Interview [Issue 33] Community Focus: The Forum Helpers

Today we will be interviewing a couple friendly players who like to help around the forum and game. These players are not members of the staff, but still love to contribute to the community in many ways. Their names are:

Hey, Scythe, how do you do? Thanks for interviewing me.

 

Would you mind telling us a little about who you are? How old are you, and where are you from? Describe yourself in one sentence!

 

I'm 17 years old and I'm from Azerbaijan. Well, in one sentence, I am joker :P

 

So, about how long have you been playing Tanki Online?

I have been actively playing this awesome game for almost three years. I actually started playing it in early times of the game, 2009, I guess, but left after a week....

 

When did you start trying to help in the forum or game? What areas do you like to help in?

I've started trying to help players on December 2nd, 2013. A player named "King_Denas" had his account hacked, and didn't know what to do. It was when I first thought of helping, because I'd just read the FAQ that could help him. So, I guided him, and he thanked me, and I felt really well. Since then, I've been trying to help as much as I can. You know, what's the best side of helping others, when you see your "fruits". I recently saw King_Denas on server chat and we started having a conversation. He thanked me again. When his account was hacked, he was just a lieutenant, but now, he is a Field Marshall.

 

If you could choose one position in the staff, what would it be? 

Hmm...Since consultants don't exist anymore, I'd say Forum Moderator, as I love this community and I am sure some of them love me too.

 

Why do you do what you do? What is your motivation?

 

I just do, there is no reason :P

 

Good answer :P What is your favorite turret/hull/paint combination in the game, and why?

 

Hornet Railgun Prodigy. This is the best combination for me. Hornet is light and fast, Railgun is powerful, and Prodigy has a great protection against the most common turret of the game - Railgun.

 

What is your favorite map, and what do you like about it?

 

Moon Silence forever! Too bad it's not here anymore. But, I will always love it. What I mostly like about it? The map itself!

That must be the new Railgun effect. It suits Railgun perfectly.

 

Describe your real life hobbies.

 

I am a collector. I collect anything I find.

Would you mind telling us a little about who you are? How old are you, and where are you from? Describe yourself in one sentence!

 

Hey S.C.Y.T.H.E,

I'm Paul, if you haven't already noticed :P I live in Ireland at the moment. I'm 16 years of age.I have one perfect sentence to describe my self in one word, I'm very outgoing, Confident and I'm always getting injured. 

 

So, about how long have you been playing Tanki Online?

 

I've played this game for 4 years, I started playing back in 2011, I got to the rank of Marshal, On the day before the re-balance my account was hacked, Unable to get my account back I gave up on the game. Came back in May, Then I found a strange, unfamiliar place called the forum, At first I was clueless on what discussions I could take part in, So I created an account.

 

When did you start trying to help in the forum or game? What areas do you like to help in?

 

For the first few months on the forum, I was just posting in the developers news sub-forum. I was very inactive on the forum most of the time, But I gradually helped out near the end of 2013 (December) I generally help in all aspects I know of.

 

If you could choose one position in the staff, what would it be? 

 

If I was given the choice of which staff position to choose, I would be a Consultant, But now that the position is removed, I would like to be a chat moderator. I do plan on applying towards the future. 

 

 

Awesome. What is your favorite turret/hull/paint combination in the game, and why? What are your favorite maps?

 

My favourite combination is Viking,Thunder and emerald, I love the splash damage on the thunder combined with fast and protective armour, along with emerald to help me with up-close attacks. I personally love silence and sandbox because of the general size.

 

<3 Sandbox. Tell us some of your fondest and most memorable moments in this game.

 

My most memorable moments would be getting my first gold box and joining my first clan, It lasted long enough, I wish I could re-look at the clan page, I miss those good friends that were with me throughout the game.

Over the last six months my favourite update would have been the format updates. 

 

Describe your real-life hobbies.

 

I play three sports, Boxing, Soccer and Gaelic (Irish football)

I started playing about 2 years ago.

 

When did you start trying to help in the forum or game? What areas do you like to help in?

 

I've started helping players in the Forum in 2015 with technical issues. I also help solve problems of the game, I also help people in the game. When helping players who have questions, the main thing I do is use my knowledge to help players solve problems.

 

 

If you could choose one position in the staff, what would it be? 

 

I want to help players in the Forum by becoming a Forum Moderator in the future. 

 

What is your favorite turret/hull/paint combination? What is your favorite map?

 

My personal favorite combo's is (XP). I like the turrets and hulls (Viking,Titan,Ricochet,Smoky). Paints: Rhino - Prodigi  - Zeus - Clay,  I've been using XP since ranked (General). I can't escape from XP!

Maps:  Red alert - Sandbox - silence - Barda. I like playing in the middle battles.

 

Tell us some of your fondest and most memorable moments in the game.

 

Some of my friends, and my clan.   :D

 

Do you have any good friends in tanki?

 (Update 301) (Hornet+Railgun, Wast+Railgun, Hornet/Wasp+Railgun, Parkour) - Support for the most demanded formats. This update is to help players not to sabotage the battle. 

 

Describe your real life hobbies.

 

My hobby is: swimming. I love this hobby in the summer.   :P

Would you mind telling us a little about who you are? How old are you, and where are you from? Describe yourself in one sentence!

 

My name is Joshua Meyer, I just turned 17 in early March, and I am from Minnesota, U.S.A. A member of an awesome community. B)

 

That was an incomplete sentence! You are banned from this interview!! Ok, ok. Nevermind. So, about how long have you been playing Tanki Online?

 

I created my account on Tanki over 3 years ago, before the big refund. I had stopped playing about 2 months before, and when I heard that all Turrets and Hulls were available at my rank, I jumped back in. :P (Wasted a bunch of Moola, but we all learn from mistakes.)

 

When did you start trying to help in the forum or game? What areas do you like to help in?

 

I created my forum account back in October of 2013, but I almost never used it, save for an occasional visit to the Developer's News and Contest Sections. About 5 months ago, I really started to visit the forum more often, once I found the I&S section, Conversation Clubs, and Forum Games. A few weeks ago, I really started to sink my teeth into the chicken forum. I wanted to help out in more ways, so I started to really dive into the Q&A, P&S, General, Game-Play, and Off-Topic Discussion Sections.

 

I frequently get mixed up between chicken and the forum as well. I don't really see the difference. If you could choose a position in the staff, what would it be?

 

Forum Moderator, no question there. :lol: I do plan on applying, but I need to work out some personal stuff and schedule changes before I do. Also, I need to be active for a few more months with good karma. :)

 

Why do you do what you do? What is your motivation?

 

I really love contributing, it is so good to feel gratitude from other players, and to know you helped them, there is no equal to that feeling.   ^_^ It is a reward in itself, addictive, fun, wonderful, and thrilling to see results of your contribution.

 

What is your motivation? About a year ago, I was in a server for 1 hour straight. During that time, I answered questions, solved problems, and helped new players and tankers get used to the game. After I was done, I was addicted to the helper's sensation. ^_^ After that, I knew I wanted to get more involved, so I stuck with the forums. I do go on the server sometimes to answer questions and solve problems, cause I love doing it.

 

What is your favorite turret/hull/paint combination in the game, and why? What is your favorite map?

 

I have several combos that I use frequently depending on the battle, but my all-time favorite has to be Ricochet+Viking+Digital. That combo I have MUed extensively, so my Ricochet can take out a Hornet in 5 shots, and the Railgun Protection helps a lot at my rank. Coupled with Viking's Speed/Armor balance, I have an awesome combo.

My favorite map is currently Noise. I like the separate levels aspect, and the way the map is designed allows my Ricochet to hit areas from below or above that I couldn't normally hit. I loved Silence, but it has lost popularity since then, so I now enjoy several maps: Noise, Opposition, Serpuhov, Wave, Silence, Hill, Polygon, Farm, and Arena.

 

I loved that combination at your rank :wub: . Tell us some of your fondest and most memorable moments in the game.

 

My first two attended organized events are my most memorable, I loved to be part of a team, and I really enjoyed hanging out with awesome people.  :wub: The first one was the rankup of jazz20, and the second was a PhotoShoot with Shedinja, one of the new Candidate Reporters. (we had a sizable group along, which made it all the more fun and interesting)

 

Do you have any good friends in tank? If so, list them.

 

IvanTkilya, (my brother) and alex_is_the_best deserve the credit for this one. I helped Alex rank up to Brigadier early last year, and we've been friends ever since. (Even though he usually doesn't talk to me anymore, he is still on my list because he was my first real Tanki friend.)

 

Over the past six months, pick your favorite update. Which is it, and why?

 

Hard to choose between the Format update and the Hammer update. I think Format wins. I really loved parkour and XP, but someone would always ruin it in some way.......the update has improved my experience exponentially.

 

Describe your real life hobbies.

 

I am a Computer Nerd. 'Nuff said?  :P I also enjoy Hockey, Soccer, Baseball, Basketball, and Swimming. I read a lot of books, which has actually, surprising enough, given me above-college-grade learning in areas like History, Science, Reading, and General Knowledge. (I know that because of testing.)

 

Books? What's a book? *Googles it*. Nevermind. Tell us one unique thing about you that we would not expect.

 

I have never uttered profanity or foul language, a swear word, or a racist comment in my entire life. Surprised enough?  :P

 

Actually, no, based on this interview. Is there anything else that you would like to share?

Hi guys. My real name is Shubh and I am from India. I will be 17 in two months. I am helpful, open to criticism and a nerd. (That's what my real life mates call me) 

 

I'm never called that. Ever. So, about how long have you been playing Tanki Online?

 

I have been playing for almost 2 years now. Actually, I created my first account in late 2011. At that time I used to play many more games and lack of friends in Tanki made me lose my interest quickly. However, I rediscovered this game in 2013 through my brother. I was amazed to see graphic updates and rebalance. I didn't remember the nickname of my old account (Nor do I remember now  :blush:) and created this one. 

 

When did you start trying to help in the game or forum? Which areas do you like to help in?

 

I was never really interested in forum in my early days save the Developers News (I love discounts  :wub:) and Contests. In mid 2014, I ventured into General Section and was easily hooked to Ideas and Suggestions Section. In a month or two, I started going to Problems and Solutions, Off topic discussion and Conversation Clubs. By this time, I had observed how moderators and some players (who help around) deal with problems and violations. I read the whole FAQ section and many pages on the wiki. I saw that I could easily answer most questions and solve most of the technical problems that players faced. I started and answering questions in Q&A, problems and Solutions and guided many people in Off-topic Discussion and do it till date. I have also recently started participating in discussions of 'What to buy? Which is better?'. The only section I never venture into is Cybersports. 

 

If you could choose one position in the staff, what would it be?

 

Forum Moderator. Their main job i.e. to help people matches with my interest. 
I have already applied but I was told that I need to be active for some more time and improve the quality of my discussions. I definitely intend to apply again on the near future. 

 

Why do you do what you do? What is your motivation?

 

The answer is pretty stereotypical (and obvious). None of us players who help around in the forum and game get anything except personal satisfaction. It is not our obligation but interest which leads us to help around. Once I started helping people, I discovered the joy of having achieved something at the end of the day. The gratitude shown by the people who I help adds to pleasure. 

 

What is your favorite turret/hull/paint combination, and why? What is your favorite map? 

 

My favorite hull is M2 Hornet. I use it with M2 isida or M1 thunder. I switch between these turrets according to the map. Storm and In love are best best paints I have right now. But I plan on upgrading to Fracture and M2 railgun and start playing XP battles. All these combinations fit perfectly with my gameplay style of attacking and acting as support to attackers. 

I actually have two favourite maps. Noise and Courage. I like noise because it's multi level terrain suits Thunder, which is one of my favorite turrets. Courage, although not a very famous map, has a huge potential for a dynamic gameplay. I have been playing that map ever since Update 220. It allows me to use a wide range of combos from Viking-Thunder to Hornet-Isida. 

 

Tell us some of your fondest and most memorable moments in the game.

 

 My first memorable moment is my first Gold Box. It was during Farewell to Moon Silence. I didn't know that Gold was dropping and as soon as I jumped (On the bigger ramp, where blue team always gets an advantage) Gold fell and I got it. 

Recently, I joined my first organised event : Photoshoot with Shedinja. I really loved it especially because of Yisroel.Rabin's pseudo Spectator technique.  :) 

 

Do you have any good friends in Tanki?

 

Recently, I have become friends with many members of the community. Few of them are deadtoyou, jazz20, Peace-Keeper-99,Yisroel.Rabin and many more. All of them have been very helpful to me and appreciative of my effort to help the community. 

 

Over the past six months, pick your favorite update. Which is it, and why?

 

I loved the Format Battle update since after the update, it has become impossible to sabotage XP battles. Even though I haven't got the chance to enter one yet, I can say that it is extremely skill demanding and competitive. Hornet-Railgun is also one of my favorite combos and I have been using it ever since I bought M1 Railgun. 

One other update I would like mention is introduction of new kit system. Saying that old kits were OP would be an understatement. The new kits give a fair advantage to those who buy them without making it impossible to beat them. It is now also possible for non-buyers to buy the kits. 

 

Describe your real life hobbies.

 

I like reading. I read just about everything I can lay my hands on. I have a deep interest in Astrophysics and I am on constant lookout for new theories and discoveries. I also have a huge interest in neuroscience and I know a lot about the brain and it's working. I also love psychology and like to work out personality of people who I interact with.

I am also a huge fan of Alien conspiracy theories. (Although I don't call them theories because there is enough proof to believe them). 

 

If you are interested in aliens, I would suggest researching . Nevermind, I never said that and you never read this sentence. Lets continue. Tell us one unique thing about you that we would not expect.

 

I am a shy person. Even though I do not hesitate to help someone in any way I can, in real life, I avoid interacting with people over personal matters. It's mostly because very few people share my interests and I'd rather not bore them with my talks. 

 

Is there anything else you would like to share?

 

This is for all players who like to help other players in forum or in game. When you will start doing so, you might experience some friction. I get PM's on daily basis from players who criticise me of being a 'wannabe mod's and being a low rank noob. Since of them downvote all my posts. I advise you to ignore any such people. Helping people does not require a staff position. You are free to help whoever you want, as long as you do not misguide them. (So if you are in doubt about an answer, simply do not give it). In fact, from what I know, Staff members appreciate efforts by such players who do not receive anything in return. So don't be afraid, and continue helping this awesome community grow in a clean and healthy environment. Good luck.  :)
