Why do "pros" always drive backwards?

I prefer driving backwards, it looks nicer. Lots of high rankers do it, it's a lot more common than facing forwards. I tried it when I was a low rank and got addicted :D

*Hull will lock for all turrets and not like I said before when your rotating turret (and not just Firebird or Freeze either, though these are the only ones I would hold down continuously while firing and driving..Twins for some of you too) but while trying to turn the hull left while at the same time holding down spacebar...unless your going backwards/forward in reverse.

driving backwards/forward in reverse/back to front has nothing to do with camera angles, if your playing about with your camera angles while your in the thick of the action, your not going to be able to take aim and make hits properly (but again depends on which camera angle you prefer and what turret you use). You only play with your camera angles when you have a window to do so and usually either when your stationary or you are moving but have time and your in the clear and not in the firing line of rival tanks, so you can get a gauge on where they located, and its done quickly. You should know that

My answer to this question is simple.  If you only would drive your tank if it was facing forward, then only 1/4 of the time would you move, on average.  If you drove backwards as well, you can drive 1/2 of the time, of twice as often.  Huge advantage against noob druggers.

As for Hornet, it's just natural, not to turn your hull 180° just to be in fornt. On wasp, there is much less area to hit when coming out of cover before your weapon comes out. Also for stability purposes.

Yes. Easier to go back than turn all around :3

Sorry if this has been said before.

There are two "real performance" reasons for "backwards" fighting style.

As mentioned by others, the short rear overhang provides a tactical sniping advantage.

The second physical advantage is, REVERSE ACCELERATION is almost twice as fast as forward.

This just means you reach top speed quicker, you don't really go faster.

But ANY edge, is a good edge.

But it also looks bad ass!

I think the most ridiculous combo going backwards is Shaft on Wasp.

That's the most ridiculous combo going in ANY direction.  Reminds me of a chihuahua. :D

to add to what bash-o-matic said, another physical advantage to learning to drive backwards:  you can reverse directions much faster than you can stop, turn around and drive back the way you came.  Like for grabbing a flag real quick .... drive forward and grab it, immediately throw it into reverse without turning, and simultaneously hold down z or x to rotate your turret 180' as you are leaving so you can see.

There's 2 important skills at work really.  Driving backwards (which is very much like driving forwards except you have to swap  the up and down arrow keys), and always turning your turret.  I hardly ever use the C key any more, my turret is almost never centered.

This is actually a pretty easy answer. There is no point in turning back around... It only wastes time. If it's faster to go backwards without turning, then going backwards is better. Plus, the hulls have guns closer to one end so they move backwards so they can lead and dodge easier with the shorter side of the hull. (Faster evade around corner) also, u may be asking why they are driving back in terms of turret. This is so players can keep a view on enemy tanks without needing to get shot in the rear during a retreat. (Which is also why players try to remember the dimensions of the map)
