an intense game (one that I don't like to participate in, because it's impossible without purchasing supplies kits and I won't purchase a supplies kit) that interests you. I understand it. But I don't want to be a part of it.

I would really appreciate if you understood that non buyers of supplies want a different kind of battles, where supplies are not spend in dozens, in fact a drops only kinda battle.

We can't make this division ourselves, because there is no way to communicate before the battle start and agree on drugging or not. Even if we could, some guy that would pop in the battle two minutes after the beginning, would be out of the imaginary agreement.

So, Tanki has to do it, maybe in term of formats. A restriction in supplies consumption or something like that.

Last, I do count mines because all these things you write about them is also a power enhance of a player in battle. So why would I leave them out of the equation? Is it the same thing one guy who uses no mine and another who minefields the flag area or covers his run by leaving mines behind? Aren't they unequal in performance because of them?

p.s. the video and Brubook... I consider it a very unfortunate moment and one to make me feel sad, a lot. I have experienced frustration and temporary hate upon drugging players myself and in some occasions I insulted players, only to regret it or chase them afterwards through battles and servers to apologize... Maybe a small break would benefit him and provide a peace of mind, because this drugging issue is poison to all of us.
