Tank Destruction Animation

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am Kibi.

I have had this idea many times while playing on TankiOnline, but never tried to suggest it, so here it goes.

As we know, when a tank is destroyed, it explodes and its "corpse" turns brown, which is kinda cheap death animation (Also you can get fooled from it, if you are far away, thinking that it's alive and shooting at it).

So, what I am suggesting is to create some 'Tank Destruction Animation' so that when you kill someone, it explodes and its parts of the tank spread on the battlefield.

Now you could Create different animations depending on the way the tank it is killed.

For example if the tank is moving fast and gets destroyed, its parts would fly away wider in the direction of the move, or if the tank is shot from below, its parts would be thrown upwards,etc....

And....yes, it probably would decrease FPS on players with bad computers, but it would be cool.

That's it, i don't know what to add more, if You have any Ideas about it, feel free to post.

Thanks for reading.

Nice idea!

Also the parts that scatter around the battlefield sink into the ground?

Yes, but they could stay a lil bit more than the 'dead corpse'

Will the parts on the ground effect other hulls, Like will the tank go through the parts or will they be dragged along with the front of the hull?

The reason it's cheap is because the current Tanki runs on Flash Player, which is outdated and very limited technology. improving the death animation is not only an issue of FPS, but it's most likely simply not worth the effort as it would be difficult and time consuming to make, yet without any significant improvement to the game.

Basically, if the developers were to add this to the game, they would spend many months making the animation and figuring out how to add it without causing lags and crashes, they would make the update and most comments from players would be something like "we had no good updates for many months and all we get is some useless death animation that lowers FPS!". So...yeah.

The Unity version of the game apparently allows many more possibilities for visual effects and game mechanics, so the death animation should be more effective there.

I think the animation at the moment is fine, it's just that the dead corpse is annoying to get past.

The devs may have made the corpse hard to pass on purpose to make you play with a strategy to avoid them?

As the moderator had stated previously, and no I don't think this is plagiarism, that the Unity Edition to Tanki will probably bring it's own form of updated death, and until that time, we should simply be patient and calm, as the Unity Update will be epic on all accounts; and yes this is a run on sentence like almost every one that I have written in my life. Anyways, I am in complete agreement with you; the animation is reasonably tackless, and could use some touching up. But either way, I do believe that the tank doesn't have to explode completely, just lose at least some chunks, as the fuel, spare ammo, other combustibles (Vodka), are not going to completely disintegrate the tank completely. Also, don't even get started on getting the game more realistic, i.e., shot placement=more/less damage, this would make the game both more stressful, and drive away certain crowds of people who would be terrible at that sort of play, but who can still score a good play in Tanki's traditional, "arcade" style of play.
