Astro chemistry

In the night sky, the expanses of space between the stars of the Milky Way appear to be empty. In fact this space is occupied by a very thin gas that is mostly hydrogen and that has mere traces (less than 0.1% by number of atoms) of other elements such as oxygen, carbon, and nitrogen. The gas is also dusty; it contains grains of dust (particulate matter) that, like an interstellar fog, impede one's view of the stars. This gas is not evenly spread in space, but is clumpy. Although on average there is approximately one hydrogen atom for every cubic centimeter of interstellar space, a clump may be one thousand or more times as dense as a comparable volume of average density. Since about 1970 astronomers have been finding that these denser regions contain a great variety of molecules; about 120 different molecular species have been identified in the interstellar medium. A few of them are listed in the accompanying table. The study of these molecules in the Milky Way and in other galaxies is called astrochemistry.

Life could be anywhere. Even on one of the moons of Jupiter. What we are searching for is intelligent life. That is rarer than life, but certainly less rarer than someone getting an XT mission . I don't know why people jump up when a planet with oxygen and water is found.. Every planet cannot have the same history as ours. Maybe, oxygen is poisonous to some life. Maybe, some life survives on methane. Maybe they drink acetone instead of water. Once most people realise this fact, they will know that life can be present on more than 90% of the planets found by us.

Well, of course there could be. I believe it's impossible for there not to be... we're like in 1 planet out of a billion trillion quadrillion others and there has to be life. I know, it's possible for a different alien specie to survive in exactly opposite the conditions humans live in. There's actually a microscopic animal (don't remember it proper name but it's nicknamed 'Water-Bear') which can survive in outer space, without any oxygen or gases and can survive in extreme high and low temperatures in which humans cannot possibly survive yet.

Humans are intelligent, they're the most intelligent specie on this planet. And for us, Earth is the habitable zone. Now we can't just spread rumours that there's life on many planets as we don't know. Life formed on Earth because of some things, and for those things to happen there were particular conditions. The way humans evolved (still only theories on this subject) is the only we we know of life evolving. But what you said is true. We don't know, there might even be life on one of our Solar System's planet...
