it would lagg unless you can disable it in the options section love this idea +1

It's only a picture. I seriously doubt that there will be lag  because of it.  <_>

The picture is not even sent each time. All possible pics are for sure distrubeted in the battle loading phase (or even before).

And during the battle it is just some more bytes tanki sends to your client.. naming which of the pics is to be shown above which tank.

The servers don't even have to make any colision detection or so.

You won't notice effects.

Why not let you use emotions to communicate even if you are banned?

Ask a Community manager or a Chat Administrator and see what they think.

...why I can't do both?

Why cant you enhance the friend system (which was long overdue) into separate private chats or implement the in-game clan system as well? Your developer plans have been known to change left and right. You get a new idea and it gets put in front of something else. If you'd stick to it, maybe I'd think this is fine.

Chat emoticons seems like whole other idea. Besides, I am not really liking it. Making chat into smiley-fest is.. vulgarly i'd say.

How to make it look like people are on board with what you really want. Great going. All the suggestions of what the emoticons should be are not relevant to your intentions....However, some may work for what I suggest; Would be much more useful to have a list of pre-written phrases from a drop down bar, like for some of the more complex things to be conveyed that may take a bit to type.

If you're going to develop an idea for the general playerbase that you aim to cater to, do it more efficiently please.

Scary angry faces all over the battlefield! Still better than anger in the chat.

Emoticon with the zipped mouth for the ones who are banned :p , would be a good idea and funny to watch  :D

But wouldn't it cause anger?

Something like this might do the job

Curse-swear-curse-mouth-smiley-emoticon-

Though... personally I would avoid using any faces.

i would be laughing if somebody use this emotion at me :P :D

Don't you feel the pain when they destroy your tank under gold box, lol? :D

Don't you feel the pain of other tanks when you do the same to them?

Tanki is different in this regard. This is like cartoon about tanks. Everybody likes believable cartoons.

I'm not sure if I like this idea.

There are interesting aspects in it but also aspects I don't like.

My major concern is that Tanki might turn into a cartoonish game. I wouldn't like something like that.

I don't say it's not good, I only say it's not appreciated by me.

What I find interesting is the possibility to exchange simple info about the battle with teammates. For example I often wanted to inform my team that an enemy has slipped from behind but I can't waste time to write it in the chat box as every second counts.

But seeing a cartoonish face above the tanks around me... no thanks.

Maybe that's so because to me, Tanki is more of a drone combat than a super Mario game... but that's personal, I don't expect 14 yo players agree with me..

So, I ask you Hazel-Rah, do you want* to turn Tanki more cartoonish?

*think / wonder etc..

Tanki was never supposed to be fully realistic. Look at Ricochet. Heck there are tanks flying around at a hundred miles per hour, how many tanks do you see doing that?

And why should cartoonism be a bad thing? Do we really want to be World of Tanks in that regard?

---

Back to the topic at hand, it would be nice if we just had some simple icons such as this:

Waving hand - hello/goodbye (unless you want to implement hello/goodbye for every single language!)

Exclamation mark - help! Alert!

Question mark - what's going on? What is this?

A plus sign - either means agreement or heal me!

An X - stop! do NOT do this! Stay away from here!

Heart - thank you! Or even I like you!

Hourglass - busy, AFK, or still loading perhaps.

Happy face - exactly what it is. Celebrate! Give thanks! Joy!

Sad face - exactly what it is. Lament your losses!

Angry face - exactly what it is! That guy just won't leave you alone.

Two swords crossed - attack! Let's fight!

Shield - defend the fort! Hold fast!

And when the tanker is in garage changing equipment, I saw a suggestion earlier that would be perfect; have symbol of gears turning over the tank who is in garage. That way we know if he is either truly AFK or just changing equipment.

That was a rhetorical question  <_<

So the intention of the question was to mislead your following. (rhetorical question written declaratively, not requiring a question mark)

This has to do with my suggestion how exactly?*

*warning, rhetorical question also!*

The intentions of this was to scuff off my comment on how the suggestion could be put in front of other implementations that could be made for the game. (Statement that is so blatantly obvious)

Don't be so facetious with the comments of both positive and negative. Also cut down on the rhetorical questions; bear in mind the avatar you posses. Trust me, I wouldn't be so condescending if I didn't care about this game or invested in it...

I didn't imply to make Tanki WoT realistic. Actually, I like it to be unrealistc. But unrealistic does not neccesarily means cartoonish.

There is a difference between Super Mario and Judge Dredd... both are unrealistic, but I vote for Dredd.

That's why I said that it's not bad but I personaly prefer not cartoonish. Maybe it's a matter of age. My age is not very fond of mickey mouse battles...

Should I suggest only what should be "put in front of other implementations" or can I do what everybody else does around here? My suggestions and my actual tasks are two different stories.

And don't judge me for my rhetorical questions if you want an alive man speaking to you. RU forum did this too many times and now they no longer got a developer speaking to them.

Hmmm... looks kinda the same to what I have in my notes. Like... I wrote down the same actions but in different order

Good, we might have a conclusion around here.

The idea would be great, but it'd probably completely eradicate the small feeling of "realism" Tanki had, and reduce the sense of warfare.

Looks like Tanki's going Club Penguin

How come Hideo Kojima using it in Metal Gear and the sense of warfare is still present in his games?

um is this for the lobby chat only or in battle chat?

Battle chat. Although it would be nice to have smileys added to the lobby chat, at least in the selection we have on the forum.

@Hazel

I think I have to agree with Kevred on what he said about realism. Tanki Online may not have the most realistic physics and graphics and you never see anyone control your tank, but to be honest, it feels more like you are controlling your tank remotely with some sort of flying camera following it around, rather than actually being the tank.

Anyway, as long as this addition won't interfere too much with the view of the battle, I would love to see this added. However, instead of symbols and icons I would rather have pre-set phrases and smiley faces shown above the tank. If preset "bubble" phrases aren't something you want to add, then please add floating chat messages above the tank. I can't think of any possible disadvantage of having this:

  • If you are talking to someone right next to you you don't have to bother putting their name in chat as they will see your message above your tank and will know that you are addressing them
  • The text bubble will be shown for about 3 seconds, allowing short messages to be read.
  • There will be only one line of text above the tank. If the message is longer, it will be cut short with an ellipsis and the full version can be read in the chat on the bottom-left
  • The text bubbles will be either white for general chat or team colour tor team chat.
  • If this is to be added, communication in battle will become more effective, since the message will be easily seen
  • This supports your concept of "you are the tank", as tanks will actually be talking to one another with speech bubbles.
