Does /vote still work?

 Share

Recommended Posts

EDITED: 10/18/2015  This topic is for entertainment purposes only. According to Tanki nothing better then /vote can be implemented into this game. Frankly, I think that is just a load of crap. I don't think they consider mults and sabotage a real problem. Don't you think, if they did they would have done something about it by now? So continue reading if you like but remember, you are wasting your time.

How /vote is supposed to work

/vote is a command that you are supposed to type in chat. Example:  /vote canadian_eh   If enough players issue a /vote the battles title, in the battle list, will turn yellow. This is only visible to moderators that are currently logged into the game servers. A moderator that sees that "yellow battle" is supposed to go into that battle and determine why players have issued a /vote.

The problem is, it doesn't work very well because it requires too many players to issue the /vote. Also there are not enough mods to take care of all the battles. The other problem is that the mods do not know why they are even going into a "yellow battle". It could be for some chat violation or it could be for a game play violation. Chat mods look after chat violations but are not required to take care of game violations. Game violator mods are responsible for game play violations like mults, hackers and saboteurs.

This sounds easy but it is very time consuming for the mods. Plus there is the added confusion of "Who is taking care of what and why?" So many times mods will simply ignore these "yellow battles" if they are busy with other things. Meanwhile game play is being ruined for many players. So much so that some have just given up and left Tanki all together.

The developers started out with a good idea but never finished it. Even @Yele has been after the developers to fix it but nothing has ever happened. Kinda makes me wonder why. I think that sometimes the devs get so caught up in adding new supposed cool things they forget to fix and finish the important but less exciting stuff. Everyone wants to have the party but no one ever wants to clean up the mess the next day.

My Option

Here is how it could work. It is a program I wrote called EZ Slash Vote. It work alongside your game and makes it easier to issue a /vote. There are no tricks or hacks, it simply simulates what you can already do with your mouse and keyboard.

Yes I know the word "player" was missing out of the first pop-up. It has been fixed and now reads

"Click on the name of the player you want to report"

I just didn't feel like re-shooting the video.

Sometimes, simple use of this is enough to chase them off. Something like this makes it so much easier and maybe we could actually get players to use it.

I have given a more detailed explanation of what EZ Slash Vote is in this post.

If you would like to see a direct comparison between /vote and EZ Slash Vote, read this post I've made further down in this topic.

If anyone would like a copy of this program to use PM me and I can give you a link.

Also there is another option. Players Moderation - KICK 2.0  It is a system that would allow players to kick mults. etc. from battles. It is based off of scores and your ability to accumulate and maintain a score. In other words "you play you stay" you don't your out. It was designed by @AbsoluteZero with assistance from me.

You can read my interview for Issue 35 of the Tanki Newspaper.  [issue 35] [interview] Is Voting still Effective?

Hi. It is no longer the responsibility of chat mods to come to battles where players use the /vote command for reported hackers, mults, or saboteurs  There is a staff group with accounts named Game_Violators that are responsible to come to those battles. It was decided that chat mods are to focus on chat although some chat mods are members of the Game_Violators group as well.  Yele oversees the Game_Violators group.  Chat mods are still allowed to work /vote reports if they keep up with the ever-changing instructions for handling hackers, mults, and saboteurs.

Thanks for that information. Direct @Yele to this if you prefer.

I think it definitely needs some work, for one, it's rare we get enough votes, and when we do, the mult

has already done whatever he was up to so there's not much for the mod to see anyways.

Whenever I do it, it says the command never works :/

I guess you are doing something wrong, write like this /vote Nickname_of_offender. and then you will see a message, "your complaint has been sent".

So many players don't know how to use the "/vote" command properly, I've found.

In a 8 vs 8 at Polygon, 4 players would have to vote a saboteur, and it is rare that that many players know how to, and even then, the mult is likely to see the commotion, and start playing or leave. So even if the Moderator/Game_Violator comes, he/she can't do anything. Recording videos of mults is time consuming, and usually pointless as well, as the violator sees the player circling them trying to record a video, and begins playing or leaves.

The only method that I have been 1/4 successful with to get mults to leave, is to use the "bully" technique. Basically, the idea is that you get as many of your teammates as possible to hurl threats at the saboteur and say that they're recording videos and going to report. Sometimes the mult gets scared and runs (Yes!) Other times, he digs in his heels and laughs at us. "Ahaha, go ahead, report me!"

This issue definitely needs to be resolved. The reason why mults don't run when they're threatened with reporting or "/vote", is because they know that it is rare that they will be recorded and reported, and even rarer that a Moderator will come along and ban them. There needs to be some constant danger of ban to scare them a little more. Since we can't obviously employ half the players to become mult-patrollers, we need to use the "fear" tactic. If Game Violator patrollers are actively patrolling the game, and players are aware that they are there, it is less likely that they'll sabotage or perform other violations.

I stopped using vote long time ago! out of many times i used this option mods came only twice and the second time

i remember was when a hacker was so audacious in using his hacks that he was flying around and killing us! so both

teams voted him and he got banned other-than that i gave up on using the vote command.

Tanki does not care about cheaters/violators.

Proof : you have a report button that isn't being monitored properly and a game violators section that requires you to use third party software and cease playing while you try and get a good recording, then of course you can't post what you have to tanki either so go to another third party site to upload your evidence.

Tanki online is a business, they don't care, they only care about profits like any other business. While cheaters/violators are a source of much frustration for players it obviously isn't affecting Tanki's business until it does you can make all the threads you like it is not going to change anything.

There have been many decent threads started by yourself and others to combat the problem but nothing has ever come of it, it is not that they don't know how it is just that they are not bothered.

Is thank you really that hard to say? The immortality cheat has been recently solved, according to the information I've gotten, you will not see any immortality hackers any day from now. And for the love of the god, if they don't care about the violators, they wouldn't make an entire forum section only for the sake of violators, they wouldn't make the "chat mods" and the "FaceBook mods"

Chat mods and facebook mods are to protect against reputational damage also i may be wrong but i am pretty sure operating a game open to children puts a duty of care requirement on Tanki to ensure it is child friendly ie: profanity, anything sexual.

And if this is all a business, they game is awesome by itself, they wouldn't annoy themselves and spend hours and continues hours making updates and sales, new maps in every single event, special paints and flags.

lol, yes that is exactly what a business would do.

I've gotten this information from another player, when the supplies update came up, a developer spend 24 hours without sleeping, that's a full day of consecutive work to make the update as perfect as possible. And I believe less then 15% of the entire game buy crystals actively. How much gain can someone get from that? Not much I believe.

again lol, yes that is the model , that is pretty much how every free to play game works.

and what on Earth are you talking about with your "Third party software"? Is Lightshot really that much of a third party software?

again and again lol, yes that is third party software.

You can directly upload a picture by pressing "PrtSc" on your keyboard and hit the option "Upload" after you choose the wanted area (the violation area) and you'll get a link the guides you to the software's official website with the picture few seconds after. Listen mate, this game is doing it's best to make those people have some fun, please stop complaining and start looking at the bright side of this. This isn't a business.

again and again and again lololololol i am in no way your mate, and providing a link TO A THIRD PARTY site is still THIRD PARTY and does not make it directly it just makes it a link to a THIRD PARTY!!!

Exactly....

Go and find something productive to do. There is obviously a language barrier here that I have no interest in breaching.

I gave my opinion based on my observations and offered proof to support my claim.

you countered with a load of rubbish, i cannot believe you are being serious that you don't know that tanki is a business or that lightshot is a third party. I am not replying to you anymore you are just a troll.

Nice way to go off topic.

  1. This is a business above all else. Every decision made is about the potential of making a profit.
  2. Chat mods are not responsible for come to "yellow" battles. See the post by @GhostRider750
  3. This is about /vote. Not reporting chat violators.
  4. Violators do not directly impact profit, in fact they may actually increase it. So, in my opinion, Tanki may never do anything big about the issue of mults, hacker, and saboteurs.

I'm only offering up an option for those that want to use /vote an easier and more effective way, but I will not make it public if no one is interested in using it. Now if the devs see my demo and decide to add their own version that is great too. All I know is we need something better. This along side KICK2 would be a huge improvement in player satisfaction.
