If you are going to add this type of personalization to the game, there are better ways to do it. For example, alowing players to customize tanks a bit, like.....adding a shark fin on firebird or wings like special edition hornet we had a while ago.

...why I can't do both?

I do have an interesting solution, an auto complete on a list of commands in the team chat that will automatically post in language of user, and show a red glow on the authors tank to teammates.

help

don't return flag

attack

defense

left

right

center

etc

these will only work if no other text is written, and only in teamchat mode

Exactly this kind of translation would be very great for the top 20 things we need to talk..

Nice idea, but wouldn't it look a little bit like World of Tanks?

Hazel, how about also implement stuff in the chat saying when a player goes on Pause? Because sometimes it's so freakin annoying when some1 in your team pauses and doesn't do anything for you,but you have a bad laptop and you can not take a video to capture the mult?
For example:

Player "Hazel-Rah" has Paused the game
blablabla: icoerjiwuhs
blablabla2: uagcuzg
Player "Hazel-Rah" has been inactive for 1 minute without gaining any score.
blablabla3: qgfrugqf
blablabla4: noobs stop spamming!
Player "Hazel-Rah" has been inactive for 3 minutes without gaining any score.
blablabla: qhifruuhuig I like spam
blablabla2: Ok I'll stop it.
Player "Hazel-Rah" has Paused the game.
Player "Hazel-Rah has been inactive for  5 minutes (3+1+the time to move his tank to reset pause) without gaining any score.
blablabla4: Hazel-Rah mult go away dai mesto hy6
Player "Hazel-Rah" has been inactive for 6 minutes without gaining any score.
blablabla3: screen capture ban mult mod kick u !!! ;-;

This way you can easily capture chat and see if someone is really multing or is just pausing the game for a quick bathroom brake or something xD,so you wouldn't need any video's for lower capable computers, instead you can take a picture of someone being inactive for over 10 minutes by pressing pause button. Spectators(like chatmods) who just joined the game as a result of players using the /vote button will also be able to see this and determine the game and teamplay in an easier way.
What do you think?
Also take a look at my topic XD

well i know its already written somewhere down in your notes, surely, but since i don't see anyone suggested it here already, it'd be good to have 1 such emotankions that'd actually inform people that that sitting tank over there is actually busy in the garage

I also believe if such things are to be made, static objects won't convey the messages as well as moving objects.  Taking the above scenario as an example, instead of having a little logo of a symbol or something indicating the player is busy in his garage, why not have a more conveying animation of a set of gears, like gears.gif (well not exactly that, but you get the gist)  hovering above the tank in a non-obstrusive way.  I believe that's where you heading with this, right ?

To follow up on this idea,

game chat is quite  unobtrusive, familiar, and easy to use

building on that theme would make the most sense.

existing options include team chat, all player chat, chat command, and spectator chat.

spectator chat is the one that  my idea comes from

using the tab, creating a 3rd and 4th option translated chat

Translated chat would work like this,

3rd tab stroke team translate chat

A list of chat post options, 12 or so commands that will be displayed in red

Example:

"Defend" in EN would post as Defend in chat window and red glow would emit from tank that posted command for a few seconds, visible to teammates,

In RU it would post as защищать

In DE it would post as Verteidigen

If you wish to direct post to one player , you can click on player and copy name and paste before clicking on 3rd or 4th tab command, just like you would tab 1st and 2nd chat option.

4th chat option would have a similar list posting in Green

"Defend" in EN would post as Stop in chat window and no glow would emit from tank in this chat option

In RU it would post as стоп

In DE it would post as Stopp

all 12 commands would show in players language in list form, just click on the command you wish to post, and command window closes. anti flood control can be added to stop abuse of system, and abusers can get chat bans.

Damn_Slows idea of showing team mates status of inactive tanks, showing pause or in garage would be useful as well, but each team should only be able to see there own team mates status.

Good idea just i think that the game will be cluttered with them. But im sure your smart enough to have a setting for this :)

There should be something when picking up a supply or taking a gold like your tank lights up for a couple of seconds. There should also be emoticons in chat like there is in the forum but woth a slight tanki twist.

Messaging to 1 player should also be supported and the well suggested idea of messaging between battles and servers. Also please enable translate for the common words like Go, Stop, Wait, Attack, Defend, Help and a few more

The passive emotions? Is this like an icon over the tank showing when your chatting, SD and changing? If so that would be jolly good :)

Use drugs

It come to my mind that if allies will be able to see icons of supplies popping up from your tank when you using them, they can guess that you might use some support one the matter.

So, if passive icons on using supplies will do good on pop-up, than I have another suggestion: need to make it possible to choose whether or not only allied tanks or enemies also will be able to see pop-ups. Easiest way to do it by connecting the system to battle chat. If your chat is set to your own team only, than any icon you show will only be seen by your teammates.

ummm... how do we going to distinguish 'casual' from 'battle'?

Why differentiate?

Most (all?) causuals need to be visible to own team as well as the enemy.

Battle info is pure team internal.

Make two emoticons over the tank (one causl/public and one team internal for battle coordination).

As each emoticon is activated via another chat-tag the system can know anyways which one is which cathegory, and which of the two emoticons is needed to be updated.

Will you be able to remember which is which in battle? This is better to be kept as simple as possible.
Communication system is made simpler = more people using it.

Besides, we do not need to replace EVERY communication with icons, aren't we? Only most versatile.
For example — 'yes/no' is simple and versatile. 'place mines at' is not.

Though I am looking forward to making as many icon options as possible, basic set should be tight. And versatile! If you want to ask for help you might use 'exclamation mark'+'attack', if you want ask to drug you might use 'question mark'+using any suppliy and so on. Making it possible to add/remove/change basic set of icons is whole another idea.
