Game spoilers: The inactive

 Share

Recommended Posts

Too often I have joined a battle where several players refuse to participate.  This is evident by the fact their scores are usually very low to zero and remain at such levels for a considerable period of time whilst having multiple deaths registered against them.

In a recent game of Polygon CP, I noticed several such players in the battle I was fighting, so I asked them to participate or leave.  Some were obliging and left the battle freeing up space for others to join, but many refused to leave.  These players continued to offer little in the way of participation other than canon fodder for the opponents.  Where a player joins a team and fails to participate, or offers a low participation rate in the battle, that player is acting contrary to Tanki rules, namely:-

  • 2.1.5. Any acts or omissions aimed at creating obstructions for the team where the User is a member;
  • 2.1.9. Performance of any actions that have a negative influence on the Game development and image;
  • 2.1.10. Other forms of unsporting behaviour that hinder the normal game process ...

Having made it plain to those inactive players by way of the chat function that their actions were intolerable, I used the voting mechanism to invoke a moderator.  After several minutes of waiting for a moderator to either warn or expel the offending players,  the offenders remained in the battle.  The voting mechanism has left me unable to predict the result of a /vote despite an obvious complaint!  Therefore, I have no belief in it's merit and will no longer make use of it.

Far too often I have fought a battle with players that join and refuse to participate except to spoil the fight by begging for gold boxes.   Although I enjoy many of the features of Tank online, if the behaviour of some players is the anticipation of gold boxes dropping, then this aspect of the game needs urgent attention.

I am growing increasingly frustrated by some players actions and also the inactions of Tanki online to combat such behaviour.  Please respond.

Thank you for alerting me to that thread, GurmitSingh.  Such a voting mechanism would be very useful.

that is mult, they did it purposely to help enemy side friends.

I saw it all the time,

the only way to deal with it is to play games with a lot of friends, or join enemy side with few mults

You know what? The Kick 2 system looks great. Hey, it's even got charts and graphs and fancy graphics on its thread.

But they're never going to implement it. Why? Because it's their game, and they'll never admit that someone else could make it better than they could. The devs have even told the creators of that idea, "Yeah, we're probably not going to implement it. If we do, we're not doing it any time soon." (Paraphrase.)

This is not the place to discuss Kick2.  There is a thread for that.

half of the players in the battle should vote if the command is to work

I did not know this.  Cheers.

OK. The Tanki Wiki has this entry:-

  • The complaint highlights the player's nickname only if a sufficient number of people register a complaint. One or two complaints will not be enough.

It could be the case that they were mults but it can't be proven.

Were they purposely doing poorly or was their skill not up-to-par?

A player that has less kill than others will often find themselves the whipping boys of the game but, this is not about skill.  This is about participation.  Maneuvering a tank into a corner and hiding, or standing pat after spawning has nothing to do with skill.

It happens all the time.  They usually fall into two groups.  Mults working with the other team and gold box hunters lurking for a box to drop.  Either way it has been going on for awhile now and it is safe to assume the devs do not care.  Just try to form an organized team or only join winning teams in short matches.

Not all players join a battle for the cause of victory or to participate in a fair gameplay. Such players normally hunt Gold boxes or Crystal boxes(when they existed in the past).

We cannot do anything about that. We cannot force someone to play in a gameplay style we, the players, choose. Every player in Tanki joins a battle, uses his equipment and plays at his own will. If someone wants to defend rather than to attack, he has the right to do so.

However, in some cases 'forcing' is necessary. Sabotage is one of that type of cases. Sabotage is defined as the inaction acted out by a player in YOUR team shooting at you, ramming, pushing; deliberately trying to make the team lose. TO moderators first request such players to get back on track and play fairly, that is of course when /vote command is used. If no one arrives on using the vote commad, players have the right to report such players by recording the screen. All we need is footage solid enough to prove that the saboteur is delibrately doing such activities. Once that is done, just report it in Game Violators section and put the link's video as the topic body. A moderator will review the topic and ban the player for sabotage.

You might be aware that some TO players are actively attempting to work on a solution to this issue. You may then want to ask yourself why they are doing this rather than shrug your shoulders and say "We cannot do anything about that".

I'm not suggesting that TO force anyone to do anything, only that some degree of control needs to be wrestled back from those that abuse the game or flout the rules otherwise they will continue to act with impunity, spoiling the game for others.

So this is the kind of thing I'm up against.

Note the player calling himself "Hell33lleH", the colour of the team he is playing for and what he says in the chat box.  Although I took no part in the conversation, I think it speaks volumes about some players and their attitudes to TO.

Screen shot image of a conversation seen in battle today:-

As you can see, "Hell33lleH" is not interested in playing the game.  Only to spoil it for others.

So you are suggesting to use mults. You are no better then them.

It's a situation that won't get any better unless we condemn such actions in the forum and veto them in the game.

I am not sure how much more strongly we can condemn the actions.  Maybe there will be a votekick or more sophisticated timed kick in unity that they are waiting to roll out.  Until then the best you can reasonably do is to adapt your behavior.  Leave losing battles rather than drive up the battlefund.  Selectively play shorter battles where mults are not economically viable.
