[Issue 35] Rem's Garage Analysis - Part 2

Greetings, tankers. Six months ago, I wrote, in full detail, the story of how my career went. It had its twists and turns, no doubt, but I made it through to the end. Now that I'm on the latter end of my journey, I thought it was time I shared the purchases I've made since then, and what I thought of them then, garnished by what I think of them now. I've only ranked up once since Issue 29, which lets you know I rank pretty fast. Let's continue!

The first investment I made since buying Wasp M3, purely for the purpose of having a BP combo (I had witnessed BP being a more effective combination than XP) was the substantial upgrade in Shaft's damage, which was my favourite turret at the time. This was at the sale where speed-ups were free. I bumped it up from 205.0 damage to 249.5 damage. Stock M3 Vikings and Hunters were one-shots at the time, and I was having a field day spawn-killing all the enemies in my scope's sight. Unfortunately, then came the laser scope update. It's true that you could argue it was needed, since constant spawn-killing without Double Power can be seen as overpowered, but the update completely ruined the turret for me. I liked the fact I wasn't exposed in any way - that's what made it fun for me. I had the mindset I could get past this update, since that's what I've done with Freeze over the years - that turret has gone through quite the changes since I've started playing. However, it wasn't to be, and since the update, Shaft has just been collecting dust in my garage. I certainly don't regret spending the crystals on the MUs, because it did make the difference, and that's all I asked for - just that the MUs simply cannot be utilized in the way they once could. I would say that's the one update that actually bothered me, given that Shaft was my all-time favourite - believe it or not, I'm quite indifferent on the rest of the updates that hit this game.

Last year, at the early stages of Marshal, I accumulated a lot of crystals - I was able to buy either Twins M1-M3 or Smoky M1-M3. The aim at the time was to accumulate as many crystals as I could until the sale came along, and once it came, I decided to purchase the former - Twins M1-M3. As said in Part 1 of my Garage Analysis, a couple of people told me I should've purchased M3 Smoky instead, and that after buying Twins M3, it's possible I made the wrong purchase. After buying Smoky M3 at last year's New Year sale, I definitely made the wrong call there. Hats off to you, @Thekillerpenguin and @Chameleos! Smoky M3 was nothing short of amazing. Although the thrill of a critical hit has somewhat deteriorated since my M1 days (where a critical hit would wipe out anything), it was still a great turret to use. However, recent updates have arguably nerfed this turret, such as the changes in balance, and the decrease in impact force. Whilst I agree it's been nerfed, I still believe it's usable to this day, and although not my turret of choice, due to other purchases, I'm a fan of this turret - and a big one too.

As any person who was once in the clan "Awesome Warriors" will tell you, I never really had great paints. This has been a recurring thing throughout my whole career. At the M1 ranks, I was using Lava. At the M2 ranks, I was using Corrosion and Jaguar. At the beginning of the M3 ranks, I was using Digital. Savanna's not so bad, even in the M4 world, but it wasn't exactly the one paint I could rely on. At the New Year sale last year, I rectified this, and purchased the aesthetically pleasing paint that is Emerald. Not only is it a beauty, the protections it provides are pretty sweet. Thunders didn't bother shooting me, as any attempts were fruitless endeavors. With the Thunder's increase in damage, they're even more detrimental than before, which makes this paint even more of a gem than it already is. No regrets, whatsoever.

I thought it was high time for a new hull in my arsenal, and it was always part of my plan anyhow. Around four months ago, I went and purchased Hunter M3. It's the perfect mix of speed and acceleration, and at the time of buying it, it actually fared quite well in pushing, although I never really capitalized on this whilst Hunter could push other hulls. Therefore, it wasn't too detrimental for me when Hunter lost this ability, in recent updates. I purchased a few MUs via doing the "sleep whilst you upgrade" tactic which is exactly what it says on the tin. Before I go to sleep, I purchased the upgrade, and overnight, the upgrade time goes down. By the time I got up in the morning, the upgrade was finished, or had an hour or so left. This was before the increase in medium hulls, which bumped up my Hunter's HP even more. My Viking M3 currently stands at 274.1 HP and my Hunter M3 currently stands at 273.6 HP - I'm sure you know which of the two I'm going to be using.

A micro-upgrades sale came along and I thought my primary turret at the time could do with some MUs in damage. Therefore, I decided to substantially increase the damage my Smoky M3 dealt. This increased the damage dealt by around 7-9 points, which sometimes made the difference between an opponent living or being destroyed. Bearing in mind it set me back around 70,000 crystals, I'd say it was quite an alright way to go about spending the relatively small amount of crystals I had at the time. Although not always noticeable, it was still nicely done. Post the balance update, my Smoky's max damage is 50.1. Sounds good to me!

Although my paint situation was much improved after buying Emerald, it still lacked diversity. Around three months ago, you would typically find me using Smoky, and occasionally Twins. Isida performs well against both these turrets, so I decided it was time to obtain good resistance from it. If I was the type of person that adds MUs to paints, I would have purchased Rock. However, since I don't, I decided to purchase Irbis. It seemed like a "spur of the moment" purchase, given the Isida users had me a lot of time before purchasing this paint, but to my surprise, it actually provided the barrier I needed. It just so happened that the first battle I joined with it equipped had four opposing Isidas, and I was able to take them on. Not to mention, this paint resembles a cat, and cats are simply amazing, so it's got that going for it. Although it was a purchase I most likely wouldn't have made if not for frustration in battles, it ended up serving its purpose. It's a nice paint to have in the back pocket.

A day later, I felt that in order to garnish my new-found diversity in paints, I needed to add another paint to my roster. Therefore, I went and purchased Inferno. @Reeco9 commonly recommended this in some conversations we've had regarding this subject, and I understand why. It provided me with new scope for the smaller maps out there, which are increasing in popularity. Combined with a medium hull, I felt like I had a solid resistance against the dominating turrets in the smaller maps. After buying this paint, I felt like my paint collection was solid. It's not finished, but it's at a good place as-is.

I eventually realized that I needed to have an option between a M3 light hull, a M3 medium hull and a M3 heavy hull. M3 Mammoth's out of the question, both rank-wise and me-actually-wanting-to-purchase-it-wise, but Titan M3 wasn't. For a hull with nearly 400 HP, I've got to say, it's really not that slow. It can take the hits whilst actually being able to move around at a decent pace. I purchased it primarily for the reason of prospering in CPs - I think that this hull will enable me to do just that.

Finally, very recently, during the May Holidays of 2015, I substantially increased the damage my Thunder M3 dealt. It can now deal over 110 damage per shot, which is insane. Due to exams, I haven't really been able to test it out much, and on the day that I did, supplies were unlimited, which doesn't really provide a valid result. However, from what I've gotten from it, the 112,000 crystals spent was worth it.

I'm not sure where exactly I'm going to go, as of yet. I see myself buying Hammer M3 in the future, simply to see what all the fuss is about. When I eventually rank up to Commander, I'll definitely be purchasing Ricochet M3 and Firebird M3.

I hope you've enjoyed my continuation of the latter parts of my adventure - feel free to comment below!

Good job Rem. I agree with all of your hulls and turrets, I'm hopefully getting something worthwhile soon, besides my rail and smoky. I never really did use fire m1 anyways.

Hammer. Get Hammer. It's amazing.

Well, if you can get used to it.

Glad to hear Hunter was good; I'll consider getting it at M2 instead of Viking.
