Why do "pros" always drive backwards?

 Share

Recommended Posts

I use dictator. If ı drive backwards, hits make me knockaim hardly and I

drive easily because the hull turns around a point which is near to back.

However, I drive with both ways. Easier than turning..

I don't know others, but this gives a lot of advantage for Dictator.

For mammoth, I can't wait for turning. Already the same speed...

1. less expose when shoot behind wall

2. less impact effect from back

3. easier to climb up other tank from back

4. less flip when landing with back. especially wasp

Almost all hulls have rear-mounted turrets. This means that the turret is mounted in the back of the tank rather than the front. So when popping out to shoot, you expose less of yourself if you drive backwards. Of course, Mammoth is not rear mounted. Also, some tanks are just funner to drive backwards.

Perfectly explained.

This is the main reason I drive my Viking backwards quite often; I am less exposed when I pop my Thunder around corners to shoot.

There are only three hulls in the game that have outspoken out-of-the-center mounted turrets.

These are the rear-mounted Wasp and Dictator and the front-mounted Mammoth.

It makes sense to drive forward with the Mammoth and backwards with the Wasp and Dictator.

Reasons for this are given in previous posts.

If possible I will always drive my Wasp backwards in the "Mosquito" with every turret.

And the Wasp IMO is the only hull that turns so fast there is hardly no

need to drive forwards again. Just stay in the Mosquito.

In a way this makes the Wasp an "easy" hull, because you can focus on

constantly driving backwards.

With most other hulls the turrets are quite close to centralized.

When driving for example with the Hornet or Viking I 'm barely aware which way I 'm driving.

It could be "forwards" or "backwards": no idea, it became an automatism.

Naturally I do make turns with Hornet/Viking, but if for example I need to retreat from stronger enemy fire,

I just turn my turret towards that enemy and while shooting I drive away in the opposite direction from

that enemy to a safer distance or cover.

Ofcourse even the hulls with "centralized" turrets still have the turret mounted with a small offset.

So there is a part of the hull that 's a bit more suited for peek-a-boo.

Still IMO it 's not worth it to make time-consuming turns, with other hulls than Wasp and Dictator,

to get into that preferred peek-a-boo position.

Being ready to go immediately into the opposite direction with a completely "directional-independent" turret is.

I've always assumed it helped with stability, when firing rail or being hit as you advance for example, as more of the hull behind you would make flipping harder, especially in a light hull such as wasp.

Wasp has the best turret position when twisting the turret backwards. You are hardly exposed to enemies. Also, driving wasp forward just looks crappy, it is supposed to be driven the other way round resembling a mosquito.

Bah! I find driving backwards very strange... and honestly almost impossible!

When you drive backwards you invert the keys fror forward and backward so... it's not instinctive!

ALL games I play use the standard forward and backward keys (the arrows) and if I go backwards in tanki I have to "think" which key to press in order to move in the desired direction.

This makes me stuck... and an easy target!

Anyway, I think that those "weird" people going backwards against their instinct :) have an advantage in stability when leaning out from edges because there's less risk to fall down!

Can't be bothered to waste a few precious seconds to re-orient myself...
Aside from that, there's not much to it except with special hulls like Wasp, Dictator, and Mammoth where turret position is offset from the center.

Driving backwards with the first two gives some elevation advantage (don't try too much with Dict or they stick next to you and evade shots most of the time); with mammoth it's for getting an edge over people that try to stick next to you to avoid getting hit, or more vertical aiming.

*Still get confused about the forward and backwards on driving mammoth sometimes, keep falling to death/flipping over/stuck <_<

I just find it easier

With Smoky i use the peek-a-boo tactic and while driving backwards it shows less of your tank so less chance of getting hit.

With firebird i can get closer to enemies and deal more damage

Also keys are really close co i find it more comfortable

Well there are times you have your back to the place you are going to,

And its easier to turn the turret and go backwards ;)

As for dictators cause they Glitch-Climb other tanks for golds using their backs :)

+

this is the reason ok

We drive backwards using specific hulls and turrets to give us an advantage when shooting. It's not all about hide and seek methodology. In fact it's more about when driving backwards we are able to gain better control of our turret and whilst rocking we can gain higher/or lower aiming points. This is especially the case for rail gun.

Ignore all the other tripe answers.

1. Because it looks kewl

2. Because you waste valuable time always turning your hull.

3. Because it looks kewl.

4. Many hulls have their turret located at the back of the hull, making driving backwards more convenient for peek-a-boo tactics.

5. Because driving backwards on a Nitro Hornet then turning in circles before shooting an enemy into the air with a well timed Rail shot is pure kewlness.

I have been using smoky for many weeks, and I Have observed that driving backwards exposes less area of tank at corners, making us difficult to be shot at.
