Modern art what is it? & your opinions.

Hello yet again ;)

Now there is a lot of debate about exactly what is modern art?

& does it deserve the title of being called modern art?

if so what is MA

for instance Tracey emin`s bed, or Damien hirst`s sheep in Formaldehyde,

some planks of wood hung from a ceiling from catgut?

or how about upturned furniture in a room.

 

No debate about who is right or wrong i just would love your opinions etc.

All I can see monkey is a blank/black image?

 

in other words it is what it is & is the individuals personal interpretation & expression of what ever they perceive

i do have my thoughts as to what passes as actual modern art & how much time the artist has put into the piece

such as a sheet of paper with slits cut into it both above & below & if it`s a case not what you know but who? or the size of your skip with £££ filled to the brim etc.

 

 

However i think you can give a little too much attention to the detail & that distracts you from your own creations if you spend a lot of time complaining about it is art & if it is not.

Pictures only become art when sold though some kind of  art conduit, be it gallery, auction house or privately. In art there are no wrong marks on the paper or canvas, which brings us to the often wheeled out comments:  " I could have done that!" or " My five year old does better!" these are more frequently applied to modern art and contemporary painters, as many people do not yet fully understand the symbolism an artist is portraying, or the back storey to what they have  painted or made. The truth when these comments are used its quite simple , you did not make the painting and your five year old did not draw that.

 

To fully understand what an artist has made, it helps to know a little about art. Modern art  only came into its own after photography was invented as portraits became accessible to the masses at inexpensive prices. Artists had to adapt to carry on making a living, over time this gave rise to what we call modern art.

 

Modern art is great it challenges perceptions just as rap music, is far removed from a classical concerto, both are still music; and so modern art brings a new way of looking at the world or reflections of it. 

 

It takes effort to understand art in any form if you like it great if you don't not to worry.
