Mods will properly agree to this, but on the other hand as we all know the cost to start a new server is extremely expensive to have it up running like the ones in brazil, servers also take a lot of space

getting some things straight..

resposibilty

The Mods take care of chat, forum and rule breaches in the game. They have nothing to do with server decisions.

This is - most likely - a decision between engineers/Server admins (technological need, feasibilty, doing), marketing (user satisfaction) and the owners/financials (decision, funding).

renting servers

actually servers today can be rented quite comfortable from datacetners; no matter if you need a virtual server or a dedicated server.

Sure purchasing an own one is cheaper in the long run.. but before you buy you have to make up your mind about the amount of servers and the needed computing power.

So in order to try it out and see the server load over a couple of months rented servers are a good startoff. Then a buying decision can be done.

(calculations based on available player-IP adresses are not usefull for the tanki scenario. My closest server would be germany.. and I never play there)

Server Housing

Even if a server is purchased, it is possible to have it housed by a professional datacenter. Housing costs include power, traffic, ... and maybe some smart-hands that have a physical check from time to time.

likely scenarios

But as long the overall amount of players does not increase, it is more likely that new servers will only be purchased, when the old ones are phased out and have to be replaced. If for an instance 5 russian servers have to be phased out and replaced, it would be an idea to purchase them and use the new ones as asian servers. But as said some testing should be done beforehand, to see if the players respond to that offer.

Also tanki will sooner or later go and start a Unity Version of the game and I am 100% sure that the backend software running on the servers is different from todays server SW. Although this SW (for unity clients) could be placed on the same servers together with todays ServerSW (for Flash clients), I'm pretty sure that in the startphase some special servers will be used for Unity. Simply to react to broken things faster and maybe to have some more logging and tracking feature active in the background to find SW bugs.

Is you ping messed up locally?

You should use a tracert command (google, learn!) to ping the tanki servers (adresses can be found in the forum, when you search for standalone flash player) and compare them to others of your region. Then you will see, that some internet providers are simply better connected then others.

Warning if you share tracert results: the first few lines could contain your IP adress, so mask that before sharing.

^It is not the location but the technology available here in India, that creates lag for players. Technologically, it is backward, and ISPs here do not provide any sort of connection comparable to those in Europe, America or any other 1st World country.

Servers are needed here the most because of the quality of internet connections in India.

I think there already is a server in Asia, not including the Russian Server. I have seen youtube videos where everything is in languages such as chinese and japanese.

Brazil server was probaly the best idea tanki made so far, they should make a server in Lithuania, bad fps and ping there but still good..

You never lived in Asia, you never understand the problem, don't act you know everything unless you actually work as a IT for tanki..And duh, Unity will make ping lower? I don't think so, when you use a Windows computer is it faster than a mac computer with the same spec? Not really..?

Please keep that try to wipe of everything by the argument that I do not live in Asia for yourself. If you feel I do not understand a problem, then better go ahead and

- proove me wrong on the facts I've given (renting, server housing)

- and explain why the scenarios that I think that they are likely (so obviously non facts) lack logic

Can you please quote the part of my text where I wrote Unity will make the ping lower? Or where I wrote about Mac and Win PCs?

I cant find it in _my_ text that you've quoted above your comment.

This answer of yours give me the impression that you interpret more then you actually read. But maybe you've just mixed up my post with another one.

Hey you don't get it, there is still a difference between reading a book about a place and actually going to that place, you see that? And how are you SO sure that Tanki do renting and server housing? Can you list how many Tanki servers are there in the world and where are they exactly located? Who the heck would do that tracert stuff with you? Asking every single player to tracert for you from Antarctica then Asia then North America then Greenland to compare? Awesome.

No, I am not angry. I simply discuss with less emotions and try to keep the space for misinterpretation small.

This discussion started as I replied to a post of you, where you stated that

- mods will agree

- servers are expensive

- server take a lot of space

So all I did was to say

- mods are _likely_ not the ones who decide (my original answer alreday included the word "likely")

- servers _can_ be rented

- even if they are purchased you _can_ make use of server housing to have no space issues

so far for that. I never said that they use it.

And I understand very well the difference in reading or beeing there. Still you did not proove me wrong up to now.

If I would need to compare tracert's, I would ask tanki friends of my region. I bet everyone here with a suitable rank has some friends that live more or less close (same country) and can ask them in in-battle-chat to run a tracert and exchange them per PM.

We deviate from the topic.

I cleaned out some misunderstandings and gave an overview on todays possibitlites to overcome "expensive and spece consuming " servers.

Don't get me wrong, but if you continue

  • to take words of me and quote them out of context (you wrote "Unity will make ping lower? I don't think so, when you use a Windows computer is it faster than a mac computer with the same spec? Not really..?" <- which I never wrote about)
  • state things that I've never said and ask me why I am sure about them (you wrote "And how are you SO sure that Tanki do renting and server housing" <- I never said I think they do this at the moment)

..so if you continue that I will terminate the discussion with you.

The discussion works with written words, and I have the impression that only 50% of what I write seem to be understandable to you.

So I maybe excuse myself for my poor skills in write understandable texts..
