Fair play balancing

Recommended Posts

I know it appears strange that my first post is a suggestion, but even though

I started playing the game only recently, I almost instantly noticed a critical

flaw in the system: game balancing.

The issue begins when a particular team start to gain the upper hand, and some

dissapointed players decide to leave the game, practically dooming the losing

team. I have seen countless matches when 2-3 stranded players desperately

attempt to take on almost a dozen opponents. When those players eventually

lose their patience and leave, there is only one active team left on the battlefield,

and it's doomed to sit idle and wait for the round to end to get the crystal awards.

Yes, someone might join, just to quit almost instantly, because fighting solo against

a flood of opponents is pointless.

Is it possible to provide us an option to switch between teams in the middle of the battle,

but only if we are part of a larger team and we want to switch to the smaller team. That

way we could switch to play along with our friends rather than against them, and we

could manually balance the team counts so the game would be more fair to play.

If this option already exists, but is limited only to pro matches, it should be included

into casual matches as well. Being able to switch teams and balance the game is

something we all should be able to do, casuals included, not only the premium class.

As a part of the larger team, this would be nice to have. But yeah, makes no sense to have the option for the smaller team or when the teams are balanced. :)

this has been suggested b4 & its very unlikely that someone would just join the losing team bcuz no one is in that team

When there is no one on the other team, the round should end immediately, at least that's my oppinion.

But back to the subject, the option to switch between teams is a common game feature, there are only

a handful of multiplayer games that don't have that option, and Tanki Online is one of them. Personally

I would switch to the other team when they are several players down, one player CAN and usually DOES

make a difference, especially when it's a team player...

It's a good idea, but there are small details that will stop it from making it to the servers.

Good idea in general.

Probably one of the most notable details is the fact that the losing team is rewarded

less than the winning team, which will definitely deter interest players to switch and

re-balance. Other games that have this option allow players to transfer their personal

score when they switch, so that should also be present here...

By the way, when talking about re-balancing, how come the teams don't re-balance

when the round ends? Yes, doing it in the middle of the battle is maybe finicky, but

there is absolutely NO EXCUSE not to re-balance the teams automatically when the

round ends. At this moment, when the round ends, the tables are turned and the team

colors are switched, but other than that, things remain absolutely the same playerwise...

Also, you have to remember that you are a bit low in rank compared to many other players. As you go higher in rank, these situations may start to disappear slowly. I remember facing the same problem with my lower account but I don't really see this problem being to sever at my current rank.

Probably the main reason why imbalance doesn't appear on higher ranks that often is because high-rank

players are better organized and ussually team up with their clanmates or friends to enter a particular

battle. You can say that high-rank players "are more conscious" than the low-ranked ones, because

players on lower ranks just randomly stumble along from battle to battle hoping for the best.

I consider myself a team player, in every single game I played sofar that had a healing class I have

always specialized in it, Tanki Online is no exception, so I'm always playing Isida+Hornet, unless it's a

chaotic deathmatch, then I dumb myself down to a Mammoth+Vulcan version. Anyway, my point is

that there are some of us that just want to be a part of the greater whole, we don't want to farm victories

and rack points, we just want to have fun alongside somebody, and being able to balance the game out

is part of that fun.

Personally, it's especially fun when I join a particular game and the team I joined is losing, so my healing

capabilities turn the tide and we win the battle... That's probably the strongest example right there, being

able to switch and turn the tide...

I didn't know that since I just recently started playing, but ignorance

is not an excuse, so thanks for letting me know.

Always switching teams? Not always, when it's obvious that the other

team is falling apart there is no point in switching, why bother patching

a hole on a ship that's already half-sunk. But in situations where the other

team appears to be better organized and co-operative than the one I'm

currently in, yes I would switch. I'm a team player, not a hero wannabe,

I derive my satisfaction from helping my team win, and having fun while

I do it. What can I say, I'm a specialist healer... rare breed indeed...

PS EDIT: ... and no, if my team is losing, I wouldn't consider switching

just to gain bonus funds, that's active sabotage any only selfish dimwits

would do such a thing. Not all battles can be won, that's part of the warfare

experience, learn from your victory, but learn even more from your defeat.

No, what I'm saying is that there are people out there who are just downright selfish,

and when their team is losing, they ussually lend a helping hand, sabotage their team

even further and then switch sides to reap the most benefits. That's one of the downsides

of being able to change teams in the middle of the battle, some might see it as a major

issue but for me it's a minor thing.

As much as I hate to admit, the term "team-player" also refers to saboteurs/spies. In

lots of games, especially those that require precisely timed strategies, some players

are required to perform insurgent duties, infiltrating the enemy team under friendly agenda

and helping out their true allies for as long as they can. Personally I despise those players,

but what can you do, it's just a natural thing when it comes to warfare.

I don't know how that option is available, but several times I have actually been killed

by friendly fire while defending, and I'm not talking about accidental shots, I'm talking

about sustained intentional friendly fire. Other than that, there are really no efficient

ways to sabotage the enemy team for one's own benefit, since most of the time, if

a particular team has more active tanks on the battlefield than the other, that team

is the one winning it...

Other than allowing you to completely sabotage your own team by

repeatedly stabbing them in the back... nothing...

remember everything has its pros & cons the advantage of friendly is when  a gold box is about to drop

Great, not only do you get to stab your teammate in the back, but you gain sheer profit for doing

it, just what we need, more encouragement for utter chaos. Personally I use the /vote command

on those occasions, friendly-fire shouldn't exist in my oppinion, unless it's a feature present in

some "Ultra-Hardcore-Mega-Pro-Badass" match type.

Back to subject, balancing teams. Now that I'm actually spending a serious amount of time

playing Tanki Online, I'm starting to populate my friends list, and occasionally I tend to join

into matches they already participate in. Then when we make contact, the next step is to

attempt to fit into the same team, so that forces one of us to re-enter the battle, maybe

once, maybe twice. It's just annoying...

unfortunately the /vote command wont help u at all

like i said this suggestion of yours is not good enough & most of the time you'll see players joining the winning team
