All of a sudden, I can't steer. Big problem!

Recommended Posts

I don;'t have any idea what happened, but all of a sudden, whenever I touch any of the arrow keys, instead of making a tiny movement, my tank literally spins around, sometimes as much as 45 degrees away from where I was heading.

This makes it exceptionally different to make a fine adjustment to aim, when your tank spins halfway around.

Is there some setting or something I can do to decrease the sensitivity of the adjustment in moving my tank?

This is not the turret movement (ZXC) keys, since I don't use those, it is the arrow keys that make the whole tank move.

The game is not enjoyable at all, when I constantly get killed because I cannot make a fine adjustment to my aim, and the other guy shoots me four or five times while I am swinging wildly all over the place... I have no way to make a screenshot of this, since it happens as a movement, and not a frozen shot. It would have to be a video, and I can't do that.

Something has to be done to fix this, or I won't be able to play.

I've spent lots of money buying supplies and turret updates, and I'd hate to lose all of that. I'd hate for Tanki to lose my future financial support if they don't fix this, but they will if nothing happens.

Thanks for the replies.

Jokersus.cava: I have no idea. I rarely look at that, unless I am moving, and suddenly stop, or the game freezes, or whatever. I just couldn't tell you. However, since the problem has only occurred over the last two or three days, I don't know what difference it would make, since the FPS and Ping would be pretty much the same as they were last week, when this wasn't happening. It happens with all hulls, and all turrets, and all combinations that I have in my garage. I've tried all combinations, and suddenly, over the last day or so, I have lost the ability to fine tune. I can't even drive in a straight line anymore, but instead, I swing wildly back and forth, as the corrections I make are not behaving properly.

Beaku: I don't think so, since the problem has only occurred in the past day or so, and the keyboard functions well in all other programs.

I really wish I knew what was causing this, and why it appeared so suddenly. It's as if someone, somewhere, decided to make the adjustments impossibly sensitive.

Imagine, driving across a battlefield, and suddenly you turn 30, 45, even 60 degrees away from where you were travelling, and when you try to swing back, you go 30, 45, or even 60 degrees past where you wanted to go. It is really making the game totally unplayable, and totally unenjoyable.

Okay, I just went into a game, and the problem is worse than I have ever seen it. My FPS is around 10, and my Ping was around 550.

I don't know what difference it makes, since that seems normal to me, but I had been getting 15-1 kill ratios before this, and now I cant even get 1 kill before I get killed 12 times in one game. Something is way wrong.  I'd like it to be fixed.

This problem happens when you switch to Full screen mode, because the keys don't work properly without certain steps.

When you switch to fullscreen, you will get a notice: tankionline: Allow fullscreen with keyboard controls?

Select "yes" and your keyboard should work properly in fullscreen.

Or just use windowed mode.

Well, I can't really think of a solution to this, but you do need to start using ZXC. Later on, your tank will turn faster, so fine adjustments to aim become impossible with arrow keys. Try using ZXC

Try playing on different browsers or different link such as:

http://www.miniclip.com/games/tanki-online/en/

http://google.tankionline.com/en/

The miniclip one might not work for him. I know it doesn't for me.

When your turning in whatever direction your going just double tap that key and see if your tank stops moving

Yes, that is sometimes the problem. Just some glitch.

That doesn't do anything except make the tank jump even more in that direction.

I don't play in full screen mode. I didn't even know there was such a thing. and I don't know what "Windowed" mode is either. How do I test that?

I dunno how to fix this but if you want to get anywhere in this game I recommend you learn how to use your turret.

There's always one in every group...

I only have one arm. That makes driving, aiming, shooting, and maneuvering very difficult. Compound that by everyone on your team suddenly deciding to bump you as they go by, or worse, shoving you into walls as they go by because you dared to be in their way, and it gets even worse.

You try playing the game with only one hand. Preferably the one that you don't normally write with, and see how far you get. Then, get back to me about using the turret. If I could, I would.

You push F11 to enter Full-Screen mode. There is also a button for it in the top left.

By the way, if you are a Windows user, you know that the program selects the window that you are currently working in. If you are playing Tanki, and your computer somehow de-selects the browser window, the last input made by your keyboard will be repeated until you re-select the browser, and press the key again to stop the repeating loop. If this is the case, find out what is making your computer de-select the browser, and discontinue it. Full-screen mode also helps with this, but only if your mouse pointer is the problem. (clicking outside the window, and if you are using fullscreen, the mouse pointer is inside the window anyway)

Sorry if I am getting a bit technical, I hope I made sense. :)

^ In short, just try and use full screen mode. Do this by either pressing F11 or by clicking a button and top right next to settings. It looks somewhat like [ ]

I  used that "miniclip" site, and it seemed to be a little better... I'm still turning much farther than I want to, but I can manage it a little. Went 21-1 in a game, and it seemed okay. i still can't drive straight because of the overly sensitive turning, but it was a bit better...

And deadtoyou... yes, it was a bit too technical, and I didn't follow it at all. ;)

Well.......try to understand it, or find someone in your family who does. It might just be the solution to your problem. ;)

Also, find out if your mouse and keyboard are hooked up to the same slot.

No, really... I got it, I was just yanking your chain a little.

The mouse and the keyboard are both USB, and can't be hooked up to the same slot, because USB ports aren't that big. ;) No, seriously, they're both 2.0 and are on different parts of the board.

This still doesn't address that everything was just fine a couple of days ago, and I have made no hardware changes since then. I think it has something to do with settings in the game, since it's the same ultra-sensitivity in different browsers, (except for that miniclip one, and it was still more sensitive) so if I have made no changes, then it must be the game.

There's a guy  here at the VA who knows more about computers than I do, and I'm going to have him take a look. I might just get him hooked on it too...

Alright then........have you tried going into a program like Microsoft word and testing the keyboard to see if it's really stuck? Cause my dad, (who is a computer expert and owned a computer help company once,) still thinks that is your problem.....

If you or your family has another keyboard, plug that in and see if that one works. If it doesn't, then the problem is with your PC or browser.

(By the way, my dad says that your motherboard might have a glitch where your keyboard and mouse commands would be interconnected and interfering with one another.)

Well, your dad's wrong, I hate to say...

I tried it on someone else's computer, with a different keyboard, and its still doing exactly the same thing.

So, if its' a different computer, and a different keyboard, then it cannot be my keyboard, can it?

Here's something that may be useful. Try running your IE as administrator and play using it. To rum it as admin, just right click on the icon and you'll find an option for it there.

Okay, I think that it might be that the problem is still within the game, but I've been playing on the miniclip site, full window, and it seems to be better...

Thanks for all the advice, guys...

Now if I can just get the noobs to stop accussing me of cheating. That usually ends up with them pinning me to buildings, shooting me with rails to tip me over, pushing me off cliffs, and shoving me into enemy fire...

I am going to have to figure out  how to do video capture, and start posting these things. I'm getting sick of the harassment.
