Shoot mines

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Many times I have been in battles with crazy mine defense teams, and there are mines everywhere and theres no way around them and the mines are spread out between multiple people not just one so its hard to get rid of the mines. Sometimes the only way is to run over them, only for the team to replace it.

So me and my friend were thinking, what if we were able to shoot the mines to blow them up? I mean, thats like logical in reality, and Tanki is pretty realistic, so why not? I think it would be helpful for teams that are trying to fight other teams with so many mines.

However, shooting the mines is not easy. You would have to shoot the mine directly, not by splash damage like Thunder. (Firebird, Freeze, Isida cannot destroy mines by shooting and Vulcan would have to shoot the mine for a while before destroying it) Every shot can only destroy one mine unless there are other mines extremely close by.

I'm not sure if somebody else has mentioned this before so sorry if there has already been someone who mentioned this, but I think this would be very helpful because I hate seeing a mine sitting there mocking me when i cant do anything about it.

-UPDATE- Everyone is saying that Shaft should be the only turret able to shoot the mines due to the scope feature. I understand what you all are saying, however, Shaft would not be able to see the mines from far away and I know many of you will say it's annoying for Shaft to go up to the mines and scope and shoot it, so then simply don't use Shaft to shoot the mines! Use Thunder or Smoky! Smoky has fast reload anyways so if you miss, you can always try again within two seconds. Also increases popularity of Smoky to use it for clearing mines. (I don't see much Smokies in battles).

DidYouKnowThat says to just "kill the mine layer....not tough at all". Apparently he doesn't realize that there are players ready to replace mines that got blown up. Plus, I doubt you can take out a useful number of mines before you die. Even if you use Mammoth.

deadtoyou says-

Mines are supposed to be hidden. In order for long-range guns to shoot them, they have to be seen. Now, that means increasing the detection radius, making mines pretty much useless for the person using them.

Now, here is my proposal: When you detect a mine, you are automatically able to "see" that mine at a longer distance until either:

  1. It de-spawns due to mine layer being destroyed.
  2. Someone runs over it, meaning no mine to "see" in the first place.  :P
  3. You die.

In team battles, once your teammate sees the mine, you and your other teammates are able to see it until:

  1. It de-spawns due to mine layer being destroyed.
  2. Someone runs over it, meaning no mine to "see" in the first place.  :P
  3. Your teammate who "saw" the mine dies.

Thanks! :)

"Tanki is pretty realistic, so why not?"

Er...NOT.

The mine defending is expensive: to defend with mines, means 50 mine on the map+supplement.

Besides, with this in place, you would have to see the mine to shoot it, and so the Developers have to increase the detection radius immensely to make it work. Sorry, but no.

I'd purposefully run my Hunter over a mine then retreat to a safe position to acquire a health box from near my base or find an Isida. If there's a lot of mines around the enemy base then I guess I'll take a few runs to make a path. Or if I'm low on HP then I'd aim for any enemy mines to clear the way for my supporting teammates.

If I'm going to die then at least I'd cost the enemy something.

I have wished my Thunder's splash damage would also ignite enemy mines in the past. I don't see how any other gun would be able to destroy a mine.

yes, so you only shoot it when you notice it. im not saying that they should increase the detection radius, they should keep it the same, but i hate it when you know there are miens and you cant do anything about them and the mine is just sitting there, mocking you.

The idea is pretty good. I'll be honest, I thought we could do this when I first started playing this game. I wonder what a mod has to say...

I hate it too, but more often than not, someone else takes the hit, then I run in. :)

So if you have Firebird of Freeze, which deals damage in a huge cone-shaped area, you could just enter the base and spray the ground in front of you, destroying all mines instantly. Yet if you have Smoky or Railgun, to kill a mine you would have to do a ridiculously accurate shot using the tilt of your tank. This is too unbalanced between different guns, no way to fix that.

Like the DidYouKnowThat said above - just kill the mine layer.

thats why its not easy and mines will still be useful. however, you can destroy it if you hit it. besides hitting a mine with smoky or railgun isnt even that hard if you do it close up. plus i said firebird freeze and isida cannot destroy mines; read everything.

then shaft is the best option cuz it could use its scope to destroy a mine

Where would you find these mines.

In the enemy base, nearr the flag.

Why does a shafter go to there? Its job isn't taking flag. Its rare...

why all this discussion about shaft? im saying for all turrets. i can best imagine thunder or smoky shooting mines and blowing them up. its not that hard to hit a mine that isnt that tiny. they could also just add auto-aim for hitting mines

It totaly changes mines mission.

So, no. Just shaft can do that, or mines will be totaly different, like a "fake target"

yeah so if mines can act like fake targets, then there will be new strategies instead of the old, boring strategies that you play with every day
